    Nice effort lad, you can sneak a 33T ring on a compact if you've a 5 arm crank, that 3% lower gear makes all the difference lol!
    These climbs are why I'll never dump the triple, 52/38/24, with a 12-30 I get 21" bottom, yours is about 28" with the 34-32.
    At least it wasn't raining and you didn't have to worry about tyre slip!

      Tony firstly he did awesome,great job.But you seem to understand gearing,my setup is 52-36 and 11-34.If I was in first gear how would this differ from a 50-34 and 11-34.Ie what gear equivalent.Thank in advance.

    Great effort, 450w at 4mph says it all. What was your average power? How much did you weigh at the time? It made me laugh when you went into the drops, the futility of trying to get any form of respite, I've been there.

    • @waynejohnson1659
      @waynejohnson1659  4 роки тому +3

      265w for the climb (got a new 20 min watt record on it). 15 stone. I was looking for any way at all to cheat gravity lol. Not fun at all lol.

    Hey thanks for sharing, great effort! I'm thinking of entering next year's c2c and while the distance is obviously daunting I'm more scared by the fact it starts off with Hardknott and Wrynose - I'm a bit worried that's gonna kill me right off the bat. How did it impact the rest of your ride? Any tips on training for this? Cheers mate!

    • @waynejohnson1659
      @waynejohnson1659  3 роки тому +1

      I trained by riding near matlock in derby. and on zwift. If you train hard and do two or three 100 mile sportives you will make it. Its the worst thing ever at the time but the feeling the day after is why we all keep coming back lol.

    And I thought Ditchling Beacon on a 26 ring with 90 fast kilometres in the legs was bad.
    Your breathing in this shows how insane a combination of aerobic capacity and leg strength is needed

    • @waynejohnson1659

    • @waynejohnson1659
      @waynejohnson1659  4 роки тому +1

      It does take it out of you, there is still 135 miles left after hardknott and wrynose. I think it would be a lot more enjoyable with 34 front 34 rear gearing.

    • @bukarin
      @bukarin 4 роки тому

      wayne johnson yeah it’ll definitely be a huge challenge for me. I’ll probably stick a triple crank on with a granny ring and train on the steepest local hill I can find!!

    Just watched two of your climbs and they looked brutal, chapeau to you. I'm going up to have a go up them in a couple of weeks, planned at 60 mile route taking in the Hardknott and Wrynose, any tips?

    • @waynejohnson1659
      @waynejohnson1659  5 років тому +1

      Just dig deep and get trough the first half, then make sure to rest on the flat (8% ish lol) in the middle. Because its brutal at the top. If I can get up at 15 stone its definitely do able. After hardknott, wrynose is a really small one.
