next shop update: Ray informs us he's starting up a parts warehouse/shop because he's fed up with waiting
Lol😊😊😊😊
That’s what happened when Napa owns most everything.
and when will he get the brake cleaner pipeline installed? lol
@@jame3shook Yeah, that would have been fricking awesome! 😄😁😄

Ray and Eric O produce so much good stuff... I can't believe they have time to edit and keep entertaining virtually on a daily basis.
I don't subscribe to any other auto techs beside Eric and Ray.
@@MazichMusic Eric the car guy is good too, but he is without a shop right now but still post a few clips here and there to keep us updated.
@@MazichMusic Eric the Car Guy is good (As MrJet30 said, he has no shop atm), but I am into the diagnostics part and also watch DiagnoseDan & Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics along with SMA & RRR.
Comparing Eric O and Ray is apples to oranges, two totally different skill and professional levels. Ray has a long way to go to be anywhere close to Eric’s skill level.
I love Eric O's videos. I wish he could throw them out daily. But he is a busy shop in a small town. Even though everything he posts is quality. Ray is the same gives us quality videos. Eric even mentioned him saying he's a beast doing daily vids.
I had a 1990 Chevrolet Silverado with a 4.3 V6. You couldn't kill that thing. It was unbelievable, ran like new to the day we got rid of it.
Had a 97 1500 with the 4.3. Vortec. I loved that motor. Strong running with good torque. They say about the 4.3 it's a 350 with 2 cylinders cut off. I believe it!
Snack time Rays … I’m gonna have a coffee anyway, tradition😎
I was late
Yea, in on the west coast and 6am with ray and coffee is normal. No ray makes for sad day.
Your comments and word mangling is one of the main reasons why your channel is one of my favorites on UA-cam. I look forward to your videos every day! 🎉
I am surprised that there was no Brake Clean in this episode with all that grease, oil, and gunk built up on the underside of the truck by the 02 sensor. Another good video.
I guess that will come along when the owner agrees to the extra parts change (for maintenance).
@@TrondBrgeKrokli Oh most assuredly, especially if there is an oil change
A "04 Chev W/T with 195K MILES (312K Kilometers for us Canadians) that's literally been driven to hell and back without any preventive maintenance and it's still rolling. Some people still think North American trucks are junk. This proves they're dead wrong. I hope the owner gives Ray the go-ahead for all repairs. That's still a good solid truck with lots of service left in it,yet.
i love what your doing finding the smallest littlest thing and it....i'd like to see more parts of this vehicle if the owners give the thumbs up
Cut up some pool noodles long ways, zip tie them to the support polls on your lifts... Or use pipe insulation... But it helps to have some cushion.

A video Ray made some months back, he commented about a regular viewer parroting what he termed his many goofy expressions. [ Popin z hood, Powering down - DOOoooo, .... gravity ]. I do also myself nowadays. Ok, Ray natters on sometimes, but I do like his turn of phrase. Earthy, grounded and a sprinkle of spice.
Hey, about the broken bolt extractor in subaru block!
You can soften the extractor up with heat to a point where you can drill it out. Easiest heat source in your case is welding. Weld, drill, weld more, drill, weld even more, drill.
Get yourself several cobalt drillbits (HSS-Co5 or Co8) of suitable size. It can be done, I have personally done it few times with good results.
And cut a thick steel mounting plate for a Mag-Drill. 🧲
They have a drill bit just for drilling out extractors
Use a spark eroder it will remove the extractor and bolt some engineering companies will do the process on site
I LIKE the fun with the names! My dad used to say that we were putting the emPHASIS on the wrong sylABLE...
I got that 4.3 engine, still running with 274,000 mile , all those symptoms in that truck happened to my truck at exactly those miles on that one.
4.3 is extremely reliable and very tough
Well, it's basically just a small block with 2 cylinders cut off!
Happy Monday afternoon Ray. Your words makes these videos so enjoyable to watch. Also have yourself a great day. 👍
He’s knowledgeable and easy to follow, have learned a lot from him !
Welcoming back!
Ray, I just want let you know watching your videos is my after work treat! I love working on my car and getting things right. Your videos have helped me learn to look at problem objectively AND understand it's o.k to say I've had too much, time to walk away. Thanks for being you!
I get to enjoy them on my lunch breaks at work.
Love that scan tool. Probably costs more than my car but I want one.
According to Erik O, that would have "The big 4.3!" LoL 😂😆
I use to own a 4x4 Chevy with the 4.3 liter engine--a Great truck-Great Engine, just a 350 with 2 cylinders missing...
Another educational video. Talking about O2 sensor and how it affects the short and long term fuel trims helps to understand why the replacement of the O2 sensor and the need for a tune up per say. Old plugs, wires, cap and rotor can definitely cause misfires as well sooting up the O2 sensor
A failing O2 sensor can cause all of the symptons too.
*Per Se
plugs and wires need to be verified that they are bad otherwise it's just another parts cannon. Same goes for rest of the ignition parts. This is why communication with the customer is so important. .
@@mod_incllc323520 years old mate, I dont think verification is needed. Should have been changed at least 10 years ago as routine.
Please don't stop with the comedy words luv it brings very hardy smile to my face. thanks for all the current diagnostic challenges
That's the mark of experience, right there. You saw these problems and zeroed in on the O2 sensor so fast I barely had time to say "What's up with Bank 1?". Keep up the good work!
Those 4.3's don't die...
Just realized you over halfway to one million subscribers congratulations ❤❤❤
My 2004 Silverado had 335.000 miles on it an it ran like a top loved it miss it

LOL You can tell by that it's been neglected.
One of my favorite things about your videos is seeing whats currently on the racks. I saw that white Subaru on the new rack, and I'm like "yay! More bolt surgery!"
He pulled the engine out to try and extract that broken bolt. If it were my car, I would try to find an engine with less miles to put back in. Personally, me, plenty permatex and a good gasket, I would have put it back together without that bolt, while it was still in that car, being it's age and mileage. It would have been fine. The customer would have to be on the same page, I would not keep it from them. If I understood correctly, I think Ray bought it. The customer may not have wanted to put that much into it. It will be interesting to see what Ray does.
@@jthonn If MY memory serves me correct, he said that the replacement engine he ordered disappeared (as in got stolen or misplaced) somewhere enroute, and he is looking for another one, including replacing it with a 2.2l, instead of the 2.4l. As for buying it, he only mentioned he bought the PT Cruiser, not the Subaru.
@@riaanlouw1874 OK cool, I remember that now. I thought he bought the Subaru, and the engine was for the PT cruiser. My bad, I had it backwards. I stand corrected, thanks.
Hi Ray!
I am on the other coast, but have used a service to electronically ablate the broken tap/ extractor and at times rusted bolts. If there is some one in your area who provides that service, it will be a solution for your Subaru engine.
I've got a 2002 with the 4.3, with the same range of miles, but it has been treated so much better. In fact, once I get off my butt today I'll hopefully be finishing the installation of the new a/c components and it will be blowing cold for another 175k miles.
"silvery-rado" and "rubasu" have become commonly used words in my household (despite the fact that we own neither). Thanks Ray! Keep the goodness coming.

“Rainman Ray language”. Never change. That’s just part of what makes you the best!
Center punch that broken bolt. Drill with small bit straight not askewed, increase size as needed. Use ez out bit , make sure you grab enough broken bolt, drill more if needed.
You probably know, but I’ll say it anyway… I’ve had extractors break off and had good results chipping them out because they are very hard (brittle). Often using tiny tools, like dental instruments. Most of my experience has been in aviation so if you think a Subaru engine is expensive, even a relatively small panel on a jet liner can be $30K+ (including labor).
Keep going TR (Tenacious Ray)!
There's at least a couple of engineering shops near Ray with EDM apparatus, with one of them specifically mentioning the removal of broken off studs.
Can't put in a link, as bloody UA-cam immediately shadow deletes my comment.
Prime candidate to have a stud welded to extractor and get it out. Then drill and tap with thread saver. Also as dry as it is loctite form a thread is an awesome product. Have used it many times as as this is a low torque fastener it would work fine. Properly used it is stronger than aluminum.
@@GARDENER42 Actually that's an site admin function not UA-cam blocking but if you just mention the name of the company or send Ray an Email I'm sure he would appreciate it.
Someone else suggested on a previous video, inserting a small steel tube inside the thread, on to the stud, and a welding rod inserted through the tube, and welding it to the stud. Then, of course, welding a nut to the top. I thought it great lateral thinking. Might work here.
It's the left flangeee on the right engine next to spinney whirly thingy me Bob!
I had a 2007 Silvery-doodoo 4.3L with a screwy thermostat. It would occasionally give me an "overheating" message, turn off the AC and turn the electric radiator fans on high. The coolant temperature gauge was normal, right in the middle. This was a "sticky" error. The only way to clear it was to disconnect the battery (or pull the ECM fuse). Then it would go for months without doing it again. It was most likely to happen on a spring or fall day when the temperature was around 70, And AFTER the engine was warmed up. I finally caught it on a hot day. I was towing my trailer down the freeway and accidentally glanced at the temperature gauge just before the error message popped up. The temperature was normal, but then DROPPED about 10 degrees. I suspect that "negative slope" on the temperature gradient triggered something in the ECM software. It probably decided that the thermostat was unreliable and assumed the worst (overheating) and went into fail-safe mode. A new thermostat cured it.
For the record, SilveRAYdo is a perfectly acceptable pronunciation in Texas. Also, I always assumed you were just sticking your name in there, lol!
I enjoy your comical words, it's fun!
Your play with word pronunciation is one of my favourite things. I keep wanting to replace the word odometer with odometrix 😂
Suggest a fuel filter on this one too, probably another neglected maintenance. Always cool to see how the scanner tells you what's going on. I always thought O2 sensors get sooted so it thinks it's lean so goes rich, then keeps going worse.
Your own rules of diag. #1 battery #2 air filter #3 maf. sensor. Eliminate the obvious first such as the gas cap. Sometimes we are blind to our own advice but we are sure I'm you will get it right 😊
And check egr for heavy deposits
The major tune-up, spark plugs spark plug wires O2 sensors air cleaners camshaft positioning sensor everything wires it is everything and the fuel filter , belts, fix oil leak with fresh oil , diff fluid, greese fittings , needs all and.more
I want that OBD scanner so bad. I have no reason to need it, but that's one hell of a tool.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
all that because 1 o2 sensor that is crazy."
love seeing the wheels turn in your head as you diagnose things.
Love the goofy takes on pronouncing stuff. I literally thought I was the only one who did that kind of thing. Gotta have fun brother, and you definitely make your channel fun for all of us! Great job (yet again!)
I see the nameplate and think "Silvera-Do." Reminds me of some movies I used to watch.

I learn so much, not always what I need to know but the experience with you in general is educational.
Super quick analysis and repair
Nice fix Ray! The coolant temp sensor was in the back of my mind til you showed it was only on one bank, nice job!
Love that "Gravity!"
On the Subaru weld a nut or stud to the extractor and get it out, or chip it carefully with a center punch and chip it out. Then drill the hole out and use loctite form a thread on it. That way you don’t have to be exact on placement. The form a thread is a great product and used properly it is stronger then aluminum. Put water pump back on after packing the hole with compound and put release agent on water pump body and bolt. Turn bolt in till it touches housing and let it set up, remove bolt and water pump and file the surfaces clean. Install pump and tighten normally. Form a thread is a lifesaver and works well as do all loctite products.
Good Repair on the faulty O2 sensor Look forward to seeing the rest of the maintenance @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Hey Ray, be sure to check that fuel pressure regulator located in the intake, If I had a dollar for every one of those I've replaced....
Think that’s one of the reasons I like your vlogs is the deliberate miss pronunciation of models.
As you say it puts a little comedy in the videos.
And your a kick ass mechanic to boot.
A Pakistani auto mechanic can get that screw out, Cubins are pretty good also and easy to find in Florida. What makes them good at things like this is that back in their countries they had no option but to get it done.
That Subie motor, I'd plan on using a Heli-Coil. The dril bit will be oversized. It's going to take a minute to drill out that hardened extractor. If it was me, I'd strip the block down, have a machine shop do it, because they can make the hole straight, then rebuild (or performance build, depending on the customer) the engine.
I always put high temp anti-size on them exhaust probes.. That way you both lube the threads, and make sure it can be removed at a later date.
Good Job Ray
This was great for me. I have an O2 Sierra with a 4.3. it helps me directly.
This is why I always every 6 months like clockwork run a can of B1 barramens through my fuel system , and once a yr through the induction,,, mostly in the fall before winter ,,,, it keeps my system clean and well in all the vehicles I have owned never had a problem with O2s or my cats ,,,,,,,,,,

Nice video with a FIX and now comes the tune-up. Hope the customer is smart enough to listen to you.
Yeah cause the other things can contribute to the sensor failure.
quick fix well done. just wanted to add that those engines signal the cps when they have a bad misfire or are out of timing by default. have to clear it and see if it comes back to see if its actually valid, after its had a bad misfire.
Another great video, thanks for putting out so many great videos.
Classic 2000 Era chevy truck, interior trim deteriorating, maintenance iems neglected because they actually lasted and are now failing. I love all your car nicknames 😊
Ray that was a nice job diagnosing. Many mechanics would have done all the tune up stuff first and would still have the issue of the 02 sensor. Great order of operations, instead of the parts cannon. Have a good one.
I would have done the maintenance first. You cant expect one thing to be wrong on a 20 year old truck. I'm not convinced its the O2 sensor on this truck.
@@ChrisEngland-yc4wy Oh I agree it needs a whole lot more. The order in which it gets done is what I'm getting at. The O2 sensor was screwing up, but that is not all it needs.
Your 'nickname' for Nissan is the correct way to say it. It's the US advertisers that said it wrong and no one knew the difference before it was too late to fix.
Knee sarn? Dart son?
Subaru bolt extraction, could use an induction coil to focus heat just on bolt. Weld stud on roken bolt then place coil over protruding stud. Good results when done before.
Every time that drivers door opens , it sounds like Tales From The Crypt ! LOL !😄

I most certainly have several dozen tools I've lost because i placed it somewhere special so I'd remember its location..... Have fun on the job it very cool ! You personality makes your videos enjoyable. Keep it up !
How I removed a broken stud,
Step 1, drill a small pilot hole into the stud,
Step 2, enlarge the pilot hole with the next size up drill bit, (Note in your situation, step 1 should be enough because it’s a small stud)
Step 3, tap a reverse thread into the stud
Step 4, screw in a reverse thread bolt into the stud until the bolt bottoms out and continue screwing forcing the reverse action to remove the broken stud.
Hi On that broken bolt, you may want to try left hand drill bits. Yes they make them.
so old its got a 'thatched 'hood vent! in the UK we only thatch old houses
Nothing wrong with a play on words 👌
Parts are taking forever alright! I've been waiting 4 days for a Ranger fuel pump🤔😁
