  • In this video, we’re asking one question:
Are we different? Or, more to the point, which is better… Africa or America.
We are going to talk about 5 areas:
    👉🏽 Relationships
    👉🏽 Convenience
    👉🏽 Education
    👉🏽 Health Care
    👉🏽 Travel & Traffic
P.S. Before y’all jump into the comments and tell us Africa isn’t a country, it’s a continent and we’re comparing a continent to a country… thank you for the geography lesson. Gotcha.

I felt my stress levels literally reduce when we moved to Ghana from the uk 12 yrs ago. Although there are advantages living in the uk in terms of the advanced infrastucture, i find the quality of life living in Ghana is so much more on lots of levels. including the weather.

New subscriber here!! There are a few people who moved to Ghana started business themselves for what's lacking in Ghana. Most are from the west and a few from caribbean islands. Some thing crossed my mind about cooking without needing gas. My great grandparents created their own outdoor "barbeque grill" and basically cooked everything on it. Very wide and they used bit of coals, rocks and mostly chopped woods. Also some people who were used to the western life now lived in forest in Ghana with homes they built themselves. I really believed strongly many of us have building and farm skills from our ancestors. We just need to tune into it.

Nice discussion. But also I think there are intangibles that are hard to compare and tally. We lived on the continent for seven years with intermittent light and water and still felt that what really matters - quality human interactions - more than compensated for the inconveniences, which you eventually learn to live with.

*Don't look for American brands in Ghana 🤣 we have our version here.
    You'll be fine
*There's alot of private health insurance in Ghana, they don't cost much but they go a long way to help out.
*Our emergency services here are our neighbours. When you have an emergency, call your neighbour or the next person you see, trust me, they'll help you out.

As you mentioned traffic toward the end, I really wish more African countries would implement incentive for alternative transportation. Bicycle infrastructure would work wonders and require less maintenance. Allow people more options aside from personal vehicles and the amount of cars on the road can be reduced. Even short tram systems or something

    • @savannahwilson1295
      @savannahwilson1295 2 роки тому +3

Totally agree…..the same issue we experience in the Caribbean…..no reliable train or bus system so you have households of four with 2-3 cars. That impacts the traffic on the roadways esp in the cities.

    • @PapaSeanX5
      @PapaSeanX5 2 роки тому +5

@@savannahwilson1295 Yes! Exactly. There is always a short term solution of widening roadways but that is not a sustainable idea. There isn't enough room on the planet for every individual to own their own personal 5-seat automobile. European and American countries have already seen the failures of this mindset. African and Caribbean nations must think with more imagination

    This is the Ghanaian way
    - Get polytanks to store water and you will have no water issues
    - keep two cylinders of gas filled so you just change over when you run out.
    - your cable tv sends you messages on your phone and on your tv screen to warn you when it's time to pay. Keep an eye for it
    - estimate how much electricity you use a month and buy that and buy a little extra to load on when you get your first warning when the prepaid power runs out.
    - Finally dont look for American groceries in Ghana . 😄😄😄

😆 it gets you thinking to become proactive at things right? The best way to deal with the cooking gas issue is to get two cylinders so you have one standby all the time. 😀😀😀 we really have to help you to live the Ghana way.

There's nothing wrong with the public education. It's much better not only in terms of academics but the lifelong relationships and lessons students develop is priceless. The fees these private schools charge are just ridiculous. If more people avoid them, they will change their pricing

I live in the states but from the Caribbean. Ghana has some of the inconveniences of Grenada, but the peace of mind seems to be the deciding factor. Ghana is also a very young country as far as independence. Their ceiling is very high for improvement. Their government seems to have the right idea for the country.

Best gift is Love, Time and Moooooney. What matters more is the LOVE you give and the gratitude. Giving gifts people need individually, not what you think is good for the person. Give a Fishing cane not a big fish.
But the older you get, the more you may need medication. The 20% helps
those who have more have health problems that you have tomorrow.
    What a lovely couple!

Once again everything you said is so correct.
I like you still prefer living in Africa than in the UK only because i feel that people there are more friendly and i do not feel controlled all the time.
There is no freedom in the WEST.
We are constantly dictated to. Even putting your bin bags out on collection days is a complete nightmare here.
I feel like they feel like they have to constantly tell us why when where and how.
    It's feels claustrophobic.

Did you think about the kids schooling prior to moving? if not, how come? It also sounds like mother and son had a more healthier social life in America, do you worry about depression? It sounds lonely for the MRS. No date nights, no physical contact with friends, and husband has friends, is comfortable walking around alone, and seem very happy. How does the MRS cope? What steps are you taking to feel more comfortable with the things you dislike?

@@ericyeboah277 Jesus was a gay man. Unfortunately most Africans don't realise that. We need to end multiculturalism and immigration. No to open borders. Hope you agree with me. Communism and socialism is not good for Africa. We also need to reintroduce racial segregation.

Greetings Expat Life Ghana, Kemet (The Black Lands) AKA Africa hands down is and will always be the origin-birth place of all on this planet. Divine Dark matter deities also completely control the unseen worlds and there isn’t anything anyone in time and space can do about it expect subdue their egos and move forward. Great conversation and excellent points you both make. Eating correctly will indeed result in less sickness which means less doctor visits with the exception of broken or injured limbs, and animal-insects bites. Thanks so much for sharing and I look forward to your next episode.

I think health insurance in the States can be tricky and they go buy your income, but the States do offer Medicare benefits. I had heart surgery and I didn't have to pay nothing, bcuz of Medicaid.

The only thing that has put me off moving to the USA is healthcare insurance. Although we indirectly pay for healthcare through our taxes, I think we're better off healthwise in UK. I have private healthcare insurance too and it is very affordable.
