Nice edit. I been needing to get me a flail for a good 5yrs now. Lol. I only try to spray solid for pre harvest. & I try to minimize roundup to 1-2 applications. Every time it’s sprayed onto ground it basically kills all the beneficial fungi & soil microbes. It also will bind to the P molecules & stay stuck persistent in the soil. Monsanto has done a good job keeping quiet & hiding all these negative response effects from it’s use. consider cover cropping centers fall/winter/spring if possible. My rule of thumb is, Wherever there is bare soil, there is “dead soil”. Take a shovel of bare clean soil & see how many earthworms & beneficials are in that scoop. Take a shovel of cover crop soil & you’ll see 20+ earthworms in that scoop. 🤗
Great Video man! What part of the valley you guys farmin in? I am from the south valley so just lookin for some context if you don’t mind sharing. Hope harvest prep is goin well, we have some early blocks getting ready to shake as early as next weekend. It’s go time!
We are in Oakdale, (Modesto area). Dang you guys are definitely closer to harvest than us up here! We probably won't start harvest until the last week of August.
I just finished picking by hand a dump truck load (tandem Kenworth) of rocks out of the orchard. The rocks will break off the flail mower blades if left out laying in the orchard. Your orchard doesn't look like it is infested with rocks like mine.
I'm going to have to get an orchard tractor since we are putting in almonds this year. We have always used Kubotas in our vineyards, but some people have warned me that they don't have the weight to really pick up the heavy mowers and orchard floats. I notice yours bouncing a little over the bumps, would you recommend Kubota or should I go mainstream with John Deere?
We really like our kubotas! They bounce a little if you are going quick, but we also don't have any water in the tires to add weight. That would eliminate that problem for sure.
California Farmer I’m gonna stick with them then, we’ll put some water in the tires and weights on the front. Do you just have the one tractor for your work? I’m thinking all we need is a mower, float, sprayers
@@kriegerdog6807 Yes just the one specific orchard tractor, but when we do floor work like floating we will bring in one of our other kubotas from our poultry ranch and have two tractors going.
Question - how many times do you mow per year? I assume you own this tractor and flail... is it just one per what size of property? Thanks! And love the video man 🙌🏼
It seems like the mowing raises a lot of dust and increases the risk of dust mites. Would the tree pulp barrier be suitable to place in between tbe tree rows?
It’s more of the constant dust from driving on the roads that increases the risk of dust mites. We only mow a couple of times a year. Not cost effective to put that stuff down the row every year. It cost us about $2,000 to do a 9 ft wide strip about a mile long.
i did the mowing and weedwhacking of the almond orchard. now i would be pulling those nuts that didnt shake off. nothing worse then to be driving by an orchard around December and seeing so many black zombies covering the trees.
Oh yeah...isn't nut grass fun? Clogs up the sprinklers, nuts will get stuck in it, and driving the tractor mowing it, it never seems to cut well. Too thin I guess.
Great job on video lovin your channel.
That opening shot was cool. Lots of good moving ones in there!
Thanks! Yeah my buddy Kodi got some great shots for us!
Nice video. Thanks for sharing
Can you give us a video of how you spray (weed control) tree strips? Btw, love your channel.
How are you?
This channel is fantastic. Can you do the almond pruning video?
I plan on it!
Is there anyway to effectively control weeds/grass in tree strips or is spraying your best option?

Our soil is crawling with earthworms and beneficial microbes! This will be our 1st and only kill spray of the year. Thanks for the support!
ANONYMOUS FARM great point. But how would I get rid of the weeds ? I’m not familiar with other methods.
Great video. How bad does Irrigation hose clog the flail?
The irrigation hose is weaved between the trees and sprinklers and rarely ever enters the row where the mower is, but it does happen.
how do you feel about spraying weed killer before you mow? would mowing after the spray be easier? what would be the pros and cons
They started harvest here in Bakersfield at the beginning of August. As soon as school started. It’s definitely all “amonds” around here now.
We are harvesting in Bakersfield around old river and also in arvin
Ceejay_the_stud, nice! I’m right out there by the BV edible garden, so I’ve prob seen you around. It was gorgeous out there today!
New to farming almonds. I'm in Dixon. You think I could get away with just a flail mower or a float? Or do I need both?
Thanks for growing all the almonds. We like to eat them

Hi Ryan
I have a question, Can you answer me please?
How do you give the fertilizer? Do you apply underground fertilizer? How?
you can fertilize using your irrigation pump thats how I do it

Oh ya it is. I fried it with high concentration of round up a month ago. It worked well.
Love the M5-111. I have m9540 with special cab. It’s not special!!
You should introduce us to the dogs.
Nice to see your almond plant garden,Iam poor farmer of India Arunachal pradesh , plse help me.
The weed-killer usage has got me a little concerned. Surely there must be a better way.
