I feel like 12 pro is rendering warmer pictures overall...you're right about the orange skin, the white balance is off. All the pictures on the 12 pro look 'darker' and muted in the same lighting situations..why is that?
Seems like backlit scenarios really messes with the 12 pros focusing. I've seen other UA-camrs post videos where the iPhone 12 pro completely misses focus when the sun is off to the side or directly behind. Might have something to do with bright lights overpowering the lidars infrared system
I returned my iPhone 12 Pro after 14 days of testing side by side with my iPhone 11 Pro. Most don't have the chances to do this so here's my take. (TLDR: Even money not being an issue, this is the FIRST TIME EVER I've returned a new Apple Product to stick with the previous model.) Photos from the 12 Pro are insanely over sharpened causing crazy halo effects, there's also excess contrast making dark shades completely black whereas on the 11 pro you can actually see what's in the shadows and the white balance is way to cold. The 11 Pro warmer and more realistic tone make the photos look like they were taken from a DSLR while the 12 Pro photos look like they were taken by... well... a phone. Photos do not look natural, think Samsung Galaxy S4 (I'm serious, I have photos taken in the same place by that phone on archive and could compare). I can turn an 11 Pro photo into a 12 Pro photo simply by increasing contrast and sharpness by a stupid amount, but vice-versa is not possible. Once you crush the blacks and add an absurd amount of sharpness that add insane halos to edges, you can't go back. There are also huge issues with the LiDAR and autofocus, it doesn't know when to use which camera in closeups and it literally switches back and forth between the 2 like crazy. The screen is also worse compared to the 11 Pro, True Tone seems to be the issue, it's off causing a large amount of yellow tint on the phone. The auto brightness is also an issue. The phone is either too dark or to bright. Think about it, money is not an issue and I still returned it favoring the 11 Pro. Search Reddit or Google for Sharpness and contract on iPhone 12 Pro and you'll find an insane amount of complaints. IF you can't test it side by side this goes without being noticed, but when compared for 14 days with more than 1000 photos... wow 95% win for iPhone 11 Pro.
Just upgraded my 8 plus to a 11 pro max. I love it. It’s taking me a bit to get adjusted to swiping to unlock phone but beside that this phone is a BEAST I’ll have this for a very long time... unless the iPhone 13 proves worthy lol 😂

iPhone 13 will probably be more expensive and might have even worse battery life. First, if 7h SoT isn't enough for you, you have other issues. Second, I hate that they did not include a charger but about mmWave I really don't care. Besides speedtests, there are no applications for it and even in the US coverage is horrible. They could lower the price outside the US like google did with the pixel 5.

This is what I expect from a reviewer. To the points, very precise like comparing audio and helps in making decisions. Thanks for your effort. Lidar would have made sense if it gave portrait mode for videos, which apps like focos live is already doing in older phones. Those who upgrade for the design might feel okay, rest of the people will regret the upgrade if they were hoping for a jump in productivity or improvements.
@@AuthenTech They might bring it in their next phone as a new feature "The apple way of doing things". Hope they do it, and if they do it, I am pretty sure they will do it in the best way.
Great comparison video.... I’m still using 6s and have a plan to upgrade to latest version , but I am bit confused ... which one should I go for 11pro or 12 pro??
Don’t forget the 12 has night mode on every lens, deep fusion on every lens- a new 7 element main lens with wider aperture. Dolby vision video recording. Lidar lens as well. 5G... and it’s the same starting price as the 11 pro. You also get more base storage.
Yeah ultra wide pictures are noticeably better than last year and there are many other camera improvements he didn’t mention in the video like hdr video, night mode and deep fusion on selfies, the faster aperture, and night mode improvements
The dynamic range on 12 pro video is far better than 11 pro. Looking at the sky and the details on the clouds, it's pretty clear it's a huge improvement. How could you say that the improvement is minor? So much details in the clouds and 11 pro really washed out, any blogger would prefer the 12 pro video without a doubt. The difference is not subtle, it's huge as 11 pro completely blows out the background, it's all washed out while 12 pro has it controlled and very detailed. It's not even about more or less details, it's about the cloud is clearly present on one and cloud is non existent on one.
Such a great video, in depth in detail with plenty examples and honest! And also I had a hunched on the minimal new camera features, I also think the big change is probably on the pro max simply because of the larger sensor

I have the iPhone 12 pro max. Pacific blue. I’m “upgrading” from a 11 pro max. Honestly, there isn’t much difference. However, for some reason that extra .2 inches makes the screen really different. It feels “edgeless” so to speak. Haha Idk maybe it’s me. But yeah. Other than that it feels exactly like my 11 pro max. I only upgrade cause I can upgrade every year. If it wasn’t for that I’d keep my 11. So definitely keep you 11 pro max I’d say.
Great video! As a person that upgrades every year, after looking at the many reviews on this phone, I was disappointed with the new iPhones this year. I have the 11 pro but I’ll keep mine until the 13 models come out. I don’t care about the 5g and I’m not really liking the fact that the battery life sucks. This video just confirmed what I was thinking about upgrading.
I'm really thankful to you for giving the clarification...❤️❤️❤️ Can u give me suggestions... I'm looking to purchase iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 11 pro and both are similar prices...
Hey Ben! Nice job Buddy! I really like the 11 pro the most! I Just wanna make sure about which one in your opinion, has more yellowing pictures? I don’t wanna appear too yellow on selfies and normal pictures.. which one of those has better nice skin colors? Not too yellow or saturated. Thanks in advance! Keep up the great work brother.
Thank you for this honest review. Because, I have been watching some reviews from 6:00pm to 2:00am now. I know that Iphone 11pro camera is nicer than 12 with just a few upgrades but not worth for more extra money to spend.
Upgrading yearly is only for enthusiasts who can afford it. The X to the XS was not worth it. The XS to the 11 Pro was not worth it. The 12 Pro to the 13 Pro will not be worth it (not even for 120hz). I'd argue that three years is the minimum for the average person
@Mike Cook I don't think it is either. If you like having the latest tech and can afford it, there's no issue. Expecting major changes each year is where people are going wrong
Thanks for the honest review. I’ve an 11 pro which I got this summer and T-Mobile has been offering tempting deals for me to trade my 11 Pro for the iPhone 12 pro. Glad I watched this video to change my mind lol. Also, did You shoot this video in Huntsville, AL?
Agreed. I had slight confusion between these two on the camera department but thru ur video comparison, got to know might be slightly not that much what I expected. Also the box type of 12 series is not much interested according to me when compared with 11 pro series. Thanks for ur valid inputs. Cheers 👍
People have to understand that they do not have to upgrade their phones every year, unless it has a killer feature, or design that you need to have. If you have an iPhone 11/Pro, you have a device that you can enjoy for the next few years. I will upgrade to the new 12 Pro Max, currently using a 6S Plus, just because I really need a better camera. Otherwise, it is still a perfectly capable phone.
Exact my thought too. Just because a new model is released doesn't mean you are supposed to upgrade. If you have an 8 or 7, then maybe. Comparison with last year's model is kind of meaningless. Of course, you don't want anything to become less good, but to expect a far better product every 12 month that is just stupid.
Thanks for the video! I am upgrading from a 7, lol so I don't have those kind of issues to compare! But since I am coming from far down low.... must I get the 12? Thank you!!!
Thumbs up for the honesty. I am really tired of watching biased and paid reviews boosting every new tech released. Even the big name videographer/cinematographers I follow on UA-cam joined this bandwagon lately. Its getting harder and harder to get really honest reviews like this one.
I was just looking the other day to possibly upgrade. My 11 Pro still new even though I’ve had it a year. Thanks for saving me some money. I stay where I’m at.
Taking a look at a still at around 1:17, it's CLEAR that the 12 Pro does a much better job in evening out the exposure to give you great detail in the sky while retaining some depth in your skin. I have an 11 myself, but I'm more interested in how the Max will differentiate.
Great & honest comparison review as usual. 👍🏼 I agree. I think because of Covid interrupting production, this isn’t the exact iphone 12 pro Apple was planning. No 120 Hz screen rate is a bummer. As an iPhone 11 Pro Max user, I will wait to see how the iPhone 12 Pro Max fairs with it’s larger sensor & OIS on the wide camera chip. But I am thinking I will probably skip this generation. Like you said, 5G & the HDR Dolby Video aren’t even widely supported yet. I am tempted by the nightmode in the ultra wide lens tho. But i don’t think that’d be enough for me to plunk down $1,400...oops $899 with the Apple trade in. Still, not worth it to me. Question, did you try to edit the hdr dolby video on an iPad Pro with LumaFusion? Just curious. Cheers!
Couldn't agree more. Great video. Upgrade my 8+ to the 11 Pro Max, from swappa, no regrets (except I miss touch ID because Face ID doesn't always work for me). iOS 14 was more exciting than the iPhone 12. A smaller battery on the 12 which means shorter battery life.
Wow! Thank you for thorough and honest review! I wanted to get the pro12, but now having viewed your content, I will save a few hundred bucks and either upgrade to iPhone 11 pro or just continue to use my current iPhone until next year.
Ben, we got a “fun new camera system” 3:00 with the iPhone 11 Pro (triple lens system)!! You want yet another fun new camera system one year later? Don’t you think that’s an unreasonable expectation? Most people will be coming from an earlier iPhone (I have an iPhone X) and going to the 12 is a big upgrade.
Oh, and 5G is such a marketing term right now, just watch MKB's video if you don't believe me. It sucks battery life, spotty and rare coverage, don't fall for the gimmick - it's gonna take a while for sufficient rollout.

Clutch review ben! Exactly what wanted to know
I'm really thankful to you for giving the clarification...❤️❤️❤️
Can u give me suggestions...
Thanks man for the honest review!
It's better to save $$ :)
@Mike Cook I don't think it is either. If you like having the latest tech and can afford it, there's no issue. Expecting major changes each year is where people are going wrong
@Mike Cook I'm the exact same as you. Flossy is one of my favourites too!
Nice video and very detailed comparison!
Thank you for this!
Also uhh,
a very good looking dude.
Keep it up!
Yup and thanks!
Agreed. I had slight confusion between these two on the camera department but thru ur video comparison, got to know might be slightly not that much what I expected. Also the box type of 12 series is not much interested according to me when compared with 11 pro series. Thanks for ur valid inputs. Cheers 👍
Thank you Ben, I am waiting for you’re review on the 12 Pro Max
Facts
what kind of people would upgrade their phones every single year ?
People that choose to and have the money? Why do people change cars every year?
@@TheM275 Doesn’t mean they “have the money”. If that were true 78% of Americans wouldn’t be living paycheck to paycheck.
Thanks, this video helped me save my money and buy the iphone 11 pro
Great vid subscribed to your channel , it’s put me off upgrading my iPhone 11 Pro to the 12 pro after this Thankyou you’ve saved me a ton of money 😁
You are the only few people who is TELLING THE TRUTH!!! Thank you !!!!!
1 thing I can confirm, this video is not sponsored
Cheers!
I didn't try that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts tho
Imma stick with my iPhone 7 thanks mate !keep the vid coming best review channel !
Thanks!
Appreciate the honesty and not following the tech tube community hype train. I found the same, and the price difference not worth the minor upgrades
This is what I call an honest review ! 👍
Thank you for this honest review. You just saved me a ton of cash!
Thanks for the honest video and review!
a more interesting test would be between the 11 and 12 Pro Max.
