Hi Mick, many thanks for the informative film. In case anyone might be wondering about the type of grease used, specifically in the HS 45 gearbox, I thought I would just add a word. Stihl recommends Stihl Multi lube for the HS 45 gearbox. Not to be confused with the FS grease used on Bruch cutter gearboxes. Different temperature tolerances.
Hi Mick Best video by far i've seen online easy to follow instructions for clueless non professional like myself and have immediately subscribed to your channel.
Hi Mick Great video as usual. I thought it might be worth a mention, both halfs of that blade set are identical so as long as you get them facing each other, there is no top or bottom blade. Its always worth making a mental note whats goes where still.
Same Trimmer as the Mrs! Save this in the library never done one of these before. Surprised the nuts came off so easy. Assume they would be a PITA as the sap and all would act like glue. 🔧🇺🇸🦅🤙🏻
The tap and fuel line was from me Mick Just a thank you for the advice on the Suffolk punch which is running like a dream. I’ll be painting her up and next at this rate 👍 only issue I have is I’ve got to remove the exhaust stub which I know is going to be a mate of a job. 😟may end up drilling it out. As it’s sheared off now anyways
Thank you for this video Mick! I’ve got a HL 100 Long reach hedge trimmer. Please could you tell me is it advisable to always use hedge trimmers on full revs ? in case you are cutting stems that are a little bit thicker than advised. Sometimes when I use mine it jars and on 2 occasions Now I have had to replace the head Because of damaged gearing .
I rented a set years back, the shop had a sheath longer than the blades filled with kerosene, and hung the units in them to keep the blades clean and lubed. I was under the impression there was a clutch to keep the blades from breaking. My old Homelite unit has visited chain link fence, iron posts and big branches, never broke a blade
Nice video pal. Did you see the bit of hedge cutter blade I found by a laurel hedge the other week? They must have hit a 6inch nail on the fence. Enough to upset your day 🤣
Nice one mate, i have the same cutters but only the newer version, always used the stihl grease on them good little peace of machinery compared to the hs85 ones i used to use , for the blades i use gt85 spray instead of wd40 .
I use Kramp resin remover spray for cleaning the blades and bars. Saves no end of time. Also performs better than wd40 and the like for blade lubrication
How's she goin'/ Nice repair on the trimmer. I like the way to check the gearbox and blade parts for any other damage from the incident that caused the blade to break!!! A good thing to do. Thanks for sharing and take care!!!
I got a maruyama hedger trimmer. I changed the blades. Tightened up the bolts and nuts. Blades wouldn’t move. Loosened up the nuts and the blades moved but they all fell off. What do I do.
Thanks for the video. I've got the same trimmer I've just changed my blades going by the video but blades not moving.i turned the cog round with screw driver and they are moving in and out ok. Put plate back on. Still not moving was working fine before hand. Cant work it out 🙈
Take the blades off and start the trimmer with the gearbox open.. make sure the small gear is spinning.. if it is then re fit the blades.. sounds it you have not installed them correctly or have over tighten the bolts on the blades
Mick, i thought you had worked on that machine before! Customer should be very happy with the turn around. Hope Riley Boy and mrs P are doing better. 🇺🇸👍Roger
Was it me or did it sound like clutch bell top end was rattling when you realised the revs... My 45 doesn't sound like that. Good job tho buddy wish I had somebody who could fix my tools that quick, lads near you must be chuffed... Take care

For the FS gearbox Stihl recommends the Stihl Superlub FS.

Ok thanks will try that tomorrow.
I could move the blades by turning the cog so I wouldn't be able to do that would I if to tight .
