    My mother used it for 4 months. I suggest if your patient is thin and still moves and reposition self somewhat, use a pair of briefs underwear to help keep the blue wick in place. And when you place the wick, think of a hotdog bun with the hot dog being placed into the bun. Fyi.

    $600.00 for the device, then$200 or more a month for the catheters! Outrageous. I think its terrible they charge this much. And insurance doesn't cover it unless a doctor deems it medically necessary.

    Thanks for the tips. We just got the PureWick for our 92yrs old grandma. It works pretty good. Some leakage as we learn how to use it. We were thinking about washing and reusing it a couple of times to help save on costs.

      Yeah I'm def reusing or at least figuring out how to cover it with products that will replace the one on there. I do home health and so far I got the cost for the system down to 30 bucks! My patient families love me and I love I have been able to help reduce the UTI and infections and rashes associated with diapers

    I put the soiled catheter in a "Delicates & Hand Washable" bag and on delicate cycle I just throw it in through a wash cycle, let it air dry. I do not take them apart so far so good.

    I need this badly. I always have it at my hospitalizations. I'm home now, bedbound, and had to discontinue 2 of my meds that are supposed to cause me to urinate even more, and i had to stop drinking my water i desperately need for my chronic dehydration. I feel absolutely horrible physically now. I just don't have the money for a pur wik. 😢

    I’m a retired RN and having worked on an urology unit I’ve had extensive experience with incontinent patients. I have to say the premise of the PureWick is great. The price however is ridiculous. It’s tubing and a suction canister and it should not need to be that expensive!! Does Medicare pay for this? Most elderly women on Social Security would not be able to afford this! I dare say the condom catheters for male incontinence don’t even come close to the cost of this!! How do you justify this cost???

    I bought this for my mother, who has dementia and has trouble communicating. She can get up from bed at night to urinate between 5 to 20 times in one night. I thought this was a good solution, but the first try has yielded nothing. She is not able to help me in placing the wick, so placement is likely to be the problem. My mother gets easily agitated and I'm thankful she tolerated this trial. I'm afraid she may not allow me to try it again. I had to remove the wick when she complained after about 8 hours. All she was able to say was "Dry." Now having read the reviews, I learn that this product can cause dryness of the skin. I want to learn more before another attempt. But I'm afraid I may have to face the loss of some $600, which I can't afford, since it cannot be returned.

    • @cuppatea4466
      @cuppatea4466 Рік тому +2

      @@LatashaCM good idea. Just make sure that the weight of the blanket doesn’t weigh too much on where the tube inserts into the canister making the tube bend too much and make a kink in it so that the pressure gets cut off. Just make sure the tubes don’t get kinked. I’m only mentioning this because I always have a thick folded bath towel over the top of mine and once or twice the weight of it made the tube kink.

    Is there any suggestion on how you could use this device for a male that is in hospice??I am desperate for suggestions. I have seen catheter bags for males could that be used with Purewick.

    • @KKEM641
      @KKEM641 3 місяці тому

      There is a male version but only in the hospital at this time. From what I understand the male version is not yet approved. In the hospital it is a bag, and uses adhesive to secure it to the groin area. I hope they can come up with a male version for at home.

    • @JCLinMD

      Ideally, you should get up to go. Some people can't void at the bathroom or commode, so they use this to avoid any urinary leakage issues.

      @JCLinMD  Рік тому +1

      Yes.

    • @LatashaCM
      @LatashaCM Рік тому +6

      Yes, they can. My mom had 3 strokes last year and is bedridden and incontinence right now. The purewick is wonderful and I wash the ones she does get poop on. She likes it because she can have her privacy and not sit in pee waiting for someone to clean up up all day.

    • @cuppatea4466
      @cuppatea4466 Рік тому +6

      Absolutely yes! I am a quadriplegic and I can’t get up and go to the bathroom at any time ever so I use this system 24 hours a day and will for the rest of my life. It is a real lifesaver because it sucks up all the urine and prevents me from having to wear a diaper which would eventually get filled with urine and my skin would be against the urine filled diaper Until someone shows up to change me. Having urine against your skin compromises your skin and makes it more likely to get bedsores. The pure wick absorption area is very much less than the area of a whole diaper so it protects the skin from the acidity urine And decreases the likelihood of starting pressure sores. It’s very very important for someone who cannot move to have the pure wick system. I cannot emphasize this enough. I had a lot of little sores, and since I started using pure wick, all of them have disappeared.
