    This guy is the best fighter in the movie. He strikes hard, fast, smart, mixes up his combos, uses kicks intermittently, has great defense, strength, and speed to tie it all together. Only reason JCVD's Dubois won was because of plot.

    The movings from Greek-Roman wrestling were used in this scene.

  • @akokkinakes
    @akokkinakes 2 роки тому +33

    This is a beautifully accurate scene in terms of fighting choreography. The greek fighter ducks under and goes behind and is ready to suplex the mongol fighter. However he grapevines his leg. This move prevents the greek fighter from suplexing him because the mongol's leg will sweep his leg making the mongol guy fall on the greek guy. Then the mongol proceeds in breaking the grip by lowering his level. A lot of details that might get lost because wrestling is not as flashy but in fact there is a lot of movement involved.

      I actually like how you broke that down and it makes sense because what people don't realize is that Greeks are known for their wrestling prowess. And the Mongolian countered all of that as you mentioned he excelled in everything from speed strength agility and fighting IQ and the Greek had him and ready to slam but like you said once he loops his leg around the Greeks he didn't have any option aside from trying to do the suplex anyway and get smashed

      Actually, many Greeks in Northern greece look like that.

    • @chivalrousjack
      @chivalrousjack 3 роки тому +5

      @Hrenml A common misconception. The "Armenian" qualities you refer to actually come from the Turks who occupied Greece for many centuries (who have some indo-european origin; but are also highly descended from southern and eastern sultans, by the time of their occupation of Greece). Although Germanic tribes like the Ostro-Goths intermarried with Greeks: your assertion is incorrect. The Greeks are indo-european in origin. Many of them were comparatively fair featured to begin with. Even withstanding the tendency of mediterranean Europeans to be more prone to olive skin and darker hair than western and northern Europeans: the particular traits to which you refer come from the occupying Turks, in particular the Ottomans who arguably raped and enslaved more humans than any other single empire on earth.

    • @chivalrousjack
      @chivalrousjack 3 роки тому +1

      @Hrenml First: differentiating between "Greeks" and Macedonians is like differentiating between "Germans" and Cimbri. These are all variants of a greater tribe. Second: Yes there are such features in the Balkins. The Rus sailed and traded along the Danube, over a thousand years ago. The slavs they encountered were not so different.

    • @chivalrousjack
      @chivalrousjack 3 роки тому

      @Hrenml Ahh! A misnomer. Don't be cheap. Such attempts to validate yourself by classifying the other individual in the dialogue as from an "inferior" class of education degrade the conversation. I appreciate the your knowledge and passion; but not only do you ignore the infiltration of Arabic genetics into the Turkish line, which is historically unavoidable; but your oversimplification of these other people's is inconsistent with their actual histories. These nations you site all consist of various tribes, all of which migrated and spread out from the same region, during the same period. It doesn't matter where they settled. They're cousins of a greater tribe.

    • @chivalrousjack
      @chivalrousjack 3 роки тому

      @Hrenml You know, the more I read your comments, it really seems like we agree more than not; with the exception of the physical traits of slavs (from where we get the word: "slave", thanks to Turkish invasion of the east), serbs, etc. Also, let's not forget that while Germanic tribes had many campaigns to the east, as was common in many regions, The Rus lived comparatively peaceful, trading, settling, and as I'm sure you know: founding an empire, which eventually became "Russia".
      Though I wouldn't say those descended from Germanic tribes need to justify anything, as Raids were an overwhelmingly common and almost universal practice all throughout history. I still see much evidence that the onslaughts of the Saracens, Ottomans, and other various mohammedic regimes, who invaded numerous countries for 500 years, before Europe finally united, responded, resulting in the reclaiming of much of Frankia(now France), Spain, Italy, and due to "the great schism, not until much later: Hungary and Greece, were the result of many of the physical features you refer to as native features. Has there not been dna testing which proved this? I digress, this has been pleasant, and I don't think we're going to agree on everything. I'm sure there's a lot of validity to your position.
      Cheers.

    When I saw the first time this movie I like it more for the fights. DIverse people with different styles for presentation it was interesting for someone who never know about capoeira or other exotic martial arts, like savate. The movie is not a big deal, the idea is similar with the Bloodsport, that's why JCVD was sued by F. Dux.. Anyway, the fights was nice and I like the greek fighter was a wrestler, mongolian has something similar. In the movie was interesting the french fighter in savate but was a spanish guy with matador moves but fighting like a kickboxer.The turks ...just was the Nutcracker..someone has to do this in every JCVD movies..F. Dux recommended this in early movies, Bloodsport, too
