Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness | VFX Breakdown | Digital Domain

In order to bring a unique visual effects experience to the audience for Marvel Studios’ Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Digital Domain VFX Supervisor Joel Berhrens and his team of artists introduced visual elements unlike anything ever seen before. Hopping from one incredible reality to another, Joel and his team were able to successfully create a new world and new reality. In addition to creating these other realms, the Digital Domain team also created the Sinister Sanctum, which was modeled from the ground up with concept art by our artists, provided full digidoubles for Wanda and Dr. Strange to all VFX facilities, created several digital cloaks for Dr. Strange and much more.

1:08 Wait, so in this shot, you had to even create a digital Strange even tho the final shot was obviously the real person. Is it because of the digital cape making it necessary to create a digital double?

For relighting the character.

Relighting the actor. A lot of the times the lighting on set is 100% accurate to cg environment. Also they need to stick the cloak on top with the accurate simulation as well.

I kinda wish those reels were longer and commented... no need to show me 20 scenes where 90% of the screen space is just green screen. I would be more interested in being explained what's going on and why. Why is the cape digital for example ? How they made a particular shot... Bring back the Movie Magic series basically !
