Where some see a bad race i only see good birds. I don't care for birds that only perform on easy races. Give me a tough race where birds have to think and fight to keep flying forward. Those kind of birds earn a perch in my loft.
I agree, but this was a crucible. Even good birds were lost this weekend. These that came back will make outstanding OB's! I have 11 birds left for the season and 2 are semi hurt! It's pigeon racing...
I agree this was not let’s find the best birds race . Very good fanciers in my club lost 50% of their birds we already getting calls for lost birds from different states mostly southern the birds just flew with the strong northern wind down south I believe it was not a good liberation timing at 9:00 am .
@@StratosLoft you have been racing birds for a few years now and I’m sure you have noticed that every year you might have 1-3 really good birds, the rest are just homing pigeons. When I have a smash race I always ask myself why did these birds find home and not the others! I don’t race old birds so for me if I only have 1 bird left at the end of the season I’m just as happy. It’s not fun to loose birds but we have to realize they aren’t all good. Even the best birds breed bad babies. And even the top fliers have bad seasons. Hope you guys get a few more back, it’s nice to have a strong team to continue with.
@@MaydisLoft sounds like you have 11 really good birds. I don’t race old bird so if I loose them all it saves me the headache of having to find homes for them or cull them. I don’t mean to sound insensitive but ask yourself why did these 11 make it and not the others? I don’t like loosing birds either but the fact is they aren’t all good. Hope you get a few more home. It’s nice to have a strong team
@@AdrianP_loft I agree all of the above my friend just piss me of that this birds that is not here is just almost proving birds they went many mix tosses and races I already lost the bad ones we always loose the crappy ones but I’m just disappointed of the way they conducting the races that is all .
Ok Silvio let’s look at your four races that was low on returns BC the birds was liberated at almost clear weather but they encounter drizzle soon after . CJC combine was liberated at 9 am and the Peterson sprint at 9:30 am it was a severe weather alert from the weather channel for dense fog advisory until 10:00 am . I’m just don’t want to blame no one I’m just looking at the weather forecast for that morning. You maybe correct not pointing the finger to nobody but what the heck happened. I lost half of my team I never had this bad of returns in nine years . I’m still waiting for more bids I hope I get some tomorrow Tuesday. I hope you get some more of your birds back . As of the 350 m waffle race i don’t know I did not look at the weather at that location. Take care .
Congrats to everybody who picked a winning bird and congrats on your Club win and 15th WTC placing.. Yeah, it was a very tough weekend for racing that's for sure.☹
But why are you racing this late in the seazon ?That's a question i asked a lot of pigeon racers in the US and Canada .Here in Belgium we start the old birds in April and the young birds at the end of May .The biggest races are in Juin and July and very often we have heat waves ,i'm talking 100 to 110 degrees .We have also losses but not the number you're having .We are not allowed by the government to release pigeons in rain and fog and to me that's a good thing because i don't want to watch birds coming home all day long from a short distance of 250 miles .Another thing you should concider is the feeding ,do you feed heavy or light ?Do you give grit to your pigeons ?Pigeons with overweight are the first ones to give up ,keep that in mind .I wish you all the best and i hope you don't give up .

Regarding the timing for YB... we can only begin breeding to put bands on the birds in January so May the birds aren't mature enough too train and be ready for the racing season. And it's hard to train in the winter with the cold and the birds of prey. Maybe it's not so bad over in Europe. But your Young birds must be very young then. Regarding the feed, I don't give grit 2 days before a race and I try to have them as light as possible. It's not normally this bad, this weekend was an exception.
@@MaydisLoft The young birds are 4 a 5 months old when we start but birds of prey we don't have so much,specialy now a lot of them died of the bird flue .But the big difference is the fact that we're not allowed to release in bad weather ,i also don't think you select the best birds when they're released in this conditions .Also the fact that we have proffesional racers and semi proffesionals plays a big role in the release of the birds .But on a race of 250 miles the prices are done within half an hour .That's because only 33 % has price and are on the result list .Good luck and stay strong ,it will get better .
Very well analyzed Silvio! Very objective! There was a photo on Benzing for Brooklyn Classic. The liberation site was fine and you can see the sun rising, but there was some fog in the valley. We had about a week of rainy weather and it was not surprising that the fog was everywhere when the sun came out and the temperature was higher. Nobody knows what the conditions were along the race course. Nobody wants to lose birds. However, that's part of pigeon racing, take it or leave it. Good luck for the remaining races!
Agreed I like his analysis. And his open mindedness if that's a word. I have my speculations. Clear days with no clouds have been known for smash races.. Heavy fog... North wind.. solar storms? Well never know. They had 2 races to release and had to release early to keep them apart.
@@ThundercatLoft.. This is exactly why Steve held back the 1702 hen, for chances of this kind of thing happening. He made a very good decision to retire her early. He probably would have lost her on this race, but now she's safe and sound in the loft, because of that decision to do so.
@ausfuhrpramienjagar I held birds back for this race as well. But I still wouldn't retire a bird for 150 mile race. Our training truck goes to 150 miles. Not going to retire a bird over a training toss. But to each his own. So for the last time I respectfully disgree.

If you think about it... 1st year breeding and racing, not enough breeders, knowing the parents bloodlines and having this bird do good and his best, it is totally the right call. Had it been 2 or 3 years later he wouldn't consider retiring her either at this point.
@@MaydisLoft If he's worried about breeders keep whatevers left end of the year. He still has the parents and can breed more of the same next year. Just my opinion. But I guess if it's a big win and wants to keep her for sentimental reasons I get it.
There's no fair competition in these races. The birds that come home are all soldiers but can't be judged in speed performance as in a more normal race!

the majority of countries that races pigeon takes videos of the release
No reason for any race not to have video of the release, especially special money races, wish my combine made this a requirement
