"Theres not many coffee shops" After coming out of the Strand Arcade which has 3 on the ground floor alone! LOL. Most Australian coffee shops are small independent cafes, the multinational chains can't cut it here due to rubbish coffee quality.
Very true and there are a few in the QVB too but I think Lee was referring to to big chains they have a lot more of in the UK, but the small independents serve a much better quality coffee, most people have their regular place to go to also…
I'm a Sydneysider and was so surprised when you said that there aren't any cafes everywhere because there are! Then I realised that it's because you were looking for coffee chains which we don't really have. Our cafes are independent cafes. Sydney is just as obsessed with coffee as the rest of Australia!
I clicked on this video because I was born in Sydney and lived here all my life, and I KNOW how great it is. I wanted to see what a Pom had to whinge about. I was pleasantly surprised to see Lee Mack, one of my favourite comedians. I was further pleased to see he just couldn't find anything to whinge about. Enjoy your time here Lee. PLEASE do hop on a Manly ferry and take in our spectacular harbour for a few quid. The Manly ferry is less about seeing what's at Manly than checking out the harbour. Visit Taronga Zoo (also on the harbour, you can catch a ferry there too) and see some of our astonishing wildlife.
Sydney is everything that New York isn't. Sydney is clean , safe and excellent public transport and fantastic green spaces and a lot of history to see and places to visit.
I love Australia but I really really enjoyed my time in NY it was incredible. Museums, Art Galleries, Grand Central Station. The Cloisters, Central Park. The Empire State Building. Possibly the rudest ppl ever but funny because you can be rude back. Never felt unsafe and I traveled on the subway to Queens where I stayed everyday. Sorry if you had a bad experience in NY I loved it.
But it does have very high crime, very many homeless, people sleeping rough, in gutters, drugs everywhere! Loved there for years during the 80’s, got burgled 3 times and that’s when we knew “gotta leave this dive!” Moved to Albury, so much nicer! And of course Sydney now far worse than way back then!! Still love it, but could never go back to live!
I like this style of video. I was born in one of the inner city suburbs of Sydney. Even though I now live in the Blue Mountains I love to travel into Sydney, on a regular basis, to wander the streets I grew up in. A favourite pastime of mine is to sit under the northern side of the Harbour Bridge and watch all the watercraft ply the waterways. It's also a wonderful spot to view the city skyline.
Hi Lee! Done the Sydney Harbour to Manly ferry many times. It's Great.....just like a mini-cruise! You get a fantastic view of Sydney Harbour on the return .Enjoy.
Have to say it Lee... been watching these videos from Australia and you're making me really want to go. It looks like a wonderful life over there. Good weather, decent shops, lovely people.
20 years in Brisbane, 9 in Melbourne, and now almost 5 in Sydney.. Sydney is far and away the best and the only true international city in Australia. Not mentioning that it's one of the most spectacular looking cities in the world and a climate that's near perfect.
Touching the Opera House for your Mum was lovely. I am sure she would be and indeed is very proud of her son. Enjoying the vids! Stay safe on your travels.
do yourself a favour and take a trip up to parramatta and back from circular key on the river cat(ferry), you'll get to see a lot more of the Sydney harbour and parramatta river waterways, you differently won't regret it, its a very nice outing, actually that very quiet for Sydney, compared to precovid, a lot the government departments staff are still working from home
Awesome comment mate. Also a place to experience 40+ degrees weather. Parramatta is the CBD for Western Sydney and home to just under 3,00,000 people from I reckon every bloody nation on the planet. I have had mates from every continent and I've experienced women of all colours and backgrounds. Parramatta is the real Sydney
You’re not seeing coffee shops because there aren’t any chain stores, they never took off, it’s all independent cafes, there are probably more coffee machines in Sydney, they just aren’t in garishly advertised shops
Thank the lord we don't have Costa or many Starbucks, we love real coffee here. Go for a flat white. So many great independent coffee shops here which I'm sure you'll discover when you stop looking for the chains. Ferry to Watsons Bay for fish and chips a beautiful trip too, any ferry ride actually. Enjoy.
Another great vlog. Got my wife watching these now and her comment 'he's a really good presenter!' . With all the depressing weather here in England, nice to see all the warm sun! Keep up the great work.
Great vlog Lee & ( don’t often comment but do watch ) Would love to visit Australia one day You certainly covered a lot in this trip Love the architecture in Sydney x👍👍
No coffee shops?! There are plenty, but independent or local chains. Starbucks didn't do well here. Recommendations for Sydney? The Blue Mountains, Bondi to Bronte walk, ferry to Manly, the Rocks. Centrepoint Tower has great views. Taronga Zoo is nice, beautiful views of the Harbour with a ferry ride to get there.
I think it's less common to have shops specifically dedicated to selling coffee in Aus. Usually you find espresso machines and good quality coffee in cafes, restaurants, bars or even fast food places. There are of course a few dedicated espresso bars though.
You’re confusing lack of sh!t chain coffee shops for lack of cafes. The cafe culture in Australia is huge compared to the UK, but not in awful chain coffee stores.
On the ferry back from Manly you can get off at Watsons bay - it is a beautiful part of sydney. Also check out Bondi Icebergs if you go to Bondi beach. You can do the Bondi to Cogee walk.
As someone who lives in Perth ....I can say I LOVE❤ Sydney , it's stunning and has a cool vibe but I couldn't live there. Well I could live there if I was stinking rich and could live on the harbour 😅
Starbucks came out here & failed because it's crap, there's only a few stores left. We have Italian style coffee culture where it's focused more in cafes with barista made coffee. You can walk into most cafes to get a coffee to go & even some of the takeaway sandwich type places in the city arcades geared towards making lunches for city workers have coffee machines & offer great coffee. I used to work in Castlereagh St near DJs many years ago & there was a great little place over the road in the Imperial Arcade where we could grab gourmet sandwiches & latte's every day. There will still be heaps of places once you know what to look for.
Visit the Rocks area. Quiet area up behind the Harbour bridge. Lots of small interesting shops and eateries. Also take the ferry to Manly, great harbour views. Come back on the faster Catamaran - slightly pricier. Also a trip across the harbour to North Sydney is recommended.
I was born and raised in Sydney. Now living in Sunshine Coast. It's great to hear a foreigners perspective. We really do have it good in Australia. We can sometimes take that for granted.
Aussie aren’t really fond of “Starbucks” it’s not very nice coffee and we are snobs when it comes to coffee. Love you tour of Sydney and like this style of videos. Glad you enjoy our beautiful country.
The park is the Royal Botanic Gardens. Go to the South Pylon of the Harbour Bridge and for about $19, you can go up to the museum and outside, to look at the amazing harbour and bridge views. There is also the Bridge climb at about $300+ The Sydney Eye has a revolving restaurant in it with 360 degree views of the city.
I was there in 2018, and I loved Sydney. The highlight of the trip was a day in the Blue Mountains. Highly recommended. Also if you want some adventure go on the Oz Jet Boat. It is Amazing.
Love this style video much better. feels more like we're just hanging out and relaxing. thank's for all your hard work in always trying to please us!!!!
Always love your informal videos, hearing the natural background sounds is wonderful, glad it's such a successful trip for you, to keep you in water breaks I'm watching the adverts ..onwards..
Hi Lee, just to let you know, I really enjoyed your trip around Sydney. Some great views, nice photography, what fantastic city it is 👌👍 just about catching up now with your latest vlog, looking forward to the next one👍 keep up the good work mate 😊👏👌
The coastal walk between Coogee and Bondi Beach is worth doing. A ferry to Watsons Bay, a walk across the harbour bridge to Kirribilli for the view from the other side and food/drinks at The Rocks area (near the cruise ship terminal). Pub lunch at the top of The Glenmore Hotel on Cumberland Street, gives good views of the harbour.
Yes.. what a city!! I expected it more busy.. at the Opera House.. and i like the contrast between old and new buildings!! This was excellent.. i enjoyed it!!
Sorry, but I need to give you some constructive criticism and I hope you don’t get offended. Basically, you need to do more research. From the get go, all the things you past and made absolutely no comment about, explained, history, what it represents, etc: 1. the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park, 2. The Archibald Fountain in Hyde Park (“the guy hugging the bull”), 3. St Mary’s Cathedral next to Hyde Park, 4. The Barracks - Sydney was a penal colony! - and Gov Macquarie over the door of it - famous for laying out the plan of Sydney, 5. The NSW Parliament building - how old, etc, and you could have gone inside - 6. Details about the Sydney harbour bridge and opera house, 7. The Queen Victoria building, which you passed, and is one of the most beautiful shopping buildings in the world. The only things we really got were sky writers and how hot you were and how much you needed a drink. Admittedly, you gave us some very beautiful images of Sydney. Lastly, the CBD of Sydney and its suburbs are full to the gills with cafes but they are all independent cafes. You are probably so used to chain coffee shops that you probably didn’t realise that you passed 20 smaller indie cafes. So, do better please. A little research from a lonely planet guide can really improve your videos.
Drop me an email. I'll get you on camera and lets see how you do. Seriously. Drop me an email. I always have people on the vlog. I'll let you do the talking and I'll film.
I think it shows an honest Innocent Abroad! When some visit a completely new country, nay continent, there is so much to absorb & coming from a very gloomy, dank, dark England where it virtually hasn't stopped raining since before Christmas, the Aussie sun will almost addle the brain. I find it quite interesting how few people bother to do anything but the most superficial research before visiting a place - and indeed will be comparing what they see to what they've left behind. I do find it rather shocking how certain Brands seem iconic to some people, almost synonymous - that if they want a coffee they go here or a burger they go there. One of the great things about Aussie eateries is how many independents there are - I'm assuming it's the same on the Mainland as in Tassie? I always thought one of the big complaints from Locals about British tourists is their whingeing about the food 'not like wot it is at home!' They want their pie & chips... I would hope that on a second visit - or ensuing explorations Lee at least captures the information boards long enough so we can pause & absorb - I must admit, never having been to Sydney, it looked great from this video, the parks, buildings and setting were gorgeous and reminded me a bit of Chicago - but really stunning and accessible and did make me want to find out more - and to recommend it as a destination beyond the Bridge & Opera House! I do realize I'm seeing it through Lee's eyes - rather than as a destination guide.
300 days of sunshine a year, but the trade off is living with funnel webs & red backs, also huntsman & jumping spiders, not to mention crocs & snakes if you wanna venture out of town for a walk.
Our Sydney suburb is in an area known as being a home for funnel webs. Once, perhaps twice, a year we see one, catch it (you have to know what you're doing) and take it to the casualty section of the nearby public hospital. From there, our spider friend finds its way to a happy home, where it's milked for the venom. In turn , that becomes the anti-venene. Most people here would go at least several years between seeing one, or the others you mention. In close on 80 years living here, I've yet to see a croc in Sydney outside the Zoo. They are tropical beasts, several thousand kilometres north from here. Snakes may well be around in the bush - but not in areas tourists visit. They'll detect your presence and slither away.
Great Vlog Lee I absolutely love those walking videos so I'd like to see more of those types of vlogs, Sydney looks a wonderful place with some beautiful architecture as well as super looking parks & harbours
No we don't get coffee from "starbucks" that is not coffee. We have lots of little cafe's that do proper espresso/coffee. Actually 1 of the best ones was at the Strand Arcade
That was a great video, love Sydney lots.....Sydney tower has a revolving restuarant and terrific views at the top, Darling harbour and Chinatown is fabulous I think you touched the edge of the Botanical gardens by the Opera house where there is fabulous bars along the waterfront and up behind where the cruise ship is berthed is an area call the Rocks, well worth a visit....That cruise ship is P&0 Arcadia on its world cruise that we were on in October to Canada....I could go on and on but you will find things exploring like you are....how many steps did you do on that blog....
Huge campaigns on The telly in the 80s to ‘Keep Australia Beuatiful’. Littering is definitely frowned upon. Bins are plentiful, as is access to public toilets, so not too much p!sing in the street after a night out on the town. Large Public events are well generally well organised with extra porta loos and bins to account for influx of people. I was shocked by vision I saw of a recent FA cup- how little was done to account for the crowd- rubbish and crud everywhere that apparently gets swept up the next day. In Australia, if the facilities are provided, we all seem to do our bit and the clean up is easier because of it .
Mate, it is an absolute pleasure to have here in Sydney. Welcome aboard ☺️. Thank you for stopping by. Please come back and visit or stay at anytime. Peace from Sydney ✌️🤗.
For the life of me i cannot understand this constant discussion comparing coffee, or Melbourne has better coffee than Sydney etc , ok im a tea drinker but in a list of importance in my life it probably wouldn't be in the top 50 of requirements
There’s no difference in the best coffee in Sydney and the best coffee in Melbourne. There are just more good coffee shops in Melbourne and more cheap coffee places /chains in Sydney. It’s all still imported Columbian, Mexican & Ethiopian coffee beans
You could consider climbing the bridge. You should visit Bondi Beach and travel by train to Katoomba where you can see the great divide and the three sisters and go on the steepest railway in the world. The ferry trip to Manley allows unusual views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House
Thanks for another great video, loving this style of video, very relaxing and i feel like i am there. Loving Sydney, there is so much to see, and i would love to visit😊😊
Enjoying your vlogs from down under Lee ,Perth looks a stunning place ! Noticed on this one the P O cruise ship Arcadia in Sydney Harbour which left Southampton a bit before you !!!
Cafes are everywhere in Sydney. They’re not part of chains (we don’t like coffee from chain stores) always independently owned and usually quite petite with just a few tables. ☕️🤎
I migrated from the Canary Islands to Sydney, Australia in December 1994. Best decision I ever made. There is no country on earth like our little Island home. I cannot stand the Spanish temperament anymore. I love the Australian way. At least we can take the piss out of ourselves and not want to punch someone when they do it to us.
I liked this walkabouts style without the music, it was relaxing to watch and you seemed to fit more in. Bondi beach is easily reached by train. There is a scenic cliff top walk to several more beaches. The Manly ferry trip gives great views of the harbour and has both harbour and ocean beaches at Manly. Manly and Bondi are quite different to each other. A day trip to the Blue Mountains, train from Central Station, is well worth it. Take a jacket, it can be cooler than the city. If you’re still in Sydney for the Mardi Gras parade make sure to go.
Welcome to your Penal Colony. All that Sun and blue sky instead of English fog mist and rain. Consider yourself punished for crimes in the old country. You can thank James Cook and Lachlan MacQuarie.
My Mum and I have been watching all your posts lately, must say we prefer without music, just the sounds of the city and your tour is more than enough. Go to Palm Beach, also known as Summer Bay in Home and Away, the Brits will love it.
Very enjoyable thank you. I don't know Sydney at all, but during the 80's and 90's lived in both Melbourne and Perth. I preferred the size of Perth but I liked the varied climate of Melbourne. Hobart is probably my favourite state capital. I watch MGuy too.
Cafe prices are steep near opera house. There are reasonably priced places to eat behind circular quay station. A picture perfect view of opera and bridge is at mrs Macquaries chair. At 29:01 the round fountain is featured in Superman Returns.
Hi Lee. Try and go on the big ferry to Manly. Hopefully with a bit of a swell coming in the heads, and the ferry rolls into the swell. Loads of fun and a very pretty trip. Manly is beautiful but very busy on the weekends.
Lee, walk to the area opposite the Opera House where you will be in the area known as The Rocks, which is the oldest part of Sydney, and you can walk under the Bridge.
Well done mate. I liked the no music and your excellent banter and commentary about our beautiful Sydney. I'll be watching with interest the rest of your Aussie tour. Thanks & cheers from Sydney AU.
Hey hun OMG what a beautiful city. And what beautiful buildings and Parks thank you hun for sharing this with us . lovely to see Sydney Opra house.. I bet you are glad that you went now I love it wen its just being you very natural and very busy lovely place to visit xxxx

I think it's less common to have shops specifically dedicated to selling coffee in Aus. Usually you find espresso machines and good quality coffee in cafes, restaurants, bars or even fast food places. There are of course a few dedicated espresso bars though.

Those birds with long beaks are Australian Ibises. Colloquially we call them “bin chickens” because they have learned to raid garbage bins for food.
Lovely video nice and steady lovely scenery onwards my friends 👍
Do you notice a difference in the brightness of the Sunshine in Australia. Not the heat, but the actual light?
Yeah. It's that bright I have to drop the exposure on the camera.

the streets are spotless im just amazed compared too the uk makes me realise what a dump the uk as become
Funny , Im in Perth western Australia but was in London in January and thought London was really clean ( except the Tube) ,😂
That sky is absolutely stunning
Huntsman spiders are a plus. To the uninitiated they look scary but are harmless to humans. They hunt annoying insects.
Great video Lee! Sydney looks awesome. Lovely blue sky.😊😊
Sydney used to be nice when there were only 2 million people there.
Australian cities are clean compared with the UK
Coffee in the US is considered punishment
Absolutely loving these videos Lee- I love them whichever style you do them in. Sydney looks fabulous 😊
I much prefer this style of video. I hate the walk bys and the music.
Thanks for another great video, loving this style of video, very relaxing and i feel like i am there. Loving Sydney, there is so much to see, and i would love to visit😊😊
No doubt in my mind we here in Britain are living in the third world 😢.
Import the Third World, get the Third World.
Go to Katoomba and see the Blue Mountains by train for the day.
@@geoffcrisp7225Invade the 3rd world...
Sadly I fully agree😢
I wonder if the third world countries are going to do a LIVE AID for us !!!! or collecting their empty cans for blue peter!!
Enjoying your vlogs from down under Lee ,Perth looks a stunning place ! Noticed on this one the P O cruise ship Arcadia in Sydney Harbour which left Southampton a bit before you !!!
I'm originally from Sydney but I found Perth to be a beautiful, clean, modern city. Sydney by comparison is too big and noisy.
Costa coffee is not good.
What a beautiful place. More blue skies are more than welcome.
I like the vid style, looking forward to the MGUY chat, he's a cool dude.
life would have been sooo much better if my great grand parents had the foresight to nick a couple of loavs of bread..
Spot on, defo get that ferry to Manly, then walk around there, in particular check out Shelly Beach, beautiful spot…
PLEASE show us some respect. do not compare us to the Yanks. we are a constitutional monarchy . Charley is our King. thank you
Cafes are everywhere in Sydney. They’re not part of chains (we don’t like coffee from chain stores) always independently owned and usually quite petite with just a few tables. ☕️🤎
if you come to sydney there are 3 and only 3 must do items. 1 opera house, 2 QVB, 3 manly by ferry.
We really enjoyed the walkabout in Sydney more please
Nice touch for Mum at the opera house x
My Mum and I have been watching all your posts lately, must say we prefer without music, just the sounds of the city and your tour is more than enough. Go to Palm Beach, also known as Summer Bay in Home and Away, the Brits will love it.
An amazing city, putting British cities well and truly in the shade, in more than one way.
As an Aussie who doesn't go to Sydney that much , I enjoyed this tour as much as a new chum would . Good job whinging Pom .
Yes Lee should have gone there shouldn't he
Hi Lee. Try and go on the big ferry to Manly. Hopefully with a bit of a swell coming in the heads, and the ferry rolls into the swell. Loads of fun and a very pretty trip. Manly is beautiful but very busy on the weekends.
Hi Lee nice video.
Sydney is a huge city very busy lots going on there thanks for sharing this with us👍
Lee, walk to the area opposite the Opera House where you will be in the area known as The Rocks, which is the oldest part of Sydney, and you can walk under the Bridge.
Should go to darling Harbour at night and Star City. Taronga zoo is a must on the cable car.
Well done mate. I liked the no music and your excellent banter and commentary about our beautiful Sydney. I'll be watching with interest the rest of your Aussie tour. Thanks & cheers from Sydney AU.
Thanks Peter
