I feel Elton John doesn't get enough credit for his performances.... the guy sits in a chair whilst playing the piano whilst singing and STILL has the energy and charisma to engage the audience and gets them and me hyped the f**k up! 😂 absolute legend

Monitoring was not the best at live aid. Guessing they tried tried to crack his monitor so he could hear everything over the crowd. This would cause feedback issues especially when he turns his head towards the audience

There's the same problem when queen played crazy little thing at live aid. Must have been something that happened along during the night. Maybe focused too much on volume as opposed to sound quality. But that's something that added to the raw sound magic of live aid

    • @elektronischdev
      @elektronischdev Рік тому +9

@@vidkid1067 Yeah, that might be the problem! At 2:03 you can actually see that some technician is trying to move his monitor. Next frame you see Elton talking to him, or the cameraman.

@Alan Vaytsman I don’t think so, since there’s only the mixed track available, not the individual instruments on separate tracks. Probably some improvements to the overall quality can be made, but I think the roughness and imperfection adds perfectly into the “live” feeling this event had!

You could never know what it's like
Your blood like winter freezes just like ice
And there's a cold lonely light that shines from you
You'll wind up like the wreck you hide behind that mask you use
And did you think this fool could never win?
Well look at me, I'm coming back again
I got a taste of love in a simple way
And if you need to know while I'm still standing you just fade away
Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah
Once I never could hope to win
You starting down the road leaving me again
The threats you made were meant to cut me down
And if our love was just a circus you'd be a clown by now
Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah
Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did
Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid
I'm still standing after all this time
Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind
I'm still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah

I’m almost 70 yrs old now and grew up with Elton John and his music. I always liked him, but NOW that he’s gotten older, I can honestly say that I ❤ him and think he’s improved both vocally and instrumentally (he’s added a LOT more piano 🎹 in his concert performances)! This is a an ‘old’ song that doesn’t go out of style imo, and he’s still been playing it at his ‘Farewell’ concert tour in 2022, but SO MUCH BETTER than this 👎 version! I’ve watched all the videos from this concert he did, and not one has been nearly as well done back then in comparison! Elton’s a real legend in the music world - not only is he talented but he’s also a terrific performer and has great showmanship! * I went to his Farewell concerts 2 X’s within a 6-month period in ‘22 w/ 1st row floor/stage seats - the entire band, including his original members like Davey Johnson 🎸 and Ray Cooper on drums 🥁 (who just never ceases to amaze me with his enthusiasm), etc. made for wonderful memories. Too bad he’s retiring or I would buy tic’s to see him again in a heartbeat 💓!

Terrible sound, in both it's to air mono and stereo mixes the broadcast version occasionally borders on unlistenable, which they weren't able to fix with 2004 technology. Take Me To the Pilot is also missing from the DVD set.
If memory serves me rightly, of the artists who played more than one song only U2, Dire Straits, Queen, David Bowie and Eric Clapton have there entire sets included. A number of artists, The Hooters, Led Zeppelin, Santana, Pat Methany, Billy Ocean, The Four Tops, Bernard Watson, Bo Diddley and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young don't feature at all, neither do the beamed in performances by Kool and the Gang and Prince and the Revolution.
