Thanks for the help Nick in troubleshooting! 🤗 Although most are telling me to switch to MC I’m sticking with my Shure for now! If it’s good enough for Kevin Gray, it should be good enough for me.
@@fidelios_frequency Hey, I was in it til that hum went away…😂 As you know, the REGA carts are to take the guesswork out of setup with the 3 screws, but that Shure is a much better cart, imo. I used to have one but gave it to a friend. Still got an M97xE (which Chad uses) and a 91ED that I wired as a mono cart. One deck for stereo, one for mono. We’re obsessive. 😂 Anyway, glad you got everything sorted, cuz during your vid, I was thinking, “this poor guy buys a new table and it gave you grief) lol Talk to ya soon, Arnaldo. 🔊😊🎶💜
@@NickP333I have an M97xE as well but it’s not as precise as the V15V. Sometimes though the V15V is a bit too revealing especially on records that are in bad shape 😂. If I remember correctly Bernie Grundman has the V15V mounted on his lathe as a playback cart.
Being from England I have a love of Rega turntables. I even met Roy Gandy at a hi-fi show in February here in the UK. Such a shame you’ve had so many issues. It would indicate that whilst the deck is well designed, a little more care is in order during build. On the lid, all P6s come with a smoked type. When starting my Rega turntable I would always give the platter a small pre-spin by hand. This reduces wear on the motor and belt. I also leave my platter running between records, even on my current Linn turntable. Now it’s working as it should, I have no doubt you’ll get hours of pleasure from it. And despite what others say, I’m glad you can tell the difference between your P6 and your previous turntables.
Very interesting and informative narrative on the P6 purchase. I had the same experience with the Rega Brio integrated amplifier humming and solved it with a ground wire.
This was a great video for current and prospective Rega P6 owners. I had a Rega P3-24 back in the day and liked it. The squeaky sound is normal not just in Rega but other tables as well, such as a VPI Classic that I own. It comes from the belt slipping as it tries to turn and get the platter up to speed. With the talcum powder, you place the whole belt in it which coats the rubber on the belt and this grips to the platter and motor better eliminating the squeal. So yes this is normal with belt driven turntables. What is normally suggested is to turn the plater first, then hit the power button, which will have the belt more in sync with the platter because the belt won’t hav to use as much force to get it up to speed. I also now own two direct drive tables the Technics sl-1200 GR and the Denon DP-3000ne. The Denon is more in line with the build quality and weight of the VPI at 40 pounds. The Technics had this bobble problem when first using the cueing over to lift the stylus off of the record, but it eventually goes away with use, but it drives you nuts and it’s been talked about on UA-cam often. The Denon doesn’t have this issue, nor are the RCA and ground connections located under the table near the tonearm, which causes you to either lift with one hand straining your wrist or propping it up with something like with the Technics. The Denon has none of these issues, neither does the VPI, but the Technics GR is a fine sounding table. The Denon’s feet are huge and they look like the ones on VPI Prime Signature series turntables. The Technics short comings led to me purchasing the Denon and this might be the reason I stop dealing with belt drive tables all together, no maintenance like with the VPI, but I love my VPI and the unipivot tonearm is better with more detail overall, but it can be a headache to set up but the Denon is close.
I bought the P6 about a year and a half ago, also from Audio Advice, with the Exact 2 cart pre-installed. I've had zero issues, and really love the table. The spin-up squeak is something I have as well but have been told the same, just the belt rubbing a bit while torquing up speed - I just give it a quick spin with my hand as I'm turning it on to prevent the squeak. Was a great improvement over a couple different ProJect tables I'd had. Last year I upgraded to the Rega Aria Mk3 phono preamp and it was another incredible improvement again. Very pleased with every aspect of the system at this point (which is also using Rega RS5 speakers...a theme....and a Jolida tube integrated amp). Enjoy the Rega! Consider one of their cartridges. They really are designed as a system.
Glad you had no issues. Every system combination has different requirements and challenges. I like my Shure cart too much to change it any time soon. 😊
The biggest upgrade you can make to the Rega P6 is a great cartridge like the nagaoka MP 500 and a great phono preamp like the trigon Vanguard III preamp
Congratulations - I appreciated your objective review. I've loved Rega turntables for 30 years, and as they sound very good, I've occasionally had problems with quality or peculiarities. These were moments when I was a little disappointed. But at the end of the day, for the price, you get an enjoyable turntable. 👍
Hello Arnaldo good choice I bought the same Rega P6 around the 2021 I have been very satisfied I have the Exact cartridge I’m definitely going to upgrade my cartridge and phono stage . Before my Rega I had the Project debut carbon Esprit SB . Sorry to hear you had problems. That’s cool Audio Advice was helpful I bought mine from them great company. You have a killer system setup Arnaldo I dig it .
Hi Andrew what a coincidence that we both upgraded to the Rega P6 from the Debut Carbon Esprit SB! And we bought it from the same company! Thanks for the compliments I’m pretty happy with my system right now… until the next upgrade 😂
I have a Rega Planer 3 50th Anniversary Edition since December last year. It was set up by the dealer in my home. It makes a slight noise when starting up. No other issues and I love it. Not up to P6 standard, but closer than the regular P3 as it comes with the PSU, Exact Cartridge and a superior belt.
Congrats on your new TT! Glad you are enjoying it. I think all Rega belts have a little squeak on startup. I was told to give it a nudge before you power on. Thanks for watching. ✌🏻
Does perfection exist? Every turntable setup requires some tinkering, but I agree that the cueing lever drop should have been factory tested and they need a protective film on the dustcover. Thanks for watching.
@@Kiwizig the only issue I was really annoyed with was the buzzing. Dust cover and cueing lever were easy fixes. The ticking went away on its own I just needed to give the bearing time to run through.
Hi Arnaldo👋🏻, Congratulations on the new Rega P6. I have the same turntable. I lucked out and have never had the issues you are speaking of but I do know others have had the buzzing issue. I believe George Borden mentioned his has this issue. His is a P3 however. From what I gather this is definitely a hang up with Regas philosophy. There are many parts of the Rega philosophy I agree with but after having been a Rega guy for many years I have concluded that I get the idea that sometimes the minimalist approach is taken a bit to the extreme. IMO not having a grounding wire is one of those cases. There are reasons why Rega does this but honestly I can’t even recall the technical reasons as to why. Whatever the reason, the buzz would seem to me to be enough of an issue that not having a grounding wire due to supporting whatever other reasons for sound improvement would be a diminishing return type situation. Its awesome they were helpful and came up with a solution but if they are going to have the philosophy of “no ground wire” and then suggest “Yeah try a ground wire” then that is a bit contradictory lol. Here is an idea Rega: How about just realizing that you have hit a proven wall with the grounding issue and put a grounding wire on the turntable instead of placing the task and trouble on your customer? Sorry should have had a rant warning there :0 Anyway, I am happy for you and that you are experiencing a further step in sound quality improvement and ultimately enjoying your new table! Thanks for the video! I am sure it is helpful to others to have this information.
Hi John! I didn’t know you had the same turntable. I agree with your rant but if the issues with the buzzing are isolated then it could be due to other factors in the mix. I’ve heard about issues with the hum but it was mostly due to the proximity of the PSU to the table. But you’re right if the buzzing and hum are easily solved with a grounding wire, then why don’t they just put a damn ground wire in there! What I don’t understand is how they ship dust covers without a protective film! Especially if damaged ones are so common that they already have a form on their website to submit for a replacement. Question for you: do you hear a low hum when the tonearm gets close to the spindle? I would hear it on my Project and still hear it with the P6. I’m wondering if my Shure cart is the culprit. 🤔
I purchased a Rega P6 from a reputable Hi-Fi dealer in Dallas. There are big advantages of using a nearby dealer rather than ordering online. They offer 50 percent credit on any purchased item towards a trade in and are available for trouble shooting at no cost. I have a Rega Ania Pro cartridge, which is well voiced for my Rega P6 turntable and Rega Elicit-R amp. I visited the dealer last week regarding a cartridge upgrade to Rega Apheta 3. He said my P6 tone arm could support the upgrade just fine. I made the mistake of demo'ing a Rega P8 with Apheta-3 cartridge. Big difference in sound fidelity, but I resisted and counted my blessings with the fine Rega system I have. I chose Rega because of recommendations and for their voicing of British pressed classical records, such as EMI-Columbia, EMI-His Master's Voice and London/Decca.
f a riend had a Rega in early 80's and it squeaked so we pushed the platter gently on start up. Forty years later exactly the same with my P6. Its no big deal its just a Rega thing. great tip on the hum which really bugged me. nevetheless great turntable no regrets.
Cool new turntable, Arnaldo! Sorry you had the various hiccups but looks like you picked a good retailer to purchase from based on the after-sale assistance you got. I haven't had a Rega table but love that they take a different approach to their 'vibration measuring machine' (I think that's what Rega calls it). Minimalism and rigidity rather than weight/mass to keep resonance (?) to a minimum. I like when manufacturers think outside the box. Bottom line: I'm glad you're happy with your new gear, 'cuz that's the bottom line. I hope it serves you well for ages. Cheers, Tom
Congrats on you purchase! The p6 plinth and the RB330 arm I am sure are awesome together. I just did the opposite...left Rega (P3 + PSU) for Pro-Ject (X1B) lol. I wanted azimuth / vta controls for exploring cartridges more easily, built in grounding post (dead quiet vs. p3), and mini xlr out vs rca were factors for me. If you are looking for phono pre-amp options, I would highly recommend the Schiit Mani 2 as an excellent entry point (under $200). Such a step up from my Musical Fidelity M5si integrated's phono stage.
Thank you! I forgot to mention I have a phono stage Rega Fono Mini A2D. I believe the way to adjust azimuth in the P3/6 is through the use of shims. I haven’t had the need yet as it seems that the height of my cart is just right. How do you like the X1B?
@@fidelios_frequency Awesome! Yes need shims, fortunately many resources out there on many diff carts. I am playing (Japanese) George Michael's Faith right now on the X1B...super dynamic, accurate, and transparent soundstage vs. stock P3 + psu. I went with the Sumiko base cart & added the Wellfleet "oyster" cart upgrade (the Amethyst needs a completely diff headshell) and the psu upgrade. End goal is to move into MC and take full advantage of the xlr balanced out.
My new P3 has the squeak, the cueing lever has free play. I also have a loud noise through right speaker when removing tone arm off record. Also my wool mat has the hole off centre so it spins crooked. lol. These little things are frustrating for the cost
i have the same TT Arnaldo, I’ve had it for about 4 years now. I wouldn’t personally put powder in the belt, it only happens on startup and you don’t even think about it after. a while. it often times doesn’t even happen either. regarding the ticking when your dust cover is down, does your cart require a spacer? mine does and i noticed that just with a 2mm spacer, the dust cover sits on the counter weight when it’s down, just barely, but enough to mess with playback! such poor design! making the dust cover like half an inch taller would eliminate that issue when you have to use a spacer. i’ve heard g borden talk about the buzz, and others. he mentioned it only happens with rega carts, but you have a shure so hmmm. i have a hana and have never experienced a hum! but glad you figured it out and also good to know how to address this.
Hi Wally. Glad you enjoy the P6. The ticking was audible regardless of dust cover. It came from the subplatter. Anyway, it went away on its own. I haven’t used the talcum on the belt although the tech said it would be safe. Thanks for watching. 🙏🏻
Every turntable setup has its challenges. So many variables come into play when trying to optimize your listening experience. My previous two turntables were not headache-free out of the box.
Nice to share your video with us but I’m not sure if I would have made it. I’m from the Netherlands and am a fan of Rega products for more than 20 years. The problems you mention should not occur but like in normal cases a Rega dealer checks the stuff before delivery to a customer. In this case to online service of the seller was good but did he didn’t preventively check and set up the turntable for you. Every production plant has its problems and imagine if for all these problems people would have made video’s . 😄 I also bought a P6 recently and I am impressed with the sound quality. You really don’t have to spend 25k for a good turntable but ofcourse you can! Ps I bought it with an Ania cartridge and can recommend it to (almost) everybody! 😄
Hi Mark! I made the video so that my experience could be useful to someone else. It was not to discouraged anyone from buying a Rega otherwise I wouldn’t have concluded the video saying I was happy with my purchase and enjoyed listening to music on my new P6. I don’t think the retailer has any fault since all they did was ship the box. It is Rega’s fault not knowing how to properly package the dust cover to prevent damage. Rega should have also calibrated the cueing lever at the factory. Luckily both of those issues were easily resolved. Thanks for watching! Take care. ✌🏻
As a long time Rega customer here in England I'm sorry to hear about your issues. Frankly, a high end dealer saying they won't provide a demo environment is ridiculous and it's no surprise you took your business elsewhere. I'd have done the same. My advice would be to always listen to your records with the dust cover removed completely. It's really only there for storage. Whilst in use it should be removed and set aside. Dust covers act like an antenna for resonance.
@@jameshayward1314 The dealer not only did not have any Rega available to demo, he didn’t have ANY turntables to demo. Saying that past experiences with customers breaking expensive styli is not a justification to not demo turntables. 💁🏻 Thanks for the tip on the dustcover. ✌🏻👍🏻
I n Britain were these turntables are manufactured the Rega dealers would never use a courier service, my local dealership set up the turntable in the shop and installed it in my home for no additional cost. I have owned theP6 for about 4 years and have had no problems
As someone whom has owned three different Rega TTs, and have since the mid 80s always recommended them to friends as a bare minimum, but I’ll go one deeper and say you move onto either a Denon | Audio Technica | Rega cartridge.
I had a scuffed up dust cover as well and was sent a fresh one. The wool mat was smashed and off center. The platter spindle needed lubrication and I finally got some from the rega master distributor. Rega claims to include 2 mm allen head to adjust neo speed but do not. My unit ran fast and no way to slow down enough. I replaced the belt that came with unit with reference belt. Second reference belt once had lubricated both motor and subplatter came with needed allen head tool to adjust neo. Speed seems spot on now. I have an Exact 2 cartridge that I like and a lot of nice gear. The hum is way lower than elys 2 p3 i have I think neo helps and really separation of cables and such. Tbh Rega is a cheap company with good designs. They could and should include lubricants including the motor oil. That ticking was your motor for sure. Also i bet u try a nd3 likely blow that shure away. 345 bucks. I mean 3 point mounting use it! Nd5 best but 2x nd3 price. Ok enjoy
Seems like you also had a bit of issues with your purchase as well. I may switch to a new cartridge in a few years when it’s time to replace the stylus. Thanks for sharing your experience and suggestions. Take care. ✌🏻
Rega turntables are factory set for use with their cartridges (14mm height). I could be wrong but Rega doesn't offer adjustments for VTA. So, is your Sure cartridge height compatible, and if not were you able to use shims or a mat to get the correct VTA? I know there is a lot of controversy about VTA. I read that 1mm of height changes VTA by less than .25° and as long as you are within 2° there isn't a noticeable sound difference (for us mortals anyway). I ask in part because I have a Fluance RT85 which came with an Ortofon 2m Blue and doesn't have VTA adjustments. Technically, it restricts me to Ortofon 2m series cartridges (18mm). I have a Grado Prestige Blue 3 (17mm) installed and I prefer it to the 2m Blue. It sounds and tracks just fine and I believe it is within .25° at 1mm height difference. According to what I read on VTA .25° for every 1mm of height difference. 4mm would result in 1° forward or back depending on higher or lower. For me, that's close enough. Some folks will break out their microscope but my OCD hasn't gotten there yet. I think most cartridges are designed to be within 2° of tolerance to account for record height, warps, and not all manufacturers cutting their pressings at precisely the same angles. I believe I read somewhere that accepted tolerance off the press is 5°. That kind of makes me suspect that VTA could be a little hyped up to sell more expensive turntables with VTA adjustments to people who believe they need to adjust VTA when going from a thin pressing to a 180 gram pressing or anytime they have a cartridge change with slightly different height. That would drive me insane. Ortofon does make 2m cartridges (14mm) specifically for Rega to match their tone arm height. I'm not sure if you mentioned whether your Rega came with a cartridge or not or if you compared it with your Sure. I'm seriously thinking of upgrading to the Rega as you did. My only concern has been the VTA limitations which could be bunk anyway. I may just buy the Rega with their cartridge and not worry about it. I hear the new ND series are fantastic. Great video. Congratulations on your Rega.
Thank you for sharing your experience. My Shure cart is 17mm in height. I bought the shims but haven’t mounted them yet. I have the same considerations with regard to VTA and the heights of the different pressings and the mat as well. I’ve actually switched to a thinner rice paper mat which possibly compensates for a bit.
@@fidelios_frequency It's great to hear that it's working out without having to make adjustments. Thanks for letting me know. I love that turntable and am really excited to hear that. It puts me that much closer to making the leap😀
@@fidelios_frequency I would highly recommend buying a Rega cartridge, particularly the Ania mc or Ania Pro mc. Rega components are voiced for synergy.
I am surprised Rega didn't put a grounding lug on the power supply, I had noticed from watching another video about the P6 that the chassis grounding wire inside the power supply was connected to the silver screws on the back, but who would have known that??
Had rega planar 1 back in the day. Love it, sounds amazing - but i hated the hum sound on high volume and all the fuzz around... too much upgrades... thinking of upgrade to P6 but ended up with Technics SL-1210GR - now i'm super happy with my endgame deck and never look back.
Thanks for your sharing your experience. This would actually steer me away from Rega. I have seen the motor mount on the early Regas and it is kind of weird.
I think it’s common to have some kinda of problem with a turntable setup. Others that have bought Rega had no issues whatsoever. However, I respect your decision. Thank you for watching.
O way for Rega to adjust the lift without knowing the cartridge. The have different heights. The issue with the cover doesn’t look like wear, more like stress marks from molding.
I'm just starting to consider trading in my P2 for a P6. Initially I went to my dealer to see if I could demo an Aria Mk3 phone stage to swap my Fono MM Mk5 with, but they didn't have one...they didn't have a P6 for that matter, but they had a P1, 2, 3, and 8 among other brands. I enjoyed listening to a pair of Magnepans for the first time, though. I'd never listened to anything other than a "box" speaker. Some of the stuff in the shop cost more than I make in my job!
It depends if you are buying it with one of the optional carts pre-mounted. In that case you may have less issues to troubleshoot. It seems though that the belt squeak is a common trait of the P6 & P3. As for the hum, every turntable setup may encounter that hurdle. I know people that have Regas with no issues whatsoever. It all depends on all your other components. In the end, I am happy with my purchase. 😊
I ended up buying a P6 and I am very pleased with the sound but just wondering if you were able to get rid of the squeak on start-up? My lid is also scuffed along the top edge.
Squeak is still there. I understand that is a common trait of most Regas. You should ask for a replacement dust cover. Either the retailer or US distributor should be able to assist you.
Hi! I have a Rega P3 2000, with a Linn Adikt cartridge and the rb300 tonearm. That’s how I bought it used. I run it through the phono stage of the Parasound P6 combo with a23+, speakers Focal Aria 948. As someone said here, it is a journey, not a destination. So, my question is: what would be the next big step for me in order to get a much more hifi sound? Should I go for a phono preamp? And which one? Should I upgrade the cartridge? Or should I go for a total new turntable? Again, which one? I also have the Rega Planar 1 with a Nagaoka mp-100, but it’s not used since I got the P3. Thank you!
I have owned my Planar 6 for two years. Three months ago I had a new Reference Belt installed. Always give your platter a little push upon starting. Said squeak is just the belt breaking in. It will go away.
@@fidelios_frequency a little. I suggest you do what I did. Since the speed on the Neo PSU is set at the factory with the supplied belt. Go with that one for at least two years or when you are ready to change the cart. I had my cart professionally installed. Had the Rega Exact for two years then moved up to the Ania Pro. Tech had one of those "lazers" that shot around the room. With the standard now two year old belt he said my speed was "just about perfect. Right where it should be". With the new Reference Belt he said "even better". But yeah. Don't put any powder on the belt. Just give the platter a spin to start (it will also extend the life of the belt) then hit the "start" button. I assure you the squeak will go away in about three weeks.
@@doodahdavesrecords4319 I never got the opportunity to demo each side by side so I only decided based on recommendations from other friends/gearheads and reading & watching reviews.
I have both and do think it sounds better. The elys2 was hummy with the 3 but exact 2 and neo combo is much quieter. Exact 2 definitely better. Being able to adjust the speed is nice.
Hi ,great interesting video, I have p3 with elyis 2 cartridge, and thus causing the hum when arm go towards end of record, i have a spare om5 cartridge for my project primary e and just temporarily put it arm and the hum went down to low level, so I bought vm95sg and tried that hum practically gone and very low level, my rotel A11 on the phono I/p and to have a reasonable level the vol control have to be in excess 60 -63, so I bought ifi phono amp and use the the next position up from the mm gain switch so more more gain can so you don’t have to put vol control on the a11 right up. so when my elyis wears out I can change it .So with a record cleaning brush wand it need to earth to reduce static I connected the cable to the Neo psu back screw and earth cable to the amp earth terminal but the hum is still there on my elyis2,by the way only noticeable with headphones, couldn’t really hear the hum on loudspeakers , I was hoping that would resolve the issue . Hi I ave the REGA p3 and i had the same issue with the hum on my turntable i have a Nagaoka MP-150 Cartridge. My solution was to put a ground wire under the turntable were the middle spindle under the Plinth i have no more hum at all. This must happens on deference types of cartridge
Thanks for sharing your experience. Some people here think they know it all and expect everyone else to be a pro at picking out a turntable which doesn't require any type of adjustment. Thanks for watching!
yeah that's good to use the talcum powder as long as you're not in a high humidity area. a better approach would be to get some kiln dried sand kids play sand blonde sand, you'll need some gloves probably put the sound in the bucket and massage the belt for a good 7 minutes rubbing it aggressively. you want the belt to be dull not shiny. this is same as using the talcum powder but better. see if the belts got any moulding lines concentrate on that area. Rega says they don't I have seen them they do. I'm concerned about your electrics you shouldn't be getting hum that power supply only has neutral and live not earth in the mains, you've got resistance in your mains neutral get electrician to test it. if you use an extension cord a better one might be advisable and having in the first socket. worth getting a ifi mains purifier not expensive. also a 600 ohm resistor on the separate earth wire from the turntable would sort out the same thing.
@@fidelios_frequency no problem! I forgot to say! if you do the sand technique make sure you wash the belt thoroughly in soapy water afterwards, don't use alcohol on belts. if you've got a Tumblr you can put your belt in that maybe 10 minutes
The P6 is the sweet spot in the Rega line it is a fantastic table. So much better than the P3. Better platter, sub platter, and power supply. Surprised you didn’t need a spacer using a non Rega Cart. Now save up for their Exact 2 cartridge. It is the perfect fit and sounds wonderful on any of their tables. Nice journey. Enjoy the table. ❤️🔥
@@mazzysmusic Thanks Mazzy! I’m actually investigating the need for a shim. It’s a challenge to find the height specs of my Shure cart but it doesn’t seem to be taller than the Regas. Or if it is, it might just be 1-2mm. Tonearm seems to rest parallel to record. To be continued…✌🏻
In my opinion you should have just upgraded the project I have a Rega and had many issues with mine not as good as everyone thinks for the cost of these units
I would hardly call these upgrades. I would call them setup and maintenance procedures. Rega sells tonearm shims because their carts are typically 3mm shorter in height than other brands. That is why Ortofon came out with a Rega sized MM cartridge. Of course a belt will slip on startup as it is not direct gear driven. Give the platter a nudge before hitting the power button or your belt will stretch or pull off the subplatter. Regular oiling of the bearing is necessary for any turntable even ones that have been sitting in storage or on a dealer's shelf. My daughter figured this out on her own when I gave her my old P25. The ground issue affects all types of electronics of differing ground potentials when items are a mix. Now we have people thinking that these tables are troublesome like people who don't read owner's manuals and complain about their purchase.
When I said "upgrade" I meant from my previous turntable. I thought it was pretty clear from the video. Maybe I can reach out to your daughter next time I need gear troubleshooting. BTW, my previous Pro-ject was belt drive and I never heard squeak or ticking. Never had to "oil" the bearings. I'm just sharing my experience.
At least my daughter knows that experience without understanding is useless. At least my daughter knows that the advantages of a belt drive turntable are defeated if the belt is stiff enough not to slip. Rega P8 and P10 have two belts. The Niaia has three belts. More money solves more problems. You are paying for a good arm and speed control at a price point. If you buy a turntable without adjustable VTA then you have to make adjustments when installing a non Rega cartridge. You can't just install a cartridge and hope that it works. There are other makes for that. Lubrication is self-explanatory. I do not consider Rega to be the best turntable out there. It is a collection of compromises to sell at a certain price. It has the bones to be a good turntable. If your Project did not exhibit these issues then why did you replace it? Fini.
@@jimbrock1441 Man, you really need to listen to videos. I explained why I replaced my Pro-ject. Your arrogance just makes you deaf. For you daughter I have this: 🏅🏆 I bet you're a proud father!
The REGA P6 is a good looking turntable, however it's not without its problems. It sounds like you had your fair share of them. Turntables $500.00 and up in themselves don't really have that much impact on sound unless something is wrong with them such as hum, mechanical, or motor noise. Then they do have an impact, all negative. Your cartridge is nearly 98% of your sound, maybe more. Then you must have it aligned as near perfect as you can get it, it's always a compromise. The one good thing about a REGA is its three point cartridge mounting system, for of course their cartridges, and you are not utilizing that. Anyway I like your honesty, and I subscribed. I do think you would have done much better with a Clearaudio/Marantz turntable probably the same cost, and would have much fewer problems, such as no problems. I've had mine for over seven years with no problems at all.
Hi Robert. Thank you for subscribing. I agree with you about the cartridge and that’s why I stuck with my Shure. I did consider the Clearaudio but the retailer I visited (that didn’t have any floor demos 😂) did not recommend them because they sound “cold”. 🤷🏻 Picking audio components is always trial and error because every combination will sound different from the showroom to your home. Thanks for watching and for commenting.
cartridges are 98% of the sound? laughable ill-informed comment. You clearly have not heard what happens when you put a budget cartridge on a top quality turntable with top quality tonearm.
I had a Rega P6 it was the worst sounding thing I ever owned. I added a mofi cart that saved it and made it listenable and a 2mm plate to level it. The stock MM cart was horrible horrible. I moved on since my midfi journey. You will get to better gear eventually. It is a journey not a destination. Look at Kuzma next.

Hi Mark, I’m hoping to keep this turntable for a while. 🤞🏻 I was under the impression that the white P6 has a clear dust cover. 🤔

Very interesting and informative narrative on the P6 purchase. I had the same experience with the Rega Brio integrated amplifier humming and solved it with a ground wire.
I would think by now, with so many customers troubleshooting the hum that Rega would put a damn ground wire! 😂
I lived all the issues along with you lol but am glad you were able to resolve them through research and getting or customer service from the seller.
Thank you for bearing with me through all of my turntable frustrations. 🤗

At this price range it should be absolutely perfect !!!🎉
Does perfection exist? Every turntable setup requires some tinkering, but I agree that the cueing lever drop should have been factory tested and they need a protective film on the dustcover. Thanks for watching.

Hi Arnaldo👋🏻,
Congratulations on the new Rega P6.
Here is an idea Rega:
How about just realizing that you have hit a proven wall with the grounding issue and put a grounding wire on the turntable instead of placing the task and trouble on your customer?
Sorry should have had a rant warning there :0
Anyway, I am happy for you and that you are experiencing a further step in sound quality improvement and ultimately enjoying your new table!
Give the platter a little spin before turning on your table. The squeak goes away.
@@timothyfreeseha4056 thanks. Occasionally I remember to do that. 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing your experience. Glad you enjoy your system. ✌🏻
My wife & I are very pleased with our Rega P6 with the moving coil Ania cartridge. To honor the British, I chose the Vincent 701 cartridge preamp.
Good choice. Enjoy! 👍🏻
f a riend had a Rega in early 80's and it squeaked so we pushed the platter gently on start up. Forty years later exactly the same with my P6. Its no big deal its just a Rega thing. great tip on the hum which really bugged me. nevetheless great turntable no regrets.
I have been hearing from many that the squeak is normal for the Rega. Thanks for watching and commenting. ✌🏻
Pretty cool, Arnaldo!
Thanks for the advice and helping me out with my decision. ✌🏻
Cheers, Tom
Hey Tom, thank you for your message. The customer service was awesome and I’m happy I can finally enjoy my turntable.
Who did you buy it from? Maybe you should contact the retailer or ask for a replacement.
i have the same TT Arnaldo, I’ve had it for about 4 years now.
If I was looking at one of these.......I'd mark it off the list, after hearing all this.
I also bought a P6 recently and I am impressed with the sound quality.

As someone whom has owned three different Rega TTs, and have since the mid 80s always recommended them to friends as a bare minimum, but I’ll go one deeper and say you move onto either a Denon | Audio Technica | Rega cartridge.
Thanks. What kind of cartridge did you have on your Regas?
Ok enjoy

O way for Rega to adjust the lift without knowing the cartridge. The have different heights. The issue with the cover doesn’t look like wear, more like stress marks from molding.
The dust cover marks are due to the packing materials rubbing during transport.
I think you will notice the improvement in upgrading from the P2 to P6. I highly recommend demo-ing it if you have the opportunity.
Arnaldo seems like you had a lot of glitches with the P 6 honestly would you recommend it to us who are looking out here?

Thank you!
I think a good cartridge is essential. That’s where it starts, right? The stylus in the groove is where the magic begins.
I have owned my Planar 6 for two years. Three months ago I had a new Reference Belt installed. Always give your platter a little push upon starting. Said squeak is just the belt breaking in. It will go away.
Have a p7 with upgraded rb1000 and have demoed it against the p6 and the 6 far short. All in all rega is the brand.
Hi Robert, does the new belt make a difference?

Regards mark
I also have a low hum as the tonearm approaches the spindle. I had it also with my Pro-ject as well. I was told that it is expected to a certain degree depending on the cartridge.
@@fidelios_frequency , that’s interesting as on my project primary e I didn’t have the hum issue mine has the Om 5 , only on the rega plannar 3 , but confirmed it’s practically gone when I changed the cartridge from elyis2 to vm95e practically gone, . What cartridge is on your project primary e? Regards mark
@@6643bear I had the current Shure V15VMR & also another Shure M97xE. It’s possibly a thing with Shure carts? I’ll try the ProJect with the Ortofon Red.
@@fidelios_frequency, hi that’s quite possible but they may not screened on the cartridge as more modern ones . Regards mark
@@6643bear yes I think some carts are better shielded than others.
Hi I ave the REGA p3 and i had the same issue with the hum on my turntable i have a Nagaoka MP-150 Cartridge. My solution was to put a ground wire under the turntable were the middle spindle
under the Plinth i have no more hum at all. This must happens on deference types of cartridge
Thanks for sharing your experience. Some people here think they know it all and expect everyone else to be a pro at picking out a turntable which doesn't require any type of adjustment. Thanks for watching!
I have a P6 with a Nagaoka MP500 love it with my trigon Vanguard III preamp. The preamp made the biggest improvement.
@@eugenefudge3685thanks for the preamp suggestion ✌🏻
yeah that's good to use the talcum powder as long as you're not in a high humidity area.
a better approach would be to get some kiln dried sand kids play sand blonde sand, you'll need some gloves probably put the sound in the bucket and massage the belt for a good 7 minutes rubbing it aggressively. you want the belt to be dull not shiny. this is same as using the talcum powder but better. see if the belts got any moulding lines concentrate on that area.
Thank you so much for all the information, advice & tips!
@@fidelios_frequency no problem! I forgot to say! if you do the sand technique make sure you wash the belt thoroughly in soapy water afterwards, don't use alcohol on belts. if you've got a Tumblr you can put your belt in that maybe 10 minutes
Move to coil forget bland moving magnets .
Maybe one day.
Perhaps you should have bought a P3 Anniversary Edition. Just as good as the STD P6.
I was told that the quality jump from P3 to P6 was significant. 🤷🏻
Well no, it's not - the P6 has a much better platter and plinth, and the power-supply is hand-tuned to it's motor, for starters.
@@mhagaincorrect, thanks for the details. 👍🏻
Every piece of equipment comes with issues. I had a few with my previous Project.
i have a p6 1400euro, not the best, but it can be worse
Sorry to hear about that. What cart do you have mounted?

i think it's strange they know about the problems, but don't do something about it......i am not happy since i have to unpack my p6
🤞🏻Hope you don’t have any issues with the deck.
With rega you need a p10 before it gets hifi everything else is kind of middle stuff
No point for me to get a P10 with all the other components staying the same.
@@fidelios_frequency well said👍
I would hardly call these upgrades.
@@jimbrock1441are you ok?
Another badly misinformed commenter. So turntables $500 and up don't have that much impact on the sound eh? Wow. Just wow.
cartridges are 98% of the sound? laughable ill-informed comment.
Thanks for the advice but I’ll stick with what I have for now. ✌🏻
You're talking shit
@@mikemcguinness1304 I know you’re not directing that comment at me.🙅🏻♂️
🤣 I really think you need a 21st century cartridge
Have you ever listened to a Shure V15VMR? Maybe you don’t know, but Bernie Grundman has it mounted as a playback cart on his cutting lathe. Kevin Gray has it on his home system. Maybe you should educate yourself before you crack jokes.
