7 1/2 years Only!!! What a total injustice. I feel so sorry for Jane. She should have had a say in how long her kidnapper/ rapist recieved. I think he should have gotten life without the possibility of parole. He will get out and do this again. What a stupid sentencing for this monster.

Brave woman. I just searched online but seen nothing since his shortened sentence - far too short. I suppose she could have sued him for civil damages at the time if he owned a home or at the least to seize his car for some monetary damages and perhaps claim his wages once he is out of prison but that would be no comfort.
Disgusting. British justice at its worst. I want to reach out to the victim and say however dreadful you feel time does heal but it's a slow painful procedure that with help she will overcome. Maybe she has to move away, which is another form of punishment but to start afresh it's surely worth it. The aggressor hasn't won, her video alone is enough to make me and I'm sure everyone with even a grain of sensibility want to punch the air and shout "yes" that her testimony allowed him to be caught. She IS the winner because she's had the courage to tell her story, TWICE. To the police so they were able to catch him and prosecute and now to us the viewer.

She even admitted it seemed suspicious he asked for help in lifting a very light bag! Once she was captured she might have used survival tactics but she shouldn't have let it get to that stage.

It is not at all surprising to me that such a lax sentence would be imposed. What does surprise me is the very, very, few instances where victims/family members exact their own retribution.

A man needing actual help, like loading something heavy, will ask another man. They won't ask a woman or child - just remember that fact - if they ask women or children their motives are usually suspect. Children should be taught in schools that adults cannot use the 'help' of a child for anything good.

For an individual who has clearly done this before - no one is that brazen on their first time - to have their sentence reduced is a crime in itself.
It upset me as a survivor that in the closing few minutes it was reiterated that she was wearing ‘normal clothes’. That did not need to be emphasised.

What bothers me the most about the time he received, is when he gets out and does it again, but because he was caught once, he will then kill the next victim. It's tragic and terrifying.
Absolutely disgusting! This was a reward, not a punishment. This guy will go out, angrier than ever, and find many other ways to assault and hurt other women. And then we have hateful men go on tv and social media to disparage, denigrate, mock and insult women, to claim how "women nowadays believe they are oppressed," to deny the very existence of what we saw in this video, to laugh at our fear for ourselves and our daughters and to intentionally provoke our rage and then laugh at it and sadistically enjoy it. This sentence IS an undeniable proof of systemic misogyny and it exposes the fact that women's safety and dignity are almost worthless to the current "justice system." We should start exposing and calling out every single judge who gives these denigratingly laughable "sentences," because one look at the statistics and police reports shows that there are HUNDREDS of similar stories every year. If we don't call this travesty out, no one else will - and nothing will change.
Statistically women receive shorter sentences than men for the same crimes. So the system is actually not misogynistic, it's misandrist. If we're talking factually. Hopefully you (and your daughters) have the same disgust that it treats men (and your sons) so much more harshly than women. Generally speaking.

This was written so well from the survivor's perspective. I had to stop watching after she mentioned the part about scrubbing during her shower, wanting to get the smell off because it reminded me of my own attack and how I was absolutely disgusted by his smell. I've said this is the case in so many cases including murder, child killers, rapist's and convicted pedophiles! The court system seems to favour what they feel is fair on the criminal and not the victims and that's what needs to be change. My heart goes out to the victim and her family who would have suffered watching everything their loved one was put through and not being able to fix it like we feel we need to for the ppl we love. I hope she is healing the best she can.

in the US they must register as sex offenders but you wouldn't know who is one unless you look them up. there is a convicted pedophile across the hall from me. we found out my girlfriend's mechanic was a pedophile - under 5 year old child assaulted. He had a little girl with him once when he brought a wrecker to haul her car. We asked about the child, he said she wasn't his but he broke up with a woman and got the baby. Child was under two years old. When I called probation department, they said he had done his time and it was up to the mother. Never occurred to them that perhaps they should investigate the story and see if his story was true!

I agree with you. Statistics actually state that you are more likely to survive if you don't get in the car/van because the perpetrator will most likely not attack you fully if you try to break free from the first location. Never go to the second location 😢

No wonder crime rate is high. If the punishment does not fit the crime, the whole society will, in a short time, be crime ridden. If the guilty and the criminals are not scared of the consequences of their actions, they'll laugh at the police and the law.

You must NEVER go to the second location. Personally, I'd have screamed and fought for my life, there in the very public car park. The perpetrator is reliant on the victim's silence and cooperation at that time. Therefore the victim has the power. If the victim complies and gets taken to the second location then...who knows? But it's not the best outcome.

There should be a reason why the sentence was commuted to5 years in the appeal. Was it because he was a water bailiff and was useful to society? Was it because he is already old and there were no prior conviction? I wish the documentary was more thorough in their facts because it just leaves the viewer with a lot of questions.
