Especially when you know your "potential" children would never have to go through hardships and suffering of any sort. Especially since you have first hand experience of what that suffering and turmoil puts upon you. You never know what that child may experience. And may end up resenting and hating your guts, such as myself as I do towards my parents though very covertly.

My God! I'm a child survivor of American Massacre of of January 1990 Baku Azerbaijan and a granddaughter of a survivor of an Armenian Genocide of 1915.
I was forced 💉as a condition to getting a Green Card which caused me to develop ankylosis spondylitis and lipedema. And I'm only in my mid 40's.
Yet, I'm thankful that I had a life experience and value every hardship that I overcame.

Not exactly true. A lot of the best art is derived from suffering. I mean comedy is fundamentally rooted in suffering being twisted into a humorous slant. That said, I do agree that excessive suffering is awful and there is a lot of types of suffering that do just break people with no redemptive aspect to it.

The Colorado artist, look at how their dog is coming to comfort him immediately in two different situations. They understand so much more than you’d think. The words they don’t understand, they’re very skilled at interpreting the emotions the words come with.
We often assume that dogs are dumb and that they overstate their emotions because of it. But actually, they are quite subtle. Studies that they can know when you’re about to stand up before you yourself are aware that you are about to, because they interpret body language so well that they are privy to your actions before your brain signals have established the motivation in your own consciousness.
And if you know dogs well, you know that they speak with their eyes. They are the only other mammal that understands humans pointing. And they are pointing themselves, using their eyes. They look at you and then at the object (for instance, if they want to go out, they may look you in the eyes and then slightly shift their gaze to the window behind you. That’s their signal ”us + out”. It is humans who can’t interpret dogs that are the big idiots.

There's a misconception about bringing children into a world where you are just a number to your country and the oligarchies that your life will be subjected to plus the fact that many people reproduce but don't care about their offspring thinking their children are their unconditional slaves who should be grateful for bringing you to an a life where you were not even welcome but made you feel "in debt".
Bringing children into this world is ok if you don't bring them to your convenience because you want someone to care for you in your old days when they have only passed them their trauma and sometimes even make them worse.
I come from a dysfunctional narcissistic family and I don't know what love is because I refuse to think love is painful and an obligation.
It's not about banning children or forcing people to bring children to this world, it is about awareness about why people birth children: having more work force to work for you? Is it to have someone to love you unconditionally but without loving them first? Is it about having nurses in your old days?
Those are the questions most people don't want to face or if they answer they lie about it.
Does Elon Musk love his children? How much time does he spend to know all of them? I don't think he's conscious of his children being individuals with emotional needs.
I don't care how much money he has. Genghis Khan had lots of power and had many children but that's what narcissism is about; having extension of yourself and treating them as sub-products or extensions.
The world is full of people with childhood trauma but societies and laws don't want to face it because it points to their selfishness.
Have children if you are committed to love them and put them first in your life while you get to know them without tagging them with labels out of your own projections.
Just take a look at how many children are suffering from poverty, hunger, lacking a decent childhood and safety... meanwhile, those who promote natality are those who want cheap work forces and human incubators and they are destroying the resources of the planet when there's no planet B...we just have Earth 🌎 and it's in a terrible shape thanks to wild capitalism.
Resources are limited and humanistic thinking is scarce.

I can’t help but think that antinatalism is primarily a byproduct of modern/contemporary society. Sure, there may be merit to the idea that not “imposing” life on one’s offspring is virtuous if considering that suffering at some level is inevitable in life, everyone’s life for that matter, and having a part in creating new life is in some way feeding into a continual cycle of human suffering. Do we not just have more ability, space, forums through social networking and over the internet to disseminate ideas about existential dilemmas though? Science/health science has advanced so much over the last century that people have increasingly longer life spans, but it seems that increased longevity in years doesn’t necessarily translate to people feeling that life experiences somehow have an improved quality. Why might that be-could be several reasons, but thinking to modern society vs. decades old society it seems like dramatic shifts in social norms/order and increasing trends toward individualism and autonomy as sacred values has served to heighten this “awareness” of suffering and its subjective definitions. Yes there are objectively painful/difficult experiences in life, part of it, but more than ever maybe we are feeding into a culture of crisis. Now it’s as if we have turned so far inward in our reflections on injustices, inequalities, “inherent” ills of society and its institutions that we are the ones facilitating this inconceivable world to exist in.

Is it so bad to 'wake up' after 14 billion years of 'sleep' and have to just exist for about 100 years or less and then go back to 'sleep' for eternity? Ya know what? Never mind. Furthering the wound….Suffering will always exist in this world maybe not in the next, ….but in this world to not be born is not to exist…i hate suffering especially when it comes to innocent people, children and animals…i get their sentiment to a point im all for choice of the women of course but in this case you shouldn’t have the idea just cause something has the potential to suffer they just need not to exist! I understand this perspective but my belief is that life contains bad and good. You choose how to view life and their isnt a objective perspective on how to view and feel about it. But then again who am i to say that you are wrong, if your experiences and social conditioning made you who you are, that is something i cannot take away from you. I always thought on the view of life to be a choice, and it is a choice to view it bad or good. Even if it is a "coping mechanism" to view it good and beautiful, the same way goes on viewing it bad and depressing, its a coping mechanism to prevent you from seeing the beauty and prevent suffering from attachment. I accepted all the wars, the suffering of the human condition and the bad things that come with life, but also accepted the beauty that comes from it. Its a matter of perspective.

If we exist or not, it doesn't really matter. If we wreck our home, we can adapt. Wild animals may not, but they have bigger problems to worry about (like not getting eaten and stuff). If we go extinct, mother nature will recover on its own, meanwhile after 50 million years lemurs will evolve, learn how to control fire, discover mathematics, create industrial revolution and cause this mayhem all over again...
While climate change is a big risk, especially for the poor, it's really not a solid reason to go extinct. *We all already didn't exist* _yet a life was still imposed_ ... Your lack of existing wasn't able to stop a life from doing an "imposition". This proves that not existing is utterly incapable of stopping a life from being imposed. So, had you never been born, what would have stopped some other life from doing the imposition? Billions upon billions of lives are born each day. Animals, humans, and who knows what other life forms are "out there". That's all "you" are: a life, in a generic sense. So, had _this_ life (the one reading this) not been born, then some other life would have done the imposition: If it isn't one life it's another. It wouldn't have been you going into some other brain... "you" is what a brain does. Billions of brains are doing "yous" right now. Just as there was no escaping this life, there wouldn't have been an escape from some other life. This reveals that the idea of not existing as better to be a deeply flawed way of thinking. A deepity.
The only way not existing could be better is if there were some sort of peaceful state before we existed.

word salad. let me make antinatalism simple so that even people like you can understand it. Forget better not to have been. Even though I answered the question in the film, having thought about it, its a bit of a silly question. The real question is to YOU - the commenter above and anyone reading this. Can you give me a good reason based in wisdom, logic and compassion, for bringing a new sentient being to life (or like Amanda put it, raising someone from the dead?) that can and will be harmed, cause harm to others and die?

    • @naturalisted1714
      @naturalisted1714 10 годин тому

@@whycreatemorehumans I was clearly addressing the idea that not existing somehow stops a life from being imposed. Clearly it cannot: Every single person and animal that has ever existed, at one point in time, didn't exist. So it is an undeniable fact that not existing is completely ineffective at stopping a life from doing an imposition. That's my concern, not what you're trying to change the topic to. Sure, there may not be any reason to have kids, but I'm addressing the part of the conversation that says it can be better to not exist. It can only be better if there's an experience of peace for those who do not exist.
Nothing I said was word salad... Seeing it as word salad just reveals that you don't get it. The only word salad is "better to not exist"... This phrase appeases the unthinking mind.

As you probably know, I am the one in the film that speaks about my 3 children. The question of 'whether it would be better had I not been born is something I never think about because it seems pointless to do so as I say in the film. The point I am trying to make here is that the important question for me and anyone watching the film is that there is no good reason to create a sentient being whether GSC is correct or not.
