Well those car have some serious crumble zone in the front. I didn't feel that safe though when I saw an X5 coming in my rear view mirror at 60mph faster than me (in a fifty, after a stop) with no intention of braking. That's when you're happy to have a little bit of juice under the hood. Not sure it would have been the same in my 68hp hatchback.

In my Ex's accident the airbag drove her arm backwards shattering the elbow against the center console lid. 20 years later she still can't completely straighten her arm and too much writing or any other activity that involves wrist movement makes the elbow swell.
"Hi, we are your insurance company. We are here to offer you four dollars for your Z4. We are also notifying you that even though you were not at fault, we are raising your insurance premium. You cost us four dollars, so we have to punish you a lot more than that..." Again, glad you're ok!
that's pretty much it. Is Kansas a no fault state? That's the issue with no fault insurance: it's good that it protects you in the case of an uninsured driver but it's bad because you end up paying higher insurance rates due to other driver's carelessness. Many companies now give you 1 accident before raising your rates. I was hit in the rear end by someone not paying attention so I was paranoid that some other idiot would hit me again and screw me forever.

it's actually a built in fire extinguishing system. Kind of like how oil leaks are "automatic rust prevention systems" Mustie1 did a video on an 80's Olds Cutlass where there was a leak in the front of the engine and the underside was pretty much rust free due to the constant stream of oil. The crossmember, transmounts, frame rails, and body pan under the seats were all in great shape with a nice coating of oil......
I had the same thing happen to our whole family in our Town and Country minivan a year ago January. I barely braked. An old man, who the wrecker said this was the 4th time he's been towed for similar problems, basically just started turning immediately in front of me. We were okay, but I was terrified for my kids and wife. Glad you are okay too.

Bro, a friend of mine in a NC Miata in this part of the world I am in got into a similar accident and was in hospital for 2 months and is having long term medical issues. Thank the old E85 Z4 for saving your life. It could have been way much worse.

You should have tried the top manual override in the trunk. The release is a red loop top left side of the trunk, and the release for the latch is at the top of the console between the seat backs, above the storage compartment. Of course when the top motor quit on our Z4, the release cable siezed up. That's what happens when BMW engineers put the top motor in a place that becomes a nice bathtub for the top motor whenever it rains.
In the center between the the seats in back a panel comes off where you can put the top up manually. I don't know if that help, but thought I would share. Glad you are okay. I owned a 1996 Z3 I got for my high school graduation in 2005 and in 2013 I bought a 2007 Z4. I love these cars. Buy it back from insurance company cheap and buy another Z4 that has rear-end damage or something. Use the two of Z4's to make a working Z4.

I lost control of my car in the snow and hit a guard rail head on, passenger corner at 45MPH in my 2006 BMW 750i. I was amazed how I was able to get out and walk away from the accident just feeling a little sore these older BMW’s really were built to be safe vehicles

It sucks saying goodbye to a cool car. I remember going to a towing lot to clean out my Mazda truck. I was tempted to buy it back from the insurance company but realized I would never fix it. That was the only truck I’ve owned and I still miss it.

I got hit by a 1966 Olds torronado and luckily USAA pulled through and I got all the money I needed for the repairs
