This world we live in does have some good but the sickness and horror of this life by far outweighs the good. This life is for the most part a living hell. Quick elaboration on efilism. It is not just antinatalism extended to all sentient life, as that would be sentiocentric antinatalism. Efilism seems less defined and clear, with a lot of different people adding different things to it, some more utilitarian in nature.
This star-struck documentarian seems to care more about promoting his interactions with C List celebrities than exposing the dark truth of efilism. What a wimp

They are a finite resource lmao. Do you really want to raise Laqueesha's discarded spawn because you were too scared of childbirth/the "moral" aspect of having kids?
I can’t help but think that antinatalism is primarily a byproduct of modern/contemporary society. Sure, there may be merit to the idea that not “imposing” life on one’s offspring is virtuous if considering that suffering at some level is inevitable in life, everyone’s life for that matter, and having a part in creating new life is in some way feeding into a continual cycle of human suffering. Do we not just have more ability, space, forums through social networking and over the internet to disseminate ideas about existential dilemmas though? Science/health science has advanced so much over the last century that people have increasingly longer life spans, but it seems that increased longevity in years doesn’t necessarily translate to people feeling that life experiences somehow have an improved quality. Why might that be-could be several reasons, but thinking to modern society vs. decades old society it seems like dramatic shifts in social norms/order and increasing trends toward individualism and autonomy as sacred values has served to heighten this “awareness” of suffering and its subjective definitions. Yes there are objectively painful/difficult experiences in life, part of it, but more than ever maybe we are feeding into a culture of crisis. Now it’s as if we have turned so far inward in our reflections on injustices, inequalities, “inherent” ills of society and its institutions that we are the ones facilitating this inconceivable world to exist in.
There is a presumption in their ritorics that life is only struggle, depression, addiction.. But they are equally against all the good things it can bring. They never talk about that
Very nice film! They should show this to teenagers along side sex ed, at least they will make a more informed decision of what are they exactly doing if later they bring a child to the world.
im curious about something: if its better to NOT bring in a life to decide whether they should stay alive or not, does that mean choice about whether to live or not live is wrong? if so why would murder be wrong? it is also not allowing choice thru a different method. if you don't want to murder someone you are deciding its ok for them to have a choice whether to live or die. then why shouldn't all possible life be given that same choice? this is NOT argument for murder, its a thought experiment and id like to see what antinatalists and others have to say about it.
The fact that we all eventually grow old, get sick, and die... makes us the lucky ones. Imagine all the countless billions of people who will never come into existence and experience the pain and agony that is life for a period of time thats so freaking short its almost not even worth mentioning. At least when u compare it to the grand scheme of things (the entire universe). U people are so beyond pathetic, that its beyond pathetic. "Poor little ol' me. Its so unfair that i have to experience existence for at most 100 years before being called back to the void." Like, really tho? Is it so bad to 'wake up' after 14 billion years of 'sleep' and have to just exist for about 100 years or less and then go back to 'sleep' for eternity? Ya know what? Never mind. Forget i said anything. Go on with your plan. Dont reproduce. We dont need amymore weakness in the gene pool. Cant even exist for a century one damn time and then never again. The last line was so stupidly written. It’s like the documentarian didn’t understand anything that was said. Now we’re here, we’re social animals. How is finding community in shared moral beliefs contradictary to the moral beliefs? The moral belief is to end suffering, finding community is part of that goal.

I understand this perspective but my belief is that life contains bad and good. You choose how to view life and their isnt a objective perspective on how to view and feel about it. But then again who am i to say that you are wrong, if your experiences and social conditioning made you who you are, that is something i cannot take away from you. I always thought on the view of life to be a choice, and it is a choice to view it bad or good. Even if it is a "coping mechanism" to view it good and beautiful, the same way goes on viewing it bad and depressing, its a coping mechanism to prevent you from seeing the beauty and prevent suffering from attachment. I accepted all the wars, the suffering of the human condition and the bad things that come with life, but also accepted the beauty that comes from it. Its a matter of perspective.
“It’s a matter of perspective” And right there is the rub. It is YOUR perspective. @gontlemanggeneral-segolodi5222 if that's the case, why do so many people think antinatalism is racist? Furthermore, their voices don't have to be prominent. It's about diversity of representation. If I show this documentary to black people, they think that it has nothing to do with them.
These people just seem unhappy to the point of nihilism. Wow, the coral reefs will appreciate your comment. If it becomes too hot by the end of the century it's not a problem, just move north or higher in altitude. If your coastal land is inundated, well, it's your fault! We're all driving cars, running electricity and burning fuel in the winter. If we exist or not, it doesn't really matter. If we wreck our home, we can adapt. Wild animals may not, but they have bigger problems to worry about (like not getting eaten and stuff). If we go extinct, mother nature will recover on its own, meanwhile after 50 million years lemurs will evolve, learn how to control fire, discover mathematics, create industrial revolution and cause this mayhem all over again... While climate change is a big risk, especially for the poor, it's really not a solid reason to go extinct. You'll see that the future generations will cope with it perfectly fine and they will laugh at your negativity. We've just started the AI revolution and next in queue is quantum computing revolution. Future is bright!
These anti human people have no understanding of what life is all about, imo. Why is everyone so afraid to suffer? Why do they not understand that you wouldn’t be able to find the joy in life without experiencing suffering? The world is perfect as it is, with all the bad and the good, it’s a whole perfect picture, and we’re lucky to get to experience being human.
*We all already didn't exist* _yet a life was still imposed_ ... Your lack of existing wasn't able to stop a life from doing an "imposition". This proves that not existing is utterly incapable of stopping a life from being imposed. So, had you never been born, what would have stopped some other life from doing the imposition? Billions upon billions of lives are born each day. Animals, humans, and who knows what other life forms are "out there". That's all "you" are: a life, in a generic sense. So, had _this_ life (the one reading this) not been born, then some other life would have done the imposition: If it isn't one life it's another. It wouldn't have been you going into some other brain... "you" is what a brain does. Billions of brains are doing "yous" right now. Just as there was no escaping this life, there wouldn't have been an escape from some other life. This reveals that the idea of not existing as better to be a deeply flawed way of thinking. A deepity. The only way not existing could be better is if there were some sort of peaceful state before we existed.
word salad. let me make antinatalism simple so that even people like you can understand it. Forget better not to have been. Even though I answered the question in the film, having thought about it, its a bit of a silly question. The real question is to YOU - the commenter above and anyone reading this. Can you give me a good reason based in wisdom, logic and compassion, for bringing a new sentient being to life (or like Amanda put it, raising someone from the dead?) that can and will be harmed, cause harm to others and die?
@@whycreatemorehumans I was clearly addressing the idea that not existing somehow stops a life from being imposed. Clearly it cannot: Every single person and animal that has ever existed, at one point in time, didn't exist. So it is an undeniable fact that not existing is completely ineffective at stopping a life from doing an imposition. That's my concern, not what you're trying to change the topic to. Sure, there may not be any reason to have kids, but I'm addressing the part of the conversation that says it can be better to not exist. It can only be better if there's an experience of peace for those who do not exist. Nothing I said was word salad... Seeing it as word salad just reveals that you don't get it. The only word salad is "better to not exist"... This phrase appeases the unthinking mind.
@@naturalisted1714 fair enough. I take back my point about word salad. I have watched one of your videos about generic subjective continuity and I do find it fascinating. I think that most people who object to the arguments of antinatalism seem to take one argument of aspect of it and try to debunk the whole thing. As you probably know, I am the one in the film that speaks about my 3 children. The question of 'whether it would be better had I not been born is something I never think about because it seems pointless to do so as I say in the film. The point I am trying to make here is that the important question for me and anyone watching the film is that there is no good reason to create a sentient being whether GSC is correct or not.

The Texan guy was absolutely BRILLIANT! Wow. He knew what he was thinking and communicated cogently and empathically.
Doug Stanhope is a superhero of mine for almost 20 years now.
The last interviewee, the British guy, was to me the only repulsive person. He puts his own pain and beliefs over the will, agency and happiness of his own daughter. A narcissist stuck in generational trauma. He should only provide the least possible suffering for her if he understood the idea he makes her suffer for.
I’m extremely anti natal. I have never seen any logic to reproduce. In some ways it’s incredibly selfish. People look at it as “ I want kids” but the child has absolutely no say in the matter. This world we live in does have some good but the sickness and horror of this life by far outweighs the good. This life is for the most part a living hell. Reproducing makes no sense and is incredibly selfish

As a fellow pessimist I can absolutely relate to Life Sucks @35:30 (btw I love their coloring book, one of the coolest antinatalist things I've got).
What a wimp

I have watched Amanda on softwhiteunderbelly and I have been fascinated by the topic of antinatalism ever since!

Very nice film! They should show this to teenagers along side sex ed, at least they will make a more informed decision of what are they exactly doing if later they bring a child to the world.
There is an antedote for the suffering in the world. Birth would just be cruel, if there wasn't.
It's a dream not the timeless reality.
im curious about something: if its better to NOT bring in a life to decide whether they should stay alive or not, does that mean choice about whether to live or not live is wrong? if so why would murder be wrong? it is also not allowing choice thru a different method. if you don't want to murder someone you are deciding its ok for them to have a choice whether to live or die. then why shouldn't all possible life be given that same choice? this is NOT argument for murder, its a thought experiment and id like to see what antinatalists and others have to say about it.
Calling u people weak and pathetic is an insult to the weak and pathetic
The problem throughout history was not enough humans. Today it's too many humans. It's simple.

So mostly what they are saying is if my child suffers id rather them not even exist at all……furthering the wound! Imagine saying to someone who has had the worst thing to happen to them a young child gets sa’d and dies thats to me is one of the worst of the worst would you say to that child i wish you didn’t exist…. Furthering the wound….Suffering will always exist in this world maybe not in the next, ….but in this world to not be born is not to exist…i hate suffering especially when it comes to innocent people, children and animals…i get their sentiment to a point im all for choice of the women of course but in this case you shouldn’t have the idea just cause something has the potential to suffer they just need not to exist! I understand though they are speaking from a place of fear i totally get, this world is very scary indeed but also beautiful and fragile just like us. Practice strength not shame. Wishing all who may read this ❤️ love and peace!
You are 100000% correct here.
@@RachelRichards thank you
“It’s a matter of perspective”

Agreed! I'm child-free myself but I would never force/ask other people to not have children.
That means you don't know any antinatalists. So what? Some people think of others not just themselves and make decisions based on what they think is right, not what they personally want.
@@aryachaudhury2787I never said what you quoted there, buddy. Perhaps you got my comment confused with someone else’s. I don’t think anyone should be pressured into having kids. But I’m not going to shame people who do want kids. I respect personal choices. I only have one child and she’s grown and doesn’t want kids. I fully support her decision. I'm more of an anti-natalist because of climate change.
Billions are not born every day.
