There's a deleted scene where Jack and Beckett are having a conversation. Jack was employed by Beckett to transport a ship full of slaves, but Jack instead smuggled them out and liberated them. Beckett says he lost a lot of valuable cargo and Jack replies with "people aren't cargo, mate." Shame the scene got deleted. It added a lot of depth to their characters and relationship.

Lord Beckett’s goal is the eradication of piracy in the new world because pirates have disrupted so much trade and commerce for the East India Company. Literally the whole motivation is profit and the lengths he goes to to draw out the last remnants of pirates is actually incredible.

You could honestly start with "gets rescued by Elizabeth Swan" or "gets a medallion from his father as a gift" because they influenced him making swords, meeting Jack, loving Elizabeth, and getting involved in the first movie, plus his dad in the second and third movies.
personally elizabeth had such a huge influence in my childhood because of her change from a "proper lady" to the literal king of pirates (not "queen!"), and still getting to choose what she wanted to do after that :')

World's End is a great finale for Will and Elizabeth's story. Pirate Queen Swan forever! The focus on them at the end makes it feel like the trilogy is theirs, while Jack seems like an ascended side character running amok through someone else's movies.
For me it’s always been the 3 way dynamic between them that made the trilogy so great, the side characters were also great, all of them together and then put in a enigmatic villain and viola you’ve got yourself a cinematic masterpiece for the ages. The 4th movie was odd cause of not having Will, Elizabeth and the dynamic they had with Jack, also cause of the Black pearls crew not being in it, the 5th was a little bit on the way back to what it was in the trilogy with hints of Will and Elizabeth and the parts they played being taken on by their son and Babossas daughter this time around, the villain needed more work though.
There’s a deleted scene between Jack and Beckett that explains their history together and actually connects to why Jack is in debt to Davy Jones. Definitely worth watching. If you want the quick recap lol, it’s when they are negotiating in Beckett’s office and Beckett asks about the Brethren Court. Beckett noticing the Black Pearl is still afloat after HE set it on fire years ago. He did so because he had contracted Jack before he was a pirate to transport a certain cargo, that was actually slaves. Jack freed them and Beckett burned the Black Pearl as a result (named The Wicked Wench before, Black Pearl after it was burned). Jack makes a deal with Davy to save the Pearl and in turn, was in debt 100 souls. I’m sure I missed a few minor details ppl will likely fill in lol
Only minor detail you missed I'd like to share is that Davy made Jack's debt 100 souls because that's how many slaves he freed, and Davy basically told Jack he can't have his cake and eat it, too(saving 100 souls and having his ship).
*You should look up Pirates of The Caribbean with lightsabers.* It's the final battle of this movie but all the characters have lightsabers instead of swords and it's so damn funny to watch.
Honestly Elizabeth, Will and Barbosa's character development throughout the franchise is quite amazing, Norrington is an underrated character and Beckett an underrated villian. Not to mention this movie ends Will and Elizabeth's story quite given this franchise actually started with these two. Barbosa's arc also ends well with 5th movie so I'll say do watch them. Personally I feel it would be great as a trilogy but though other 2 movies aren't as great as first one but they're fine individually.
Davy Jones' Locker is pretty much hell for any sailor and those who are trapped in it are subjected to living their worst nightmare over and over and over again. Jack is stranded on an endless desert with copies of himself because he loves the ocean and being the only Captain Jack Sparrow in the world, so that explains that trippy scene
16:13 Fashion student here! If anyone is curious as to what a 'codpiece' is, it was kind of an early European renaissance-era jockstrap. They were present in metal form on full-plated armour, but that's not where they first showed up. A codpiece was initially a pouch worn on the outside of clothing as men's shirt hem styles rose above the crotch, it was meant for modesty & not necessarily protection....at first. The nobility started commissioning them to be heavily decorated to draw attention and they got increasingly & fashionably....larger.....as they got more starched and stuffed lol. (Googling images for codpieces is hysterical!) The non-nobility classes of the time made fun of the trend incessantly as well. They had fallen out of style by the setting of the PotC franchise tho, the "Golden Age of Piracy", which was roughly the 1650's to 1730's. Still, Jack calling Will a codpiece is basically calling him a pretty (yet yeasty) imitation of manhood. Solid burn!
The reason they don't show the reunion/meeting at the end is because it allows for each viewer to imagine their own version of a "perfect" scene. It also makes the movie ending the beginning of an imagined future for the characters.
I was mostly lost watching this in theaters bt watching as an adult it's easier to follow what's going on. Trust me, I was sad/mad when I first watched the ending cause Elizabeth and Will went through so much to get stuck with that arrangement was heartbreaking. Anyway, I cant wait for the next reaction!

I completely agree, On Stranger Tides was only disappointing to me because I wanted more of Elisabeth. Will didn't need to make a reappearance but I really wanted the King of Pirates to be present (unless she revoked her title off-screen?) I still enjoyed it nonetheless. Dead Men Tell No Tales had a very weak villain. I get what they were going for, but it didn't feel the same as the original trilogy.
I find the lack of emotion kinda fitting because he literally is a heartless fucker. So his lack of expression or tone makes sense. Plus his reaction to the Black Pearl and Flying Dutchman coming towards him was literally the best reaction to see him in.

No, it wasn’t established before that Tia Dalma was Calypso “How is this scene in a Disney movie?” You do remember a child got hung in the beginning, right?

@@Zero.31 I'll remain a little vague to avoid spoilers: The big thing is they treated him like a fool. He's always ended up in ridiculous situations, but either through genius improv or legit planning he always managed to find a solution. In the 5th he still ended up in those situations, but he just got lucky in the way that he just kind of...made it through. More of a stupid fool than a clever fool. I think the goal was to show him getting older, getting drunk, and kind of losing his edge, but the story didn't do a good job of showing that descent, exploring his failures, and instead we got a rushed version that made him a punchline. They also changed the backstory of the compass, which was just a stupid plot hole. In addition to that, they shoe-horned some other big characters in and didn't do justice to their story, while also creating a terrible villain that could have been legit frightening but made him more of a joke. The story of the 5th really should have been fleshed out over two films, but they rushed it. I'd love a 6th to right the wrongs and end the franchise on a good note, but I don't trust them to do that at this point.
To me, this movie is one of the best conclusions to a series/trilogy. They wrapped up all the stories beautifully, had an amazing soundtrack and overall, just created an amazing story!! Also, I don't know if anyone else realized this, but the first time we see Elizabeth in the first movie, she's a young girl singing Hoist the Colors. And then the first time we see her in this movie (the conclusion), she is once again singing Hoist the Colors, all grown up and a pirate. I just love the callback! :)
Young Elizabeth at the beginning of the first movie sang Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me), not Hoist the Colors. Hoist the Colors wasn't even composed by Hans Zimmer until the third movie. So there's no callback. Sorry.
The fourth one is worth watching if only for the fact that Vernon Dursley has a role and it's really funny. Also mermaids and Penelope Cruz. It's a fun time.
I think part of the reason the fourth movie seems so eh is because it's not tied to the first three movies other than Jack's presence. But I think as a standalone film, it's pretty fun. And the soundtrack is actually pretty great! Different vibe but still amazing.
Fun fact: the Actor who plays Jack Sparrow’s dad, is Johnny Depp’s idol so You can only imagine How Happy he was to act alongside his idol in this movie 😊
you're going to have to go back and re watch this movie cause all the questions you have that you were lost on have been answered early on with subtle hints for you to piece together as sense come full circle in the movie . like the whole calypso plot line, her dad getting killed . etc
I will always remember that the home media release of this film came with an FAQ booklet to try & explain the plot points because nobody could understand what the fuck had happened during the movie.
By no means are the next two films “good” by the standards of the main trilogy, but On Stranger Tides and Dead Man Tell No Tales are worth at least seeing once. I don’t think the fourth is that bad personally. But definitely a different vibe.
That’s what I hate now, the fact that people only will call out the song as the “Tiktok song 🤪” and that when it’s used in Tiktoks, it’s not even a scary ass song, it’s just a pirate song lmao
At World's End is my favorite. It was originally the final film in the franchise. The Pirates Trilogy is amazing. I love Elizabeth's journey from being a young girl obsessed with pirates to an actual pirate king. The ending to me is touching. The series began with a young Elizabeth singing about pirates and ends with her son singing the same song. The trilogy is really Elizabeth's story. The next two films after are not as good in my opinion. But they do continue exploring the world of pirates.
Effectively 4 and 5 are more "Jack Sparrow and the Quest for Immortality". They are episodic and self contained. I'd say skip 4 for now and watch 5. Then come back and watch 4. You'll miss a few things but not much.
Not so sure if I would personally agree with this. I actually like that we get a bit of a break and more of a look into jack's backstory in the 4th one. We also get some development for barbossa's character. Also the godess herself penelope cruz is in it. Sure she won't miss much, but it would explain Jack's character and behaviour in the 5th, since it's such a wild turnaround from when we leave off in the 3rd
I pretty much called all the major plot points after the second movie. I had a suspicion that to stab the heart would be have to Captain the ship. They mentioned that the ship needs a captain in the second one. Which is why people aren’t just stabbing his heart constantly. I called Will doing it and becoming captain. I pretty much called all of it, I just didn’t know certain points such as Tia Dalmatia being Calypso I did call her being Jones love. She has the same locker he does and it’s where the hidden Mickey ears are in the second movie. It’s been so long I’ve forgotten the differences between what I called and what was different in the movie. I do remember being at the mid night releases (dressed as Jack Sparrow no less!) Looking at all my friends who said I was wrong and they all are like, “Ok you were right!!!” I love all the movies At Worlds End may be my favorite I think.
When they sing “hoist the colors”, the act of hoisting a ship’s colors means to raise the battle flag. A similar saying “mail the colors to the mast” means literally to nail the colors to the mast so they cannot be lowered, as lowering a battle flag was a symbol of surrender.
I usually skip the fourth movie when I'm rewatching, but you should watch it, if only to have seen it once. And maybe you'll like it, who knows? No judgement here. The fifth movie I'd rank better than the fourth movie, though it doesn't live up to the trilogy. But it does tie in more than the fourth, which is more of a standalone. I'll give you a hint: one of the characters in the fifth movie is a young man named Henry Turner...
There's way too many narrative errors in 5. I liked Salazar as a villain and some scenes, but the plot is horrendous and Jack's witty dialogue seems really watered down. It breaks so many rules of the earlier films that really they become pretty void.
wow, I love part 4... I guess it's the fans of Elizabeth and Will who don't like it?! because they weren't that important to me in part 1-3 I didn't really care that they weren't in part 4 at all...
BTW a Piece of eight it's Just a Coin. A piece of currency that was in use in the area back then. Portugal coined a series of euros with the piece of eight embeded on One side few years ago
Beckett was lowkey the best villian in my mind. I love that he’s emotionless, and the fact that he wasn’t even mad at losing- he got that they outsmarted him, just good business man
I just noticed this, in that scene where Will and Elizabeth are having that conversation below deck on the Chinese ship they got from Singapore on the way to Davy Jones' Locker at night, during that whole thing, you can hear the lullaby from the musical locket that we associate with Davy Jones. However, it's not just background music in the soundtrack, it's the twin locket that Tia Dalma AKA Calypso carries with her, as well. She's listening to it, above deck, probably staring out at the sea. It's a subtle clue before we know who she really is. You only really notice it if you go back and rewatch the movie at least three or four times looking for clues afterwards like I do. I love Easter eggs in movies, and I love looking for them.
I don't know if you noticed, but when Jack said to Will "Maybe you should lock your heart away" that was foreshadowing. I don't know if he's planned this since his talk with the other guy, if it was subconsciously decided, or a spur in the moment.
One of the things people dont realise when Sao Feng is threatening Will to basically intimidate Elizabeth and Barbossa to admit that hes with them...is hes pretty much threatening to carve Will's face off. The mo ya kno.
Something that was pointed out. The sword that Will made for Norrington was given back to Norrington by Beckett, then Norrington stabbed Jones with his final breath and Jones kept it. Then Jones stabs Will with the same blade he originally made.

Hello Stephanie! Re: on the start of the movie, that was the British declaring Martial Law in the Caribbean. All those nice little laws protecting civil rights go out the door. Lived thru one decade Long Martial law and a dictatorship, believe me, it isn't fun!
I personally like the 4th and 5th movies. I feel like you should watch them, even if you don't find them as good, seeing Johnny Depp as Jack is always worthy in my opinion!
The 4th movie was actually the first pirates movie I saw, and I definitely preferred doing 4 and then watching the first three, cuz i didn’t have the same feeling a lot of people had about the 4th movie being a let down.

So... if you wanted to, you can skip the next sequel but the final one does tie in better to the trilogy, with Will and Elizabeth's son as the protagonist.
I recommend that you continue watching the two remaining movies of Pirates of the Caribean franchise, althought Will and Elisabeth no longer appear, except in the final scene of the last movie, but all movies of the franchise are very funny, you won't be dissapointed.
I was upset by the ending with the first viewing on opening day fifteen years ago, but then I went on to see it five times in theaters, so I obviously changed my mind. I also didn't stay for the post-credits scene the first time, but it doesn't need to be longer. The point of that scene is that Will does not face what Davy Jones did because this time, his love is actually there.
not many people enjoy the fourth potc but i personally enjoyed it. it's got a completely different vibe + there's no elizabeth and will, which makes a lot of fans of the franchise hate the story overall. i just tend to go along for the ride (and as a kid i was/still am obsessed with mermaids so OF COURSE that little scene in the fourth one is my favorite ever). i recommend watching the rest. they're not the same as the og trilogy, but they're still cool. anyways, great reaction! thanks for the laughs.
I recommend to watch the other Pirates of the Caribbean movies as well. They might not be as good as the first 3 but are still fun to watch. Plus if you want to know how William's story continues you should definitely watch the 5th movie ^^

Davy Jones' Locker is pretty much hell for any sailor and those who are trapped in it are subjected to living their worst nightmare over and over and over again. Jack is stranded on an endless desert with copies of himself because he loves the ocean and being the only Captain Jack Sparrow in the world, so that explains that trippy scene

16:13 Fashion student here! If anyone is curious as to what a 'codpiece' is, it was kind of an early European renaissance-era jockstrap. They were present in metal form on full-plated armour, but that's not where they first showed up. A codpiece was initially a pouch worn on the outside of clothing as men's shirt hem styles rose above the crotch, it was meant for modesty & not necessarily protection....at first. The nobility started commissioning them to be heavily decorated to draw attention and they got increasingly & fashionably....larger.....as they got more starched and stuffed lol. (Googling images for codpieces is hysterical!) The non-nobility classes of the time made fun of the trend incessantly as well.
They had fallen out of style by the setting of the PotC franchise tho, the "Golden Age of Piracy", which was roughly the 1650's to 1730's. Still, Jack calling Will a codpiece is basically calling him a pretty (yet yeasty) imitation of manhood. Solid burn!
The reason they don't show the reunion/meeting at the end is because it allows for each viewer to imagine their own version of a "perfect" scene. It also makes the movie ending the beginning of an imagined future for the characters.
And we just saw the farewell scene a few seconds before, we don't need the reunion + discussion + new farewell :D Let's leave that to fanfiction.
I was mostly lost watching this in theaters bt watching as an adult it's easier to follow what's going on. Trust me, I was sad/mad when I first watched the ending cause Elizabeth and Will went through so much to get stuck with that arrangement was heartbreaking. Anyway, I cant wait for the next reaction!

I completely agree, On Stranger Tides was only disappointing to me because I wanted more of Elisabeth. Will didn't need to make a reappearance but I really wanted the King of Pirates to be present (unless she revoked her title off-screen?) I still enjoyed it nonetheless. Dead Men Tell No Tales had a very weak villain. I get what they were going for, but it didn't feel the same as the original trilogy.
I find the lack of emotion kinda fitting because he literally is a heartless fucker. So his lack of expression or tone makes sense. Plus his reaction to the Black Pearl and Flying Dutchman coming towards him was literally the best reaction to see him in.

The big thing is they treated him like a fool. He's always ended up in ridiculous situations, but either through genius improv or legit planning he always managed to find a solution. In the 5th he still ended up in those situations, but he just got lucky in the way that he just kind of...made it through. More of a stupid fool than a clever fool.
I think the goal was to show him getting older, getting drunk, and kind of losing his edge, but the story didn't do a good job of showing that descent, exploring his failures, and instead we got a rushed version that made him a punchline. They also changed the backstory of the compass, which was just a stupid plot hole.
In addition to that, they shoe-horned some other big characters in and didn't do justice to their story, while also creating a terrible villain that could have been legit frightening but made him more of a joke.
The story of the 5th really should have been fleshed out over two films, but they rushed it.
I'd love a 6th to right the wrongs and end the franchise on a good note, but I don't trust them to do that at this point.

To me, this movie is one of the best conclusions to a series/trilogy. They wrapped up all the stories beautifully, had an amazing soundtrack and overall, just created an amazing story!!
Also, I don't know if anyone else realized this, but the first time we see Elizabeth in the first movie, she's a young girl singing Hoist the Colors. And then the first time we see her in this movie (the conclusion), she is once again singing Hoist the Colors, all grown up and a pirate. I just love the callback! :)
Young Elizabeth at the beginning of the first movie sang Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me), not Hoist the Colors. Hoist the Colors wasn't even composed by Hans Zimmer until the third movie. So there's no callback. Sorry.
The fourth one is worth watching if only for the fact that Vernon Dursley has a role and it's really funny. Also mermaids and Penelope Cruz. It's a fun time.
I think part of the reason the fourth movie seems so eh is because it's not tied to the first three movies other than Jack's presence. But I think as a standalone film, it's pretty fun. And the soundtrack is actually pretty great! Different vibe but still amazing.
Fun fact: the Actor who plays Jack Sparrow’s dad, is Johnny Depp’s idol so You can only imagine How Happy he was to act alongside his idol in this movie 😊
you're going to have to go back and re watch this movie cause all the questions you have that you were lost on have been answered early on with subtle hints for you to piece together as sense come full circle in the movie . like the whole calypso plot line, her dad getting killed . etc
I will always remember that the home media release of this film came with an FAQ booklet to try & explain the plot points because nobody could understand what the fuck had happened during the movie.

By no means are the next two films “good” by the standards of the main trilogy, but On Stranger Tides and Dead Man Tell No Tales are worth at least seeing once. I don’t think the fourth is that bad personally. But definitely a different vibe.

At World's End is my favorite. It was originally the final film in the franchise. The Pirates Trilogy is amazing. I love Elizabeth's journey from being a young girl obsessed with pirates to an actual pirate king. The ending to me is touching. The series began with a young Elizabeth singing about pirates and ends with her son singing the same song. The trilogy is really Elizabeth's story. The next two films after are not as good in my opinion. But they do continue exploring the world of pirates.

Effectively 4 and 5 are more "Jack Sparrow and the Quest for Immortality". They are episodic and self contained. I'd say skip 4 for now and watch 5. Then come back and watch 4. You'll miss a few things but not much.
Not so sure if I would personally agree with this. I actually like that we get a bit of a break and more of a look into jack's backstory in the 4th one. We also get some development for barbossa's character. Also the godess herself penelope cruz is in it. Sure she won't miss much, but it would explain Jack's character and behaviour in the 5th, since it's such a wild turnaround from when we leave off in the 3rd

I pretty much called all the major plot points after the second movie. I had a suspicion that to stab the heart would be have to Captain the ship. They mentioned that the ship needs a captain in the second one. Which is why people aren’t just stabbing his heart constantly. I called Will doing it and becoming captain. I pretty much called all of it, I just didn’t know certain points such as Tia Dalmatia being Calypso I did call her being Jones love. She has the same locker he does and it’s where the hidden Mickey ears are in the second movie.
It’s been so long I’ve forgotten the differences between what I called and what was different in the movie. I do remember being at the mid night releases (dressed as Jack Sparrow no less!) Looking at all my friends who said I was wrong and they all are like, “Ok you were right!!!”
I love all the movies At Worlds End may be my favorite I think.
When they sing “hoist the colors”, the act of hoisting a ship’s colors means to raise the battle flag. A similar saying “mail the colors to the mast” means literally to nail the colors to the mast so they cannot be lowered, as lowering a battle flag was a symbol of surrender.

I usually skip the fourth movie when I'm rewatching, but you should watch it, if only to have seen it once. And maybe you'll like it, who knows? No judgement here.
The fifth movie I'd rank better than the fourth movie, though it doesn't live up to the trilogy. But it does tie in more than the fourth, which is more of a standalone. I'll give you a hint: one of the characters in the fifth movie is a young man named Henry Turner...
There's way too many narrative errors in 5. I liked Salazar as a villain and some scenes, but the plot is horrendous and Jack's witty dialogue seems really watered down. It breaks so many rules of the earlier films that really they become pretty void.

I just noticed this, in that scene where Will and Elizabeth are having that conversation below deck on the Chinese ship they got from Singapore on the way to Davy Jones' Locker at night, during that whole thing, you can hear the lullaby from the musical locket that we associate with Davy Jones. However, it's not just background music in the soundtrack, it's the twin locket that Tia Dalma AKA Calypso carries with her, as well. She's listening to it, above deck, probably staring out at the sea. It's a subtle clue before we know who she really is. You only really notice it if you go back and rewatch the movie at least three or four times looking for clues afterwards like I do. I love Easter eggs in movies, and I love looking for them.
I don't know if you noticed, but when Jack said to Will "Maybe you should lock your heart away" that was foreshadowing. I don't know if he's planned this since his talk with the other guy, if it was subconsciously decided, or a spur in the moment.

One of the things people dont realise when Sao Feng is threatening Will to basically intimidate Elizabeth and Barbossa to admit that hes with them...is hes pretty much threatening to carve Will's face off.

Something that was pointed out. The sword that Will made for Norrington was given back to Norrington by Beckett, then Norrington stabbed Jones with his final breath and Jones kept it. Then Jones stabs Will with the same blade he originally made.

i love how they immediately set the tone for this movie with the opening, it immediately got me intrigued for the rest of it.
I loved the opening for Dead Man's Chest and I absolutely love the opening for At Worlds End as well. So good.

So the reason why Elizabeth kissed Jack in the prior movie, was because she was distracting him so she could strap him to the ship.
So... if you wanted to, you can skip the next sequel but the final one does tie in better to the trilogy, with Will and Elizabeth's son as the protagonist.
I recommend that you continue watching the two remaining movies of Pirates of the Caribean franchise, althought Will and Elisabeth no longer appear, except in the final scene of the last movie, but all movies of the franchise are very funny, you won't be dissapointed.
I was upset by the ending with the first viewing on opening day fifteen years ago, but then I went on to see it five times in theaters, so I obviously changed my mind. I also didn't stay for the post-credits scene the first time, but it doesn't need to be longer. The point of that scene is that Will does not face what Davy Jones did because this time, his love is actually there.

not many people enjoy the fourth potc but i personally enjoyed it. it's got a completely different vibe + there's no elizabeth and will, which makes a lot of fans of the franchise hate the story overall. i just tend to go along for the ride (and as a kid i was/still am obsessed with mermaids so OF COURSE that little scene in the fourth one is my favorite ever).
i recommend watching the rest. they're not the same as the og trilogy, but they're still cool.
