I just fell out of my easy chair! Ha Ha!
Yepppiiiiiiiii Kiiiiiiaa yae.....
I said it on the EVH guitar demo, and I will say it again: this needs to be N Stuff's standard demo amp. Matt Lucas can play it clean and with his favorite pedals, then go to the other two channels to let us hear whichever guitar interact with tube preamp overdrive.
I think Mr. Ford sold this amp short a bit, but I also know that Marshall's first 25 years gave us a pedal culture which will never die.
Putting your settings on the bottom of the screen are so helpful. I've seen some reviews knocking this amp for it's clean tone, yet, you made it sound great. Good review and great playing!
+David Dunlap Thanks mang! We try!
I just love him rocking that clean channel in the start of the video, so mint 👌🏻
It just goes to show how versatile this amp is!
I love the examples of how you can get some incredible bluesy classic tones. The heavy stuff is great stuff too. Great demo! Really shows the range of the whole thing. Great playing too!
One of the best demos of this amp on YT way better than the factory demos with chris conella. not taking anything away from him just diff. play style.
Man this guy can nail that sound! Great player too!
This dude can play. I have the 50 watt and I'm def going to try out these green channel settings.
I love the take on the clean Channel. After havign the amp for many years, I can say you are correct! Great job!
Damm Ed wrote some beautiful melody.
I've got the 50W Head and I don't know why they didn't put a built in attenuator on the Head version????? They should have a sign hanging on the amp saying, " NO OD pedals needed" LOL
hawg427 You know, when I was filming this video, I thought the same thing. The attenuator had a lot to do with his tone, and I'm surprised it wasn't stock in all the models..
J
i don't think the Heads even have Reverb do they ? I would only get the combo for the power level feature . kind of weird they didn't put it head version .
It’s more than an attenuator. It’s a built in ohmite variac
Was the Blues Driver on the whole time or just near the end?
Channel 1 is great. Crank it up and you get a good ACDC tone.
Great tone. Nailed EVH😀
Have they addressed the volume jump on these? Thanks!!!
Great playing and tone mr.ford!
Behold... the treble-ist trebbly amp to ever screech through a mix. Slayer of thick, smooth and full notes. Brace thy eardrums. Why can't Mesa and EVH get together? Now that would be the ultimate amp. Mesa thickness and no need to hassle with biasing tubes. And the upper midrange crunch of EVH. Now that would be the ultimate amp!
Have narrowed it down between this amp and the Engl Screamer 50. Both are similar priced and tonal abilities (very JCM800-ish). The Engl is more handsome and robust in design, but the EVH has a headphone jack (might be the clincher). Was also considering the 6505+, but with also playing acou/elec, I need a good clean channel as well...so the Peavey is out.
i own a variety of amps for a variety of genres of music i play. This amp is killer,it is very versatile. If you have a great ear for tone, this amp can achieve some crazy tones........guess what? you don't have to go full out...try one out they kick ass
As I stated in a comment below I have only played the 2x12 and am in love with it. I WILL be buying one soon! I've asked this on other pages and never got an answer so I'll try here too. Now the 2x12 is a big combo and I think 84 lbs! That does take away some of the portability. Not only some 20 pounds heavier then the 1 x 12, but obviously larger in size as well. So my question is if there is much of a noticeable difference in tone between the 2x12 and 1x12? Yes I know about pushing more air with the 2 x 12 but how much difference tone wise is there really between the two? By the way plugged in a Catalinbread Sabbra Cadabra and Talisman on channel one and insta Sabbath tone with it too! It really does take to pedals in a great way. Thanks for the great review and any help in answering my question would be much appreciated!
Why would they make an amp that sounds this good and cost so much and have a hiss in it why not put some kind of switch on it to take that hiss out?
Is he a new reviewer? I love his playing style!
No he's been there awhile. Ford Thurston.
I have the 5150 iii and have yet to find a video of anyone running a fuzz on it. Wish I knew how well it took fuzz before I bought a pedal.
Hey, great demo! QUESTIONS: I played the 50 watt head and it is way too loud and too much noise/hiss. By this amp having the built in hot plate, channel one and two is pretty quiet? I am more he early EVH tone, with maybe a slight be more gain. But I would Never use channel 3. Would I be happy with this amp in your opinion? I hate an amp having too much hiss. Thank you for your help :)
whats the diference bettween the black to the white one?
I love this kind of player !
Sounds Great!!!! Can I play this amp at lower volumes? I live in an apartment and just curious how loud it has to be... sounds amazing!!!
It says it goes down to 1 watt. We live an apt too. I have to play quietly too.
If you haven't already purchased the amp, go ahead and get it, you won't be disappointed, you can play at lower volumes, sure, it's loud, but it won't wake up the neighbors if you keep it under control.
Man the tone is razor sharp, move the mic a little bit... !
U know what this is actually not that ice picky for him. He usually plays way more trebly.
Erik Ceman I mic every amp that we demo in the same fashion, where the dust cap meets the cone. I do agree that the tone was a bit trebly, but that's how Ford sets his amps for the most part.. Thanks for the feedback!
I don't mind it. I like a cutting tone. It would especially help in a band mix. You would really stand out. After all. That was how Eddie's original tone was. Listen to an isolated track. It's crazy bright.
Got the Evh 5150 iii s el34 50 combo amp just looking for some suggestions on setting up eq for the best sound
I’ve got a 5150iii lunchbox stealth and I max the bass, mid and treble and put a boss ge7 equalizer in the effects loop and put the amp on the red channel with the gain slightly above the 9 o’clock mark and run a tube screamer mini with no gain from the pedal to push the amp and it sounds like a cranked plexi from the early 80’s! Also, I max the resonance and put the presence on half. Give it a try
Great amp, but it gets WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more overdrive than I can ever use. I tend to use Fenders with a fuzz box, get a perfect tone.
No doubt this amp RIPS like a Marshall Plexi on Steroids!!!
But-I would have preferred that it also be available in a smaller ' Club ' Model:
Around 25W (with wattage selector/attenuator); Just Two Channels; True Clean & Overdrive, that SHARE the EQ, Reverb, available with 1x10, or 2x8 Speakers (perhaps plus a bass radiator/woofer).
That's how I would have done it...
What was that first song before 5150
Women in love
GREAT!!
i have heard that combo have more gain than the head..its true????
Yes the combo does have more gain then the head and more gain then you'll probably ever need. Owning a Lee Jackson XLS 1000 I know about having more gain then you'll ever need lol Also the nice thing about the combo over the head is the combo has the power output adjustment that will go from the full 50 watts down to 1 watt. So it's great for both gigs and the bedroom and not pissing off the neighbors! As far as I know the head doesn't have that. I've only played the 2 x 12 and that's brings up a question for N Stuff I'll ask above.
MrNitrocat
great...
the only reason for me to buy the head its the look:)
btw you mean the 2x12 or 1x12 combo?
Sorry it took forever to reply...2x12 combo. Still haven't played the 1x12 so still don't know if there's much difference between the 2x12 and 1x12...If I can ever find a local place that has the 1x12 I'll check it and let you know :)
What pickups are you using? Sounds fantastic!
My dream amp is the Soldano SLO 100, but I'm thinking about getting one of these because I live in an apartment and saving 4 grand would also be nice. Would that be a good decision and can this amp get a good approximation of the SLO? It doesn't need to be exact, but in the same ball park.
I'm thinking to get this amp also. It has all the features I want. Just is incredible heavy. Another combo for apartment might be Engl RockMaster.
One bad thing about this amp is that the channel 1 and 2 share the same volume. You can't jump from clean to channel 2 because of the volume difference so you are constrained to use clean 1 and channel 3.
If a soldano slo 100 is what you are after get a peavey 5150. It is a soldano clone. What a video by Sargent Thump on UA-cam comparing the slo and the 5150. So similar you will be shocked. I will never sell my 5150ii. It is more soldano like then the newer fender stuff although they are awesome as well. I own the 5150ii, the new 5150iii 50watt 1x12 combo and the 5150iii 50watt el34 head. They are all different and awesome but when you plug into the 5150ii it is magic.
What is the mic running thru?
Full bug in the beginning
great demo of a sub par amp.. sounds awesome but just not for the classic vh fans
Single 12 is always to tini U need 2x12
Good demo, however im not gonna spend $1300 on an amp and run a $99 boss pedal into it.
Just want to warn everybody i got the same amp in nov 2017 ,and everything was awesome but the gain and blue channel will die hard, my red channel sounds good but my setting's never get this much sound with it that low and using charvel tb-4 pickup's
Great playing, but for an amp that calls itself an Van Halen amp, the tone sounds nothing like classic Van Halen. If the amp is buzzing and humming at bedroom levels then something can't be right. No thanks
+Gavin Badcock "calls itself"
Considering it's made by Eddie himself to reflect his NEWER sound........
idk what you're trying to get at m8. You want classic Van Halen, get a modded Plexi like him.
+Gavin Badcock That's true. It doesn't sound like the marshall. Too much gain and a metallic tone.
Whatt da fk...... That's a disgrace to add od pedals to evh amp that's 1 of the top amps. I buy amps to play without od pedals. It don't matter what amp u use if you use pedals.
That DOES NOT get the sound of the early Van Halen Marshall Sound!!
Who cares...that wasn't was Ed was going for with this amp.He hated his old tone....all that b.s he had to go thru to get the gain he wanted. He had to have the cab in another room while recording because it was so loud just to get almost the tone he was chasing. As a player,do you want to play and or create music at a reasonable volume or play an out of control amp that's so loud your fighting it all day?!?
Absolutely correct. It sounds like like pretty much every other buzz sounding modern shit amp out there.
Noise😟
Ugh, sounds more like VH on bad LSD... Overly saturated. Very very muddy. Tasteless.
Yet another guy who cant even spell Rhythm !
+Mikael Andersson This isn't a spelling video.
N Stuff Music And yes !
You're an idiot too !
+Mikael Andersson Sounds like you put a lot of time into that comment too.. What else do you have for us?
are you joking? you didn't spell it correctly.
