I started volunteering at a local thrift store that gets a lot of high end items. They had a new volunteer who priced things based on what she found on eBay so it caused a back log of items and very angry shoppers. I volunteered to change that and price things to sell fast so we never had to turn down a donation. I also voiced that we should encourage resellers, because they come with cash, shop fast and help our sell through rate. We now focus more on selling fast instead of squeezing out every penny.
Last year we donated $520,000 to a local mental health non profit. We hope to hit one million this year.
I go to a thrift store on Tuesday they have 3 for $1 based on the color tag. They roll out racks and racks of clothing that qualifies for 33c. They WANT TO SELL and get inventory out the door. We don't have to go through racks looking for the color tabs.
That's the way to do it.
But resellers take literally everything. These stores are here to help people not pad someone's wallet.
@@TracyWheat2023 There is plenty to go around. So much gets donated that we can keep our prices very low because we have to sell fast. We even have to turn away donations because we don't have enough floor space. Resellers can't possible buy up everything.

@TracyWheat2023 besides, everyone makes a living doing something. It's not padding someone's wallet. It's a TOUGH TOUGH job! And a self-motivating, hard working grind. I was unemployed and struggling when I started, and am still barely making it. Is THAT not helping someone down on their luck? There's plenty to go around, and many who won't shop thrift stores but WILL pay more for it on ebay. Just logical good commerce helping all kinds of needs.
Good to see the reselling coming back as the main topic of the video. Bins to Whatnot just not realistic for so many people.

Correct but seeing the hard days are also good too see as a reseller my closest bins is 4 hours so it’s not feasible to me but I like see the strikeouts too.

We started buying golf clubs in bulk. Which the buy cost is way lower than if we found them at thrift stores. Also saves us time not having to drive around looking for clubs. We have over 6,000 right now. 😂
We've done Amazon & Walmart pallets and there's been nothing but junk. Not to mention the amount of time we spent going through them. With those, you have to buy several to find one that is profitable. Not for us.
Always a good question to ask yourself, "What if thrift stores went away?" Always diversify where you find inventory.
Today I was on Facebook and saw someone was selling Lulu Lemon shorts and bars for 3 a piece. Then I looked who the seller was and it was my grandsons girlfriend. I messaged her so fast and said Girl Grandma will buy it all. She is going to nursing school and needed the money so I gave her a little bonus. Great way to source.

@@TracyWheat2023 Why would they do that? There is zero morale dilemma to not doing that. They already were selling it and instead of a non family member benefiting, a family member paid them more than they would have gotten and they profit too. Anti resale is so boring
I don't even go to thrift stores anymore, I have been hitting community yard sales and online auctions mostly. I've done some bulk buys and stuff like that before as well.
I went to the bins today for the first time, and I was amazed. While everyone was waiting to get signaled to hit the news bins that came out, I was finding tons of brand names on what they left behind, one of them a long sleeve women's shirt if Micheal Kors. I was super happy,
We have bought 3 storage units since February and we're hooked! First unit was amazing! Paid $570, kept $2000 worth of stuff, profited another $5k with another 3-4k worth of stuff to sell. Second unit was also pretty good. Paid $300, made about 1k so far with some high end cameras and RC plane stuff left to list. Most recent unit paid $300 and sold a washer dryer for $300 in the first week so everything's profit. Not nearly as much sellable stuff, lots of donations put on the side of the road and people flocked to it. But we'll still get about 2k by the end of it. Looking for our 4th unit...

you said it right, best tip for resellers looking to expand is to tell people they are a reseller! I have been doing so many bulk buys the past year, that I thrift very little now. Still hit garage sales but take some weekends off, but I mean garage sale season is fun so I go out because i love the treasure hunt.
Yes, garage sales are superior to thrift stores in my opinion. Thrift stores are slowly becoming our competitor. Keep grinding folks
It's awesome when you have people that look out for you like that (the guy that grabbed the box of Hero-clicks)! I am not a full time thrifter, and probably never will be, but love to watch your videos and enjoy seeing the finds you get. This last Christmas I did however make a find that I couldn't pass up and made $40.00 so thank you for inspiring!
Our Goodwills price everything so high that most of the good stuff ends up in the bins anyway.

What will knock your socks off is that once goodwill or Salvation Army is done, they bale it up and send it here to Mexico City, and what you can find here on the street is just ridiculous. All my best from the @mikeinmexico channel.
My Goodwill are great. I am seeing some increases in prices on some new with tag items. Golf clubs just went crazy. I normally find all clubs are marked $1.99 each no matter condition or brand. Picked up a lot of $100 plus clubs over the years. They now price them $3.99 to $7.99. I could easily spend $300 plus a day at Goodwill if I stayed in there all day. I run in and out in about an hour and pick up $50 to $100 worth of products. This is my only source of inventory. I did over $100,000 last year in sales. Average price paid is about $5.50 per item.
Ramble away Josh - this was a very informative video, to me anyway. I haven't started reselling ... yet, but I have so much stuff from my mom that I don''t need and I'd like to try selling it before donating it. I keep learning the ins and outs from you and others I watch and appreciate every nugget of info that's passed along.
I went to a small shop and saw a sign as I was walking up that said they were full and not accepting any donations. Well, their prices were just as bad as Goodwill. Nothing at reseller prices. No wonder they were full.
Yeah I've been wondering when these thrift stores that have raised their prices are going to realize they are overflowing with inventory becuz people are not buying at those prices!
I'm in the DFW area & spend a bit of time in west Texas as well. Personally, I've found some of the best thrift stores in the smaller towns outside of the bigger cities. I have several that I go to regularly that have bag sales at least once a month and I find all sorts of things and end up with a cost of less than .50 per item. Many times, it is like .25. I think a lot of people don't think about going a little bit out for thrifting. I tend to find a lot of good vintage items as well.
You guys are so lucky to have good Goodwills. The one closest to me in Maysville, KY is crap. The next closestcis 50 miles away. They rarely have anything good. Mostly crap brands with high prices.
Great save of those Heroclix from the dump. Some college kid is going to come home and be mad 😂. Amazes me what some people dump rather than donate!
Trust me, they aren't that valuable. I not only play the game Heroclix, but also resell miniatures (as well as roleplaying books, boardgames, etc). No cards for the figures that would come with them hurts those figures and nothing else screamed out to me on first glance. Probably get $0.50-$1 per figure. Maybe more since he has more of a following, but for the average reseller it won't make a ton of money.
Lately, since I’m retired, and have/had a stamp collection I have been buying large box lots of stamps for $100-200. The first one is up to about a $700 profit. Not great to live on but a nice sideline that also feeds my hobby.

In that area of the country, the only garage sales are mostly only on Saturdays. There are actually a decent amount of sales if you are willing to look them up or sometimes drive a little farther. But I feel they are just content going to the flea market instead and do their usual routine

No they wouldn't survice, so they should be looking after their re sellers and stop ripping them off
I haven't been in my local Goodwill in weeks now. I used to spend a good $100/month in that store, and more near Christmas when they brought in the good stuff. Now, even $20/month is a pipe dream. They chased the resellers off by selling only trash and low quality clothing, unless you hit a mistake.

The problem is that everyone donates to Goodwill, even though they are not totally nonprofit. if people would donate to the small mom and pops shops then their prices might be lower. They probably go source their things like you do and have to mark them up. That’s why their prices are a little higher. Your mom and Pop shop by donating your items to these people and not the Goodwill or Salvation Army. They are not nonprofits.
At least they do SOME good with it. I agree mom and pop stores would benefit the economy more though, which is good for all. My pet peeve is SAVERS, which is completely for profit, pays their employees terribly, takes donations and then overpriced them. Horrible company!

we sold our whole Skylanders collection and that tiki guy ( double trouble) in the chase version can be worth a lot. We were shocked. Selling them started our ebay reselling journey and we haven't stopped since
Aquanet hairspray will take Sharpy off slick surfaces. It literally melts Magic Marker immediately

Rubbing alcohol works well and is cheap.
It should also be noted how important it is to shop at stores with a constant source of fresh inventory and even hours can make a difference. I checked out of that Goodwill at1:55p on 6/20/24. I had the Sorel boots in my cart but, put them back because I didn’t like the wear on the soles. I seriously looked at that Nike jacket as well, passed on that too for the reason you pointed out. The Patagonia’s were not there at time. I did come away with 19 very nice items though. Again, timing is everything.
At my local comic shop, common books are 10 for 10 Canadian dollars. Happy to say that's a pretty great re-selling buy.

I lucked out a couple of times from a random person who contacted me on etsy and asked if I want a lot of vintage paper ephemera from her Aunt's house they were cleaning out. I sell vintage paper things and of course I would want that. I paid for shipping, that's all she wanted. I'm still selling off the stuff and it's been about a year now. TFS * L

Really enjoyed seeing something different than the usual in this video! Although it took longer to source items from regular thrift stores, it would be interesting to see if your profits would be higher than bins items! I would imagine your profits would be higher which could make the extra time worth it but not certain
My goal by the end of the year is to be able to pay all my families bills with my income, even though I hope my wife's income does that by itself and then I can use my ebay money for the business and partly my income. My five year goal is to have most of our debt paid off and be working towards paying off our house and somewhere in there before five years take the family on vacation across America, also long term would be getting more subscribers likes, and comments on youtube. ( I enjoy it even if not many people watch it) I like to buy storage lockers, but I think garage sales are where its at, give me a garage sale out in the country, let's buy some vintage stuff and then when I am in town look for the sale in the affluent part of town who has priced her stuff to sell. Not every sale is like that, but usually you get one of those opportunities each day you just have to see it.
Y’all need to make a trip to Ky to the 400 mile yard sale. Lots of good deals 4 days of sales. Always the first weekend in June. They come from everywhere. Love watching your videos

I’ve found alcohol usually helps with sharpie removal. Sometimes it can be stubborn to remove. We have a place nearby that does the same thing.
I live in harlan Kentucky and theres 2 one is a goodwill and they have doubled there prices in 1 year so I don't even go anymore so I have to wait for yard sale season its really sad,thanks for sharing

Thrift shops are so high nowadays. If you can find anything the shops almost have to make mistakes on pricing.
Estate sales & yard sales are pretty good for a lot of resellers. We have some local estate sales that advertise as “perfect for resellers”. I don’t resell but I like to check them out to buy stuff for myself. 😊
Our goodwills by the beach aren’t always fantastic but once I walked into my usual store and immediately found a pair of golden goose sneakers at regular $6. I sold them the same day, 20 minutes after listing them!

My thrift store prices on clothes are out of the question. I have to find obscure items now in order to beat the thrift store. Anything well-known is usually marked up.
I am in Illinois, I don't depend on gw or sa, I buy through auctions, estate sales, flea markets. I sell glass, antique and vintage. So I have no issues getting inventory.
You also need to be able to pivot when your sources change! Just this week a local Amazon Bins Spot store (which is actually part of a chain) abruptly closed their doors permanently. They had only been open for less than 6 months. It was a good store that had a different, unique model (shoe days, clothes days, general merch days) and they stayed busy! I myself had sourced shoes and other good items that turned fairly quickly for me. It was nice to have a source for name brand shoes in New/Like New condition to sell. So they're gone now. But actually, I've curtailed my buying to try to get listed what I already have, and only buy when it's a great deal or a quality item with good return potential. My glut of stuff has allowed me to be more picky, and I'm learning that some of the stuff in my death pile were not good buys, hence being more selective. But then, just tonight I bought a Starbucks mug that looked to be good but my phone was dying so I didn't research long enough. Got home, found out not great sell thru, and not as high comps as what came up just before the phone died. You live, you learn.

Her Universe is a pretty expensive Disney brand. The one you have is a plus size 4x. They often sell the brand at Torrid. But they sell through their own website as well. The brand is owned/run by Ashley Eckstein the actress who did the voice of Ahsoka in the Star Wars cartoons.
Writing this mid video… the Vera bag with the laptop sleeve could have been worth it as a bundle deal. That bag style is typically for carrying a laptop.
Harry resellers are there on worst enemy’s if people didn’t think goodwill don’t watch these channels they are so wrong I was told this weekend that they are getting ready to raise prices again here in Kentucky I would not want my lively hood dependent on goodwill
Here in Cali GW, savers, Salvation Army and many others have a “boutique” area were its high end, collectables and designers item. GW has an on line website too not good for resellers. Even estate sales don’t allow cameras on the premises. Ppl are catching on.

This past Friday, I went to 7 Goodwills. Only found 7 items. One for personal use. 4 out of 7 stores, I found nothing. Drove like 100 miles altogether.
Yeah, I only stop at the one local to my house (like about a mile away). I hate to say it, but videos on youtube probably ruined it for a lot of folks that used them to make money. I'm sure the folks in Goodwill management saw multiple videos, realized they could upcharge their items and just went that route. Even normal thrift stores as well.
Heck, I went to a half priced local book store (not half price bookstore the main business) which claimed to sell books at half price. I get up to the front with one book I was able to find and they wanted full cover price for it.... I went ahead and bought it because it was an older Conan the Barbarian novel, but still...
Here in central California, the thrift shops are tough. You can find stuff, but you pretty much have to catch them slipping. They overprice so much stuff... shoes, clothes, etc they don't have standard prices, they price stuff individually.

I live close to our local Goodwill, but I shop there less and less. I sell a lot of vintage costume jewelry, but it is selling for less than it was a couple of years ago, yet is costing more at GW. I am doing most of my sourcing online, or buying from some friends who do house clearouts.

I am spoiled by my thrift bins, if i don't go right away in the morning, there's NOTHING but junk left, and the bins make normal thrifting hard cause I'm so used to the cheap buy in.

Great thrift always. Well, i think "what not" and posh mark and temu is fine. Goodwill finds profit from reseller. I think the goodwill wants to sell direct to the customers better to increase their profits. Most of those items in goodwill is contribute from ppl who wants to get rid of instead to the land field. Im in asia country even i shop at bundle shops (thrift store)often find good and bad items. They increase the price in few months because there are mostly ship in bundles from china,thailand,india,taiwan,germany,england..etc. Their store price can increase but they will put on sales with discounts if not good sales.👍💯😄
Careful with comic books... plenty out there that are not worth the paper they are printed on. Comic Book shops regularly have 50 cent & $1 bins.
I barely even go to thrit stores these days. I go to the flea market most of the time.
I went to a Mom & Pop thrift today and there was nothing you could profit on. The had Gloves for $4 that were orig $1.49. The fish dish I value at $2. I got a vintage Columbia jacket, but after I washed and dried it, I found a melt hole. Maybe my nephew would like it if his mom can hide the damage. Dang it.
I do not depend on goodwill, because there prices are so high in northern Indiana. I do depend on a local thrift store that uses the proceeds to support Christian charities. I hope that they continue to thrive, because they are my main source of inventory.
They are very high in central and southern Indiana as well! I mean, greedy high!! It makes me so mad…it’s completely outrageous! I agree with you on local thrift shops that benefit local Christian charities. I source from those all the time and am willing to pay up a little to help support their local mission! 👍🏻

With sharpie just use a dry erasers marker and go over it and wipe off. It come right off.
I use that trick many times.

Black sharpie removes easy with rubbing alcohol.
Nail polish remover works.

I know that as a fact. If you would ever have to rely on reselling to stay alive you can do it and I am speaking about survival. Yes it will because everyone needs something it's a wonderful thing to have just a gift. In one's day be kind and never greedy. Buty with your mind and give with your heart and keep some for yourself. Always be kind and I promise you the treasure you seek it's right over there on a dark and dusty shelf it waits on you and no one else yes you will stay alive that's the life of a treasure hunter else

Wish we could shop GW. All the good items are packed up and sent to corporate. There are literally TONS of resellers in Denver metro. Garage sales are almost non-existent. It all depends on your part of the country. South and eastern costal states seem to have more access to inventory.

@palivali64 I have a friend who lives in NYC, and he travels all over to various thrift stores (including mom & pop places) and a flea market. He finds absolutely amazing items (collectibles and high-end jewelry) for unbelievably cheap prices. He also flips them quickly. All cash all the time.
I've still yet to find a good "Bins-Like" liquidation store in Australia. Our main thrifts (Vinnies, Salvation Army) seem to just send their excess into the void SOMEWHERE, but I've never found that part of the supply chain :(
