    Loving the on-site q&a, esp. the conversational pov style cam! Mark seems like a great person and owner. I was hoping for perhaps just a bit more super composed rage regarding Rough Trade (or other retailers) in this series 😉 Respectfully disagree on Simple Minds Once Upon A Time...3 hit singles, great track flow, their best selling lp, & a RL cut...I have a promo and it sounds incredible.

    • @fidelios_frequency

      @@false_binary Simple Minds OUAT has actually grown on me over the years. Coming off the heels of Sparkle in the Rain (which is one of my favorites of theirs) it was a bit of a let down to me. While it has many great songs on it, I feel it’s not as consistent as the prior album. Also, I think Jimmy Iovine’s production was a bit heavy handed. Marc is really one of the nicest guys in the trade. As for other retailers… let’s see where the series takes me. I would like this to be also informative for people who are visiting NYC to record shop. I guess there are places to avoid that I may feature, but let’s see…😉

      I've been a fan since hearing Impressively Average late last year. I buy physical media and had to wait awhile for the EP, then again for the album. Love 'em. Saw them two nights ago (Sunday Sep 22 2024) in DC. Despite reportedly not being 100% and coughing a few times to clear his throat, Wes was still great, the big magnificent notes were still there... which frankly I don't know how singers do that when a little bit sick, but the best of them usually seem to. The band was awesome. They performed their usual length 14 song show... may have trimmed just a little off a song or two for Wes's benefit, but IDK they even did that. Great show in DC! I hope NYC's was the same and that Wes is feeling better.

    Rega turntables are factory set for use with their cartridges (14mm height). I could be wrong but Rega doesn't offer adjustments for VTA. So, is your Sure cartridge height compatible, and if not were you able to use shims or a mat to get the correct VTA? I know there is a lot of controversy about VTA. I read that 1mm of height changes VTA by less than .25° and as long as you are within 2° there isn't a noticeable sound difference (for us mortals anyway). I ask in part because I have a Fluance RT85 which came with an Ortofon 2m Blue and doesn't have VTA adjustments. Technically, it restricts me to Ortofon 2m series cartridges (18mm). I have a Grado Prestige Blue 3 (17mm) installed and I prefer it to the 2m Blue. It sounds and tracks just fine and I believe it is within .25° at 1mm height difference. According to what I read on VTA .25° for every 1mm of height difference. 4mm would result in 1° forward or back depending on higher or lower. For me, that's close enough. Some folks will break out their microscope but my OCD hasn't gotten there yet. I think most cartridges are designed to be within 2° of tolerance to account for record height, warps, and not all manufacturers cutting their pressings at precisely the same angles. I believe I read somewhere that accepted tolerance off the press is 5°. That kind of makes me suspect that VTA could be a little hyped up to sell more expensive turntables with VTA adjustments to people who believe they need to adjust VTA when going from a thin pressing to a 180 gram pressing or anytime they have a cartridge change with slightly different height. That would drive me insane. Ortofon does make 2m cartridges (14mm) specifically for Rega to match their tone arm height. I'm not sure if you mentioned whether your Rega came with a cartridge or not or if you compared it with your Sure. I'm seriously thinking of upgrading to the Rega as you did. My only concern has been the VTA limitations which could be bunk anyway. I may just buy the Rega with their cartridge and not worry about it. I hear the new ND series are fantastic. Great video. Congratulations on your Rega.

    • @fidelios_frequency
      @fidelios_frequency 8 днів тому

      Thank you for sharing your experience. My Shure cart is 17mm in height. I bought the shims but haven’t mounted them yet. I have the same considerations with regard to VTA and the heights of the different pressings and the mat as well. I’ve actually switched to a thinner rice paper mat which possibly compensates for a bit.

    yeah that's good to use the talcum powder as long as you're not in a high humidity area. a better approach would be to get some kiln dried sand kids play sand blonde sand, you'll need some gloves probably put the sound in the bucket and massage the belt for a good 7 minutes rubbing it aggressively. you want the belt to be dull not shiny. this is same as using the talcum powder but better. see if the belts got any moulding lines concentrate on that area. Rega says they don't I have seen them they do. I'm concerned about your electrics you shouldn't be getting hum that power supply only has neutral and live not earth in the mains, you've got resistance in your mains neutral get electrician to test it. if you use an extension cord a better one might be advisable and having in the first socket. worth getting a ifi mains purifier not expensive. also a 600 ohm resistor on the separate earth wire from the turntable would sort out the same thing.

    I had a scuffed up dust cover as well and was sent a fresh one. The wool mat was smashed and off center. The platter spindle needed lubrication and I finally got some from the rega master distributor. Rega claims to include 2 mm allen head to adjust neo speed but do not. My unit ran fast and no way to slow down enough. I replaced the belt that came with unit with reference belt. Second reference belt once had lubricated both motor and subplatter came with needed allen head tool to adjust neo. Speed seems spot on now. I have an Exact 2 cartridge that I like and a lot of nice gear. The hum is way lower than elys 2 p3 i have I think neo helps and really separation of cables and such. Tbh Rega is a cheap company with good designs. They could and should include lubricants including the motor oil. That ticking was your motor for sure. Congratulations - I appreciated your objective review. I've loved Rega turntables for 30 years, and as they sound very good, I've occasionally had problems with quality or peculiarities. These were moments when I was a little disappointed. But at the end of the day, for the price, you get an enjoyable turntable. 👍

    I tend to agree with you and commenter below . Its true there have been loads of Smiths sound alike bands - Sundays and Housemartins- . The thing about Gene's singer and Wes, is they are paying homage (ripping off ) , Moz voice, subject matter, persona etc ... In Eddie My Love wes says "call me , call me ", which is just like Moz singing "phone me, phone me " there are alot of these . even the subject matter of Eddite is pure moz - Homo affection . Like Martin he also tries to copy the whole stage moves , interests etc etc. . As a band Brigitte Calls Me , are like Oasis... That is to say they lift from all sorts - The Strokes, The KIllers, The Smiths , The LA's etc.. I actually , really like Brigitte , and think the band could be something special

He will get nailed to floor of mozdom and be straggled by the ghost of troubled Moz.., and will end up being a new Jobriath figure , forever known as a mimic , when actually they have a lot more to offer . Keep up the good work

    You missed Franz Ferdinand's first LP, and the Trash Can Sinatra's Re Gene Martin Rossiter was a pure Morrissey rip act , until the public fashion changed then he stabbed him in the back He was accused of bad abuse by his ex-wife, and he also got sacked from his job for sexual harassment for collage at the music college he worked at Re the LP, i agree with what you say but i wouldn't say the singer is better than Morrissey, as Morrisseys voice is completely his own, he may at times, stray into a kind of Elvis but its primal and his. Also he came out his own person, ready made. Jake Rowley has given himself a fake name Wes Levins and is a mimic. so he will never match up to Morrissey.. I know what you meant, though you meant technically better but there are loads of singers who are technically better, but they are not better singers to the heart ...Thats the key If you want to copy the Smiths do it like Suede, they took the spirit and created something as beautiful.. To copy Morrissey like Jake (wes) has , is very high school , he is aping the voice, stage moves, lyrics , and also personas .. When you do this you lack authenticity

    • @fidelios_frequency
      @fidelios_frequency Місяць тому

      I never really considered Franz Ferdinand a Smiths “rip-off”. I viewed them more inspired by New Wave acts like Blondie. I meant that Wes Leavins has a greater vocal range than Morrissey’s. Thanks for watching ✌🏻

      @@fidelios_frequency I wasn't having a moan by the way. I just meant there were a few bands that were smiths alike, Housemartins etc But i see Bridgitte Calls Me Baby (one of the worst band names in the world ) more along the lines of The KIllers and Franz first lp, in as much as they do take from Smiths in feel etc but there are loads of other rips ..The La's etc The difference is , where as franz and Killers, Smoking Popes etc wander into moz vocal style.. Wes (jake Rowley ) is more like Martin from Gene , he is trying to copy Mozers whole singing style, and persona ... This is ok for one lp , but if he doesn't move up a gear, he will get nailed for being a copyist (especially in the UK )

    I remember the first time I heard sexy boy on a Greek music channel... I liked it so much that I waited impatiently for the album to come out. When it was released I immediately ran to buy the cd. And of course it didn't disappoint me... From then until today, every time I hear it, it's like hearing it for the first time. I pre-ordered and created the Discogs record for this (clear) lp because of your ep review; excellent pressing. I streamed the ep a few times and was hooked (never bought, wanted to hear it all at once). I have spinning the lp near daily; absolutely love it end to end (so many influences, "meta indie"). Ty for highlighting the ep, it is always fun to listen to new artists especially when they are this talented!

    Nice review Arnaldo! I really dug the ep. Bought it because of your recommendation. Thanks!! Definitely interested in checking out the lp. It’s a bit disappointing that all the ep songs are on the album. They should’ve left some off to make the ep have some exclusives. I would have preferred them putting out a new ep with six songs. Haha! Glad to see there are band photos on the album. Biggest oversight was no photos on the ep. They have the look, but didn’t use it. Like you, I’m rooting for this band. Cheers, Jon
