10 years later and it still looks brand new. Incredible styling. 10 years ago many cars looked really tired and boring looking, but this car still looks incredibly stylish and modern.

Go for it mate, you only live once, many years ago I wanted a Jaguar XKR, even though I was driving 130 miles a day,
I got it, LOVED IT, then realised I was a prick. I would never change it, my first Jaguar, a beast.......BUT A GOOD MEMORY.............Currently on my 3rd Jaguar with an XFS.........love it!

I love the fact you do reviews of cars that are in your stock and yet still 100% transparent about the issues and negative parts of the car. Saw this in your stock and it did get me thinking about taking a closer look. But others comments, not yours have got me thinking about how well maintained it has been by previous owner.

Thanks Matt for an informative insight into the 7 series. BMW were renowned in the past to be tight on standard equipment, but it is still surprising that they still do it with their Luxo Barge.

I’ve had my 2014 730d for 18 months now and still absolutely love it. Yes it as not been trouble free, air suspension struts had to be replaced with genuine BMW ones at £1300.00 each, servicing at specialist is reasonable, run flat tyres are a bit steep at £200.00 a corner but all worth it for such a fantastic driving machine. Mine’s missing a few options being a standard SE model but does have the head up display and 19” rims which look a lot better than the standard 18s.

Thank you for the long awaited review (7 series). I owned an year 2000 E38 (735 iL), my 1st ever car, most beautiful looking 7 series. Yes, expensive to keep, agree with you on that. That is why my 2nd car was Japanese (Mitsubishi Pajero) in UAE, Shogun in UK. All the cars and SUVs are petrol in the Gulf. I love 2nd hand luxury cars, quiet a bargain but again it’s a pain to park at public places here.

I think most cars in this class look slightly ungainly. I love the interior though although yes it is a bit tight on the toys. The big selling points for these cars for me is comfort and refinement and on that score it seems to excel 👍🏻

Totally agree on your comment relating to ‘low mileage shouldn’t return failing injectors’ for example, but -and this doesn’t discriminate by brand-, it’s all dependent on how the previous owner(s) maintained them. Maintenance records a must.

All the F01's and F02's, 740's and 750;s I know of are loaded with "tons of features", he only named or guessed a few that were in his 730d. He is not to be taken seriously and knowledgeable as a person who really knows BMW's, or has been a consistent owner of one or more. The 740,s and 750,s, they have soft closing doors, keyless entry, heated and cooled seats, seats have a ton of features, car has power rear and side window shades, Rear AC/Heat controls and a separate rear console mounted DVD unit with two very nice screens mounted on the back of the front seats, DVD remote control(s,) IR headphones, a badass sound system, iDrive system has tons of features like, Navigation, radio, split screen, vehicle system check, and diagnostics, separate DVD in dash, 6 DVD changer above the glove box, radio, Iphone and android adaptable. Heads up display, Night Vision, Road Radar, Active Lane Change, Back up Camera, all around car displayed visual camera system, power fold in mirrors. Adaptive Head lights, Twin Turbo, 400 to a lot of ,+ Horses, Comfort, Normal, Sport and Sport + driving Modes, All Wheel Drive, Beautiful interior, Massage Seats, Moon Roof, just to name a "few features" and this is why "You Should Buy a 7 Series", Not to mention you're gonna look good getting to where your going. And can outrun and out handle 90% of what's on the highway LOL!!!

I have one of these - same 61 plate. I agree with everything said here. I makes you feel very special and has huge road presence. I would feel happy any day to start it up and drive to the south of France! The power just keeps on coming, and Just feels indestructible- but of course it is not ! I had an oil leak from the gearbox as the two seals either side of the box were leaking - cost a few pounds each, but by the time the box was drained, new oil fitted, filters changed (both of them) the bill came to £600 so you need to keep a grand set aside for unforeseen costs. You must get one with a full service record from a main dealer or specialist garage. Mine has heads up display (which is excellent), soft close doors, and screens in the back with Bluetooth headphones so the kids can watch their DVDs with the headphones on - bliss! So make sure you get one with the options you want. Mine has done 110,000 and feels almost like new. Some of these have done 200,000 miles!

I am starting to see a few more of these since they are getting cheaper but I am impressed by the mpg. Obviously repair bills are what puts people off with cars of this class. Problem with Birmingham now is a car has to be euro 6 diesel not to get charged to get into Birmingham city centre thanks to the new congestion charge

Thanks for doing that as requested. In the meantime though I've bought a pampered 635d loaded with options. It's fantastic, love it but then I did have to get a new rear foglight and it cost £200, Higher spec BMW'S are not cheap to run but as long as you are careful the depreciation will get you into a fantastic car. I could have bought a much newer Ford Focus or similar but then I would be bored to death.

I have even keyless entry. Cruise control with distance keeping and lane steering assist to keep you in lane. Mine is kinda fully loaded. You just found one with no extras thats why it makes you feeling that way like is nothing special. I mean you bought one without any extras. And the 740d looks amazing because you have the exhaust on both sites and they look gorgeous. I’m happy with mine. I have a 2009 730d and I have to say I fell in love with it. Comfort, safety, space...... but as you said.. some parts are expensive. Servicing every 10k km is seemingly vital and with a good oil. They are also prone to EGR/DPF problems. The boot not staying up is a common problem and is generally the spring has come off its holder. A lot of car for the money but the tax here in Ireland is the killer at €1200 per year on pre 2010 models.

Great video Matt, I had a facelifted 2013 730d m sport which I bought in 2019 with 45k miles. Despite a FDSH, I had numerous niggles with mine including air suspension, e-handbrake and washer jets(!), all costly to sort out (as were new brakes and tyres like you said!). When lockdown came, I barely used it as my job became remote-based, i went from doing 15k per year to 1k. It wasn't too happy about being left on my drive, very complicated and 'boinged' a lot. I am a BMW fan boy (owning several 3 and 5 series) and still have a Z4 'toy', but I didn't have the best experience with the F01 so sold it this year (at 60k) and bought your favourite car... a mk5 2008 golf gti-simple, reliable & fun runabout!
With the left over money from the sale, i plan to upgrade the wife's SUV for a larger one... would be keen for you to review a 2016 onwards VW Touareg R Line Plus 😉

Greetings from Scotland! Just step up to the next model and go for the 740d G11. If there are any (serious) faults with this model I haven't found them in the last few years! A bulletproof 3.0L inline 6 with a twin scroll turbo puts out a whopping 235kW - 315bhp - 320hp with 680Nm, 502 ft-lb of torque! Enough to tow start a Jumbo jet! Huge power which hits 60mph in 5 seconds and has no problem shaking hands with the speed limiter at 155mph. 8-speed auto box makes a super smooth progression through the gears. Interior is super comfy that makes really long journeys a dawdle too! The standard spec is ridiculously good with everything and a lot more at your fingertips! I know, I sound like I love it - because I do! Every time I drive it, I smile! I make excuses to take it anywhere I can! I get an average of 42mpg and I don't drive it gently! On a long motorway journey it often averages mid 50's mpg which for a beast is pretty impressive and it's also ULEZ! My MOT emissions test is so low it's almost fresh air! Oh and speaking of MOT's - it's had 4 yearly MOT's all without previous work and aced every one! Yes, nearly 7 years old and not one issue! Poor reliability/high service costs/expensive repairs - Not something I can speak about, because I haven't experienced any of them. Fully dealer serviced from day one and no complaints about charges. Am I rich - nope, I'm a pensioner who travels a LOT! I often spend a month travelling around Europe with it - why? Because it's cheaper and less hassle than aeroplanes! Seriously, what are you waiting for? Go get a palace on wheels and have some fun! 😂😂

Try it in sport mode, even my quite blunt and chunky X3 30d will shove you into your seat for a bit (you can feel your organs move a bit from a standing start), and goes from a bit ponderous to really aggressive. The relentless acceleration is bang on though, the six pot diesels are absolutely fantastic and sound rather nice too. Brilliant gearbox too, almost always in in the right gear. Envious of your 48mpg!

Lovely car and quick after a remap- 2010 730d M Sport. Doesn't feel as large as it is. Parking in the UK can be tricky, but you've just got to raise your game 😁. Mine has the 19" alloys which look decent but has probably ruined the ride somewhat...you really feel and cringe at every pothole.
I may have been unlucky, but this thing has been a real money pit, and has picked up a few electrical issues which are going to make it hard to sell.

This has been the most reliable car I’ve owned. Put 100,000 miles on it in about 3 years and has cost maybe 2000-3000 gbp in repairs / regular maintenance. Engine and transmission still very healthy at 250k miles

In 100,000 miles I only had to change a water pump that's bearing went. That was a 30 minute job. Take a VW golf now. If the water pump fails it is driven on the timing belt and is a 4 hour job because you also have to take off engine mountings that are fixed to the engine inside the belt. I drive a Toyota Hilux diesel now and it is basically just oil and oil filter changes and air filter every other year.

I have owned a 730ld 61 plate since 2015. It had 20,000 miles on the clock when I bought it. It now has 250,000 on it and still runs flawlessly. I’ve changed the consumables and battery and alternator but that’s it. I service it when it needs doing, with parts I source myself, relatively cheaply, and a good mechanic to do the work. Mine has more gadgets than I need. Heads up display, comfort seats, rear entertainment pack plus a lot more. Buy a good one, look after it and you will never want another car.

The other funny thing is that it's from the same era as the BMW's (Late 2000's) and has all the same features and settings in the controls, cabin and electronics that the BMWs do and then some - except without the fear the dash will "Boing" with an error if not driven for a week.

He just shrugged his shoulders and said it's a BMW. I bought a 6-year-old Mazda 626 diesel instead for £1700 with 125.000 miles. I went all over the UK and Europe with it - it was flawless. I knew I could trust it to get me back home without needing any visits to garages in foreign lands. Eventually, parts of it rusted to dust because the previous owner lived right by the sea and the salt got to it. I've now owned a 10-year-old Yaris for 6 years, it too is flawless.

Many of these were used by limousine companies and for-hire drivers, so the specifications were often lacking in the optional extras department and they have quite high mileage. Though they’re relatively cheap to buy second-hand with all the massive depreciation, they’ll cost a LOT to maintain.

    • @flam7469
      @flam7469 Рік тому +3

That is something to keep in mind. The one I bought a few months ago has 125k km on it, was most likely owned by a for-hire driver, and I'm at least the 3rd owner. While that sounds pretty terrible, 730d's are super rare here, so someone really really wanted one. I had it professionally inspected before buying and was told it was mechanically perfect. Remember though, that with these diesels, over 100k km you must change the timing chain, which involves dropping the engine and the transmission. That's why you see a lot of diesels being sold with around 100k km. I knew what I was getting into though and had a mechanic lined up and did the timing chain swap, replaced all the seals, filters, gaskets, hoses and rewrapped some of the wiring. So tack on another 5-10k to the price. Once that was done though, that car is great and can go another 100k km without needing a new timing chain (and more gaskets, etc). On the plus side, these straight 6 engines can easily last way over 300k km.
