Plenty AoE2 AND AoE4 commentary coming up. 😎
First of many AoE4 casts?
Less aoe4 casts honestly
What's going to be the new name of the channel now?
1:00 May you have an amazing learn, T90
@@mobgripchamanrogue to you.. Not to everyone...
The one thing i can tell, that is definitely better at this point, are the soundeffects.
The screaming, yelling, whistle feel pretty fitting to the game.
The amount of screams of pain and suffering during the battles makes me smile
Outside of the battles, I hard disagree. Wood chopping and mining are very satisfying in AOE2. Not to mention all the memorable notification sounds, like when you get attacked.
The scouts screaming at each other makes me laugh every time, it's like they are yelling "FUCK YOU CUUUUUNTS" in their language at each other
The Arabic voices seem to be a literal translation of an English script. They should be improved/changed. AOE 2 (Saracens voices) is better in this regard...
They felt distracting to me tbh, all the yelling
I like the idea of the wing techs. It creates a sense of direction, where with each civ you can be successful in many different builds within it, rather than the one fixed meta for each civ like in aoe2.
AOE2 has different civ strats. Goths play differently from Mongols for instance.
But I would agree that the asymmetrical gameplay is a plus as a former StarCraft 2 player.
The wing thing :) Is only in this civ no other.
This house of wisdom and wing mechanic is only for abassid dynasty (cit feature), but other civs do have options when aging with landmarks, for example
@@davidpereira5969 which I think further proves the point. There's variation within civs - you always have choice of landmarks.
And ALSO there's also lots of asymmetry between civs. House of wisdom is a little different. Chinese can do both landmarks every age. Delhi's tech is free. Fun fun.
@@NathanCassidy721 SC2 is a total bore
Low elo legends is a series about a veteran caster having a bit of fun watching very inexperienced players duke it out.
This.... this is like the reverse? The legend of low elos? A very inexperienced caster watching veteran players match off.
Got to love opining on the meta of the order wings should be built right after pondering whether a player made a huge blunder by not leaving space around the house of wisdom for them xD
Yeah it's funny watching a bunch of AoE4 before and after this vid came out and then coming back to watch Viper and Nili calmly slip into Abbasid meta while T90 laughs about the name of Fresh Foodstuffs without reading its effect.
Especially because all T90 have been doing about AOE IV is complain about it and compare it to AOE II DE
@@warbandplaysAU9178 I guess T90 never took Econ 120.
I haven't played AoE4 but I've been watching gameplay. I like the idea that the civs are a lot more distinct but it seems like there are a lot of visual clarity, control, and UI issues
disagree with visual clarity, I can see the control and UI issues, even though they don't bother me personally at all, but if there is one thing that the game has is visual clarity, specially due to the more cartoony art style, units are very different from each other and its very easy to differenciate between one and the other. Also most upgrades are visible on the units, like man at arms actually changing their swords to maces after the maces upgrade
@@mathdantastav2496 It's very hard to differentiate large groups of units on screen imo
@@coldblowcode honestly I don't see that at all, I always found it very easy to identify.
If you show AOE2 to someone who has never played it before, I think it'll be waaaaay worse, but we got used to it
@@im_mid_af wdym?
@@mathdantastav2496 It's been a fairly common and widespread complaint that visuals are kinda rough. Things don't stand out. Clumps of units, especially, look like a blob of color instead of several individual units.
I don’t think complaining about Hotkeys is unwarranted in a PC GAME.
Even outside of RTS games, customizable hotkeys are pretty mandatory for both practical and comfort reasons. For example, the standard WASD/Mouse setup most games use nowadays are not always comfortable for left-handed gamers. Some adapt some don’t but the option to change it should be available.
I’m not a coder but it doesn’t seem that difficult to do that unless you’re just being lazy about it.
It doesn't matter if your left or right handed there's only one way to use a mouse and keyboard, and this is coming as someone that's left handed

@@matthewlee1678 please don't tell me you have your mouse to the left of your keyboard
@@alexdivision4320 Then you need to talk to more people because I know more than one left-handed gamer that would disagree. People that use the mouse on the LEFT side of the keyboard.
5:34 Haha, have you heard the word "foodstuffs" before? It's totally a real word but now I can only think of it as a super low-effort naming attempt.
Fancy lads snack cakes
Me facepalming when T90 doesn't realize foodstuffs is a common word when talking about anything historical.
There are so many words and things T90's never heard of before. It always amuses me too but we just need to remember that he's a video game caster, not a word... learning... guy.
Me facepalming when you don't know it's a common word when talking about modern day cargo manifests too
Me face palming just for the sake of face palming 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
It's because people overuse the word 'stuff' nowadays, it's formally defined as 'ingredients' or 'constituents'
T90 is a man child.
For the house of wisdom, the 4 columns of icons to the far right are the unique techs you can unlock depending on which wing you build. Liking AoE4! It's different than AoE2, but in my opinion, that is a good thing. Why would we want exactly the same game? Some things I like better, some thing less, and there are some areas I expect them to improve with time. EVERYONE is learning. Once players get the hang of things, I think we'll see a lot more micro, raiding, and unique/clever strategies.
that. Also to add on the micro: it will be different micro! because you can't dodge arrows (which is an AoE2 specific.. no other major strategy game offers that..) doesn't mean no micro. AoE4 seems to be switching towards more micro in army composition and the use of terrain advantage to hide units in wood or behind hill for instance.
perhaps AoE2 could have a new civ with the House of Wisdom buildup.
@@bizzhat That would take away a unique feature of AoE4 though. I'm not sure they'll do that if they want people to buy AoE4.
@@bizzhat the Dutch! Using wisdom is their thing
@@mosybosy9356 I don't know they did build under sea level, no wonder the sea is going up they keep building and removing water which displaces it 🤔
Foodstuffs is a funny word. It sounds so very casual and "i dont know call it foodstuffs"
But its actually a very proper and business oriented word used by corporations to refer to food products
I can understand why some would say it looks like a mobile game. Its because of the simplified Icons and U.I. In AOE2 ever single Icon was a hand drawn or rendered image depicting what your clicking/researching. The whole U.I. windows were different frames for what Civ you were playing etc, etc. Its those little things that gave AoE2 the flavor that we all love. The Icons and U.I. in this looks like something an intern slammed out in 2 weeks. I'm not knocking the game itself but its a draw back for me.
it is also because it literally looks like the aoe mobile game that is currently releasing in china only lol, which also explains the awful keyboard support.
the dock on AOE4 have an influence zone, you can see it by click on the dock , and it will be display as the circle with the dock in the center. Ship placed within the zone will heal
another way to heal ship is by using fishing boat, and right click on the ship that need to heal
Deep sea fish regenerate in AOE4! Salmon forever!!! 🎣
The best thing about this game is the sound. The worst is the rest the game.
Those gold bars over the resources seem stupid. It's generally not a good thing to have resources banked up.
It would be a little more helpful if the gold bars indicated total amount of resources collected. If I wanted to know who had more food in the bank, I could just look at the numbers.
Age 4 is absolutely not as bad as people are making it out to be. People are so obsessive they potentially ruin their own fun. Yes it needs work, but it's not like its a Bethesda launch or something. I've been having great fun with it.
Beware of Stockholm syndrome
@@freedomofspeech2867 dude have you tried the game yet, i have been playing it lot and have not had any bugs so far.
@@tomdon5317 Exactly bugs haven't been an issue, any issue I've had has only been personal preference, like wishing I could zoom out further. But other than quality of life stuff and minor tweaks, it's content updates from here out. I genuinely don't get the hate. Coming from someone that grew up on the first and second games, put probably a thousand hours into the third during a bad time in life, it was my go to. So yeah, really accustom to how Age of Empires goes, it's working as intended for me, at least personally. I really don't get it.
Just to add a little to what I'm saying. Obviously Age of Empires 2 is a better experience. That's not being debated, even the developers said this, that they wanted to introduce their piece of the Age pie, not compete with the past. The fourth game is literally a separate incarnation, just like Age 3 was. If you enjoy Age 3 more than 2, it's because it isn't Age 2. Just like Age 4 isn't 2, it isn't 3. It's definitely an Age of Empires game, and I think it's a good one, but its not the 2nd game, nor the 3rd. It may be a different generation, but that doesn't have to mean it needs to be better, or that it is worse. It's entirely different. It still follows that formula, and for me, has that feel, but naturally it's not going to be the right Age game for everyone, and that's another reason why I love the franchise. As for graphics, that's subjective. They are crisp and clear, whether you enjoy the smooth and simple art style is all perspective, but I don't see "Dated graphics." Better graphics doesn't have to mean prettier rocks, it can be smoother rocks. It's perspective.
Anyway, like I said, I enjoy it, I hope others do too, and don't get hung up on dumb shit.
@@tomdon5317 It doesn't need to have bugs to be bad.
Early Access Age of Empires IV is here. So many lazy areas of the game require work: unit identifiability, arrows and bolts, siege going uphill, buildings always shaded from one direction etc
This seems a little… nitpicky
I would really like to see FATSLOB in AOE4. How about casting his games?
and that guy that solely plays viking mirrors on dark forest maps 😂

In the technical test, I would just spam houses in the influence of the House of Wisdom to get the Golden Ages way faster. Also would have linked buildings outside of the influence with a trail of houses as well
Yea. That seems like the way to go.
The fact that Nili and to a lesser extent Viper weren't doing this shows a shocking lack of understanding of the game. I just played Abbassid for the first time today and I was doing that.
My man Tristan, please do some binge watching of a bunch of AoE4 videos to learn all that new stuff so you can cast awesome matches rightfully as you are able to

aoe4 feels like a dumbed down version of aoe2. wasnt feeling the stress test and not feeling it now. aoe2 DE is still the best rts game out right now
I really get the vibe that they’re trying to make AoE4 way more accessible for casual players. But that definitely dumbs it down and makes it too kiddie
Highly recommend casting TheMista vs MLord, Very impressive gameplay. They have been my favourite matches so far, never a dull moment. Have yet to see less idle time in aoe4.
I watched that video, it was indeed really good!
@ZU Co There's also people playing AoE 4 who've come over from Age of Mythology and even Age of Empires Online!
The Mista is one of the best players of all time from Age of Mythology, probably top 5. Magic is also another one but i don't know if he is playing AOE4 yet. Nakamura is probably the best deathmatch player of all time but he's also a good supremacy player if he wants to be. I think he will be good at this game also.

Cool to see these high level players learning the new game
What I think you need to do in an early dock vs. dock situation as we saw in this game, if both players have less than two ships, you attack the docks. Then all damage that enemy ships would do to you is being repaired.
A bit silly that in such situations you need to target the dock.
T90 reporting Viper for Verbal Abuse was the highlight of the game.
I'm not really sure how to feel about this game yet
I think it can become really solid but it has quite a lot of growing pains still.
It won't live up to AoEII for a long time but I like their approach on designing Civs to be more gameplay distinct.
Will need to way until they release a ton more before it holds a candle though, the current amount are really small
I agree. I think if I can accept that this isn't a remake of AoEII it could grow on me
I would really like to see them make it easier to identify units and terrain easier on the minimap and the game screen itself.
so... more cartoonish?
A 2d or atleast less detail would be nice. The 3d is just icky
Just look at the weapons
I haven't been having any problem with it since I figured that out
I was worried the move to 3D would make the game terrible. It's not great.
@@5astelija75 Yes, but not in the way they went about it. They went with the soft, 'podgy' cartoon look and it makes things unclear.

Simple things that have been a huge inconvenience so far
Couldn’t care less about the colour choice.
For the love of god let me hotkey my mouse buttons!!!! And let me hotkey each building like in aoe2.
Still very happy with the game so far. Just want the hotkey change more than anything.
Feeling like there needs to be a graphics option to disable shadows so that all the buildings and stuff *pop* more. One complaint I have about 4 over 2 is that things blend into the background way more, making it a bit hard to see the actual action for what it is. Either that or just a special shader for terrain specifically.
This gives new meaning to the "Pro Caster" meme 11
Joking aside, it's been funning watching everybody try to learn the new game!
Oh boy, I mean, I love T90's casting but man...
This game just does not look ready, I want to talk about so much but some things that strike me really hard are:
-Distinguishing units on the terrain, particularly around trees feels like I'm straining my eyes to see them.
-I can't differentiate between the slope elevations at all, the only time I know there is a change in height is when the Enormous cliffs smashing up out of my screen and poking me in the eye are on screen.
-What on God's earth are those arrows... stop the madness. They're curving up and down like homing missiles.
- For the love of all that is holy Why when T90 goes into a player's view does it tell him He is under attack or that He is population capped.
I love AoE but man this is not complex stuff... I understand "hey maybe you're just blind" or some variation of that but come on, the spectator stuff is egregious.
Biggest thing for me is 15 20 years later and still a 200 max pop cap.
WTF man?
Thank you for pausing the game and going through all the options! I love to hear the explanations, especially with AoE4 being new
I gotta say this game is definitely a lot more atmospheric than all the other AoEs. Maybe it's the new graphics and terrain but it feels like I'm watching a real life battle occur at a bird's eye view rather than just a bunch of units being micro'd
still feels like age of mythology definitive edition to me lol
its the voices and sound effects 90%
You feel more immersed when you actually hear the warriors scream while fighting
@@LegendKingY2j I'll take it. I'd always take that. Any day. Any time.
The game is waaaaayyy too zoomed in and the interface is horrriddd
After playing aoe2 for 15-20 years and it being a complete distraction to my life I went for two sessions with a hypnotherapist around this time last year and haven't played any games of anything since then. Now, I just periodically watch some high level games of aoe2/aoe4 like this one and that's enough :) Not nearly as fun or exciting but doesn't have the potential for addiction. Keep up the good work T90.
StorM_Country
This latest iteration of AOE is an extremely good deterrent for game addiction itself because it sucks hardcore. The UI and mechanics are worse than the placement of T90 farms. The usability for competitive play crumbles faster than a DauT castle. It's a bloody mess.
Try AOE4 for a month for $1 with the Xbox game pass, try it before you buy it - I wouldn't buy it right now imo, wait for more updates.
I did the same , I’m enjoying it ok. The sound design is awesome but it could definitely use some updates
My only complaint is having 'The Flash' building things.
I was surprised to see how much inspiration from AoE3 up in this game, the AoE2 inspiration was more obvious in their announcements etc. Mixed feelings, I like that AoE3 hasnt been fully ignored but at the same time AoE2 was very clearly the more popular, successful and competitive game. Having neutral landmarks on the map and the way this plays out with the specific role of siege etc, and something about the gameplay that I cant find the right words for gives me more AoE3 than 2 vibes.
Aoe2 is 20 years old, let's let it rest already. It's not gonna be the same. Stop complaining and play
Some units take more population space than 1. There's a lot of neutral food in the form of animals to gather from, so farming is less important. Also farms don't expire. These are very clear inspirations from AoE3. There are fewer civilizations with more unique characteristics. But apart from that? AoE4 seems different than AoE3. There's no home city to take shipments from. There are fewer clear counters in terms of units. AoE4 feels only similar, because the developers killed 2nd age gameplay. It starts out in the 3rd age basically. It's just that defensive structures are too effective in 2nd age. Remember AoC 1.0c balance? You could wall up with 1800 hp walls in no time and kill the opponent with a knight rush. In Aoe4 you just need to wait for an advantage big enough to win in one steamrolling push.
@@CountingStars333 "stop saying what you like about a game, and play a game with things that you and the majority of people hate" just commit unalive dude
@@CountingStars333 I dont understand your argument, I should be celebrating that the game favoured mechanics and gameplay from a 16 year old game (which was a commercial disaster) rather than the more-popular 20 year old game?
There's a reason the RTS game genre has lived in the past for so long, very few RTS games released in the last decade+ have been remotely competitive or fun enough for people to keep playing them. The objective proof of that comes from the player-numbers (this 20 year old game has more players now than any RTS released in the last 5 years), commercial success (see stats on Steam etc) and tournaments with large prize-pools. Aoe4 was wise to look at previous games for inspiration, I'm confused why they took overall gameplay from the least successful one of the franchise.
Tried aoe3 and didnt stick. Not sure how I feel about 4. I think nothing can replace aoe2. That's all I watch and play.
I don't think it will replace aoe2, it will be a separate game alongside aoe2 with a lot of players who are new to rts genre itself.

Welcome to AoE4, where we didn't learn any of the lessons behind the failure of Age of Mythology.
I watched the game with some interest. Maybe it can be good in the future however the trade stuff seems insane and Viper did a 23mn death push after failing hard on water and getting raided. Games will definitely be way shorter than in AoE2 and the gameplay seems way more streamlined as well.
Well, Viper had way more sheep and had fished out his corner, got his Golden Age faster, and Nili invested ~1200 wood and ~550 gold into ships that idled most of the game for a food advantage that needed time to really ramp up
Dude I’ve played big age of empires 2 fan the game is awesome slight changes to game add different difficult but a lot of what made age of empires 2 great still hold strong in this game
I didn't really see it as viper failed on water. I had the feeling he build some ships so his opponent builds like twice as many to counter this and assert dominance. And then gave up on water. Leaving his opponent with more wasted ressources than himself.
The + on buildings means they are in the Influence Aura of a building, for Abba it means once they have enough building in the area they get their golden age bonus
I will need some visual mod for this... Is that best you can zoom out? This game is lacking clear visual separation for me. I have trouble with my eyes and almost everything seems like part of other thingies like I would not be able to tell who is winning, whose buildings are on screen etc. I will probably return this game until some issues like that will be fixed for me. AoE2 is nice and clear for me [even if battles might get messy] this is much worse. Maybe it is something with getting used to game... But I do think it was not designed with much focus on multiplayer. Comparing to other games that have big communities I do not think it will stay for long with any decent part of interest.

The graphics kinda remind me of an updated age of mythology look, I'm excited to be able to try the game out!
I actually like these super high ledges next to the water. There was only 1 small acess that can easily be defended, and viper can put siege up there and shoot at fishing ships, or crossbows, and there is little nili cold do against that since the only real access is right in vipers base.
the house of wisdom seems to extend its range of influence if houses are in range, so you should build everything close together
Nili placed a ton of buildings too far away from the main town
It does that for every building. If a building within its influence also juts a bit beyond the influence, it'll extend the influence out.
Hence why Viper had his houses strung out between his other buildings to connect them all together.
omg, t90 on AOE4 is the best thing ever happened to me this year. I wished so hard that you would do some aoe4 games instead of aoe2 only!!!!
I'm trying to like aoe4, but so far it's not been very fun to watch. Maybe it'll get better the more I learn. I'm also trying to not let homing arrows ruin every viewing experience, but it's pretty damn annoying.
Starcraft 2 is a snorefest to watch as well. It's kinda like all the CGI cape shit movies. They feel weightless and uninteresting.
I think what makes the graphics look a bit cartoony is the color scheme. The blue and red, for instance, looks pastel-ish. The models aren't cartoony, just the colors could be tweaked.
The weapons are waay oversized. The arrows are homing. The keep looks like from a disney movie. Yes the color scheme makes it look cartoonish too. But there are also other factors.
@@godmode8687 Yeah weapons could receive some tweaks and the way they connect during combat could have been better. The color immediately jumps first for me thou.

crossbows are real strong against those lancers
have to upgrade my CPU to play this in the non-blocky form so in the meantime please keep up the commentary so I can watch and learn sir! good stuff!
I think the main reason why there was almost no raiding was because of two things, the map, for the reasons you indicated, and the civs
Basically the Abbasid dynasty isn't the greatest civ for raiding, and they're also a great civ for resisting raids because of the golden age mechanics, so not only was raiding hard because of the map, it was also very inefficient.
They are excellent for raids cause they can make rams without siege tech, Abbasid can take down palisade earlier than any other civ and get into that eco right off the rip. Start wall take down just before you reach Feudal then start pumping camel archers. And if they have no walls, target housing. They will be very strong early civ once people get comfy on the pick.

In regards to the lack of raiding, I suspect it's related to how the game is very new and the macro hasn't been optimised yet. If you want to get an economic advantage, it's currently easier to focus more on optimising what you have than trying to damage the opponent. Once the economy gets more figured out, raiding should become more common.
I've been watching Turin's tournaments and there was tons of effective raiding in them
I swear that alert sound is straight out of Age of Mythology.
this is just like AOE3, it looks a bit clunky
Foodstuffs is a technical term to describe food... stuffs. Generally you'll see it in like cargo manifests
The wolves are "Bitey infantry" 🤣
You can literally customise the controls.
Seeing a lot of hate here. Don’t get me wrong I get it. Guess that kinda comes with trying to please people who have been playing the same game for over 20 years.
well for sure if u as game creator refuse to go by the style that held ur game (AOE2) up for soooo many yrs.. and go in a completly different direction on so many levels... then u will get some stick ^^! (and if u skip out on obvious stuff like mapping hotkeys thats just a faceplam moment right there...xD Surprise.. people like to customise their keys xD!)
I don't like it and am more of an AoE III fan, plus haven't played any AoE games in several years.
It just isn't up to snuff for 2021.
The wolf is "Bitey Infantry" LMAO
The more gameplay I've watched the more I realise that AoE4's art direction seems like a mix between Age of Mythology and Warcraft 3. Both those games have sort of cartoony looks to a degree, and I'm fairly certain it's a readability thing in AoE4.
That said, I think the extra details around buildings look nice, in terms of city management, but they are way too distracting for me. I hope there is an option to turn that stuff off or that there will be, because that is the exact opposite of readability imo.
Honestly, I was getting more Age of Empires 3 vibes from this.
AoM and WC3 have more of a flat color scheme and not as much detail.
As soon as I jumped in I got AoM vibes. Cept units are even harder to tell apart because none are mythological.
Yeah, I’m sure game sense will fix all the visual decorations being muddy in readability. Our understanding will come with time. Let’s not pretend like aoe2 is any easier to jump into w/o any kind of prior knowledge.
4:49 I like the way you say this
The House of wisdom was a very important building in the abbasid period it was also called The Grand Library of baghdad becayse the amount of books it had was just enormously big, the mongols later came and just...burned it down
Docks in AoE3 healed one ship at a time and it wasn't that fast either. Blew my mind as a kid finding out it was a mechanic though, i quite like the idea of a dock serving its other purpose.
Foodstuff is a common word in commerce
Neutral Markets is a really nice idea
AOE 4 is beautiful but these archers man had laser-guided arrows. I play mainly with cav and I get most fun from escaping the arrows because this is what cav does - distracts, strikes quickly and runs away unharmed.
This is hard to follow visually.
AoE 4 doesn't look that good.. I feel AoE 2 still feels better.. Even Age of Mythology was good which should get revived..
Can't they...have an option to turn this into 2d? Honestly, the graphics are hurting my eyes and senses. Apart from that there seems to be more to do in aoe4 that I'm willing to try.
I like the complexity between the civs but the switch to 3D seems to be a terrible move. It didn't work with AoM and AOE3 so why did they think it would work this time?
