Filmed in December 1985 at the Hammersmith Odeon, 'Chronicle' does more than justice to what was a truly epic performance from the undisputed 'kings of acid-rock overkill'. The narration is provided by Michael Moorcock, whose writings inspired the music and stageshow. Packed with suitably obscure psychodelic images and bizarre OTT stage antics, this RE-ISSUE now includes the 4 track enocore where Michael Moorcock performs onstage with the band.

Brings tears to these old eyes, watching this. What a shining light he was. R.I.P. HLL never forgotten while we Hawkfans draw breath.
Nice sound.. wish I would have seen them live... All we have as a record of their existan ece is/are these.thaks fer posting...way far out....man
Some guitarists need to play a hundred notes to move your soul huw could do it in 5
Too right, may he be up there now in Hawk Heaven
mattthetoadlicker couldn’t put it better !! Great comment 👌🏻
Can't stop thinking bout your comment... guitar sound, atmosphere...and that heavenly voice. Epic performance.
I was in the audience for this gig.
It was more than just music, it was so powerful I got anxious because I knew it had to end.
You were so lucky!
I met him , gave him a lift up to the white horse Wiltshire, where they played from the front of a bender . Amazing . Brilliant guitarist . Bless him .
Yeah, Both nights at Odeon. This was a real draw dropper...
Jaw! In same mindset I was in 85😁
I was there too 🎼🎶🎶🎵🎵🎧❤️💥🎸
This song touches every single nerve in my body and brings a tear to my eye,the genius of Hawkwind and the sweet melancholy of Elric make this my most favourite track ever from anyone.
What can u say
What can u say it's always like yesterday when u hear it ..
All timeless
exactly bro!
There's no doubt about it, Huw Lloyd-Langton was a fantastic and very under-rated musician. I was lucky enough to see probably a dozen Hawkwind gigs with him as lead guitarist.
This is the most awsome tune from the most awsome time in my life . HAUNTING .
R.I.P Hew.
what a melancholy song, and so true to the character of Moonglum.
Yeah. To put Moonglum on the album would've been better, or a single. Live albums only one it's on. Ruthless tune.
The best I can say of Huw is that when I re-read the Elric books I hear him sing and play. He is part of the poetry of that world
Awsome books too.
lmao... moorcock was a shitty writer.
perhaps the most underrated lead guitarist. RIP HUW
Underrated, but not bitter, just a really great guy.
BTW, your YTube name is my avatar, I think she might date back to 63/64
gibson sg must be because am old now didn’t know Hll was no more took few mind alternating drugs back then
Totally agree, as good as Eric Clapton, if not better....just my opinion.
I never liked Clapton to be honest.
As is Mr brock ❤
Hugh was a great guitarist.Sadly missed by all Hawkwind fans and musicians.
I always loved Huw's guitar sound. Nothing like it. Brock is smiling. He knows they sound good.
Huw is as good as Eric Clapton in my eyes!!!!
@@nickcox3026 yep the man could play for sure and sorley missed
TheOmanJam love your comment about brock. Listen if they sound good it’s for release on a format ! That makes Dave happy because it’s more Greenback for the man !!!
@@darrenbaker8144 yeah, but. . . Hawkwind wasn't going to rake in the bucks(pounds, whatever) with their releases. Brock's expression is one of, I think, joy in knowing in knowing what a great incarnation of the band this was.
@@written12 believe me I know promotors that say Dave is Quite ruthless , fair play we all love the stuff ,it’s the way of the world , Im a massive fan of Hawkwind but at the end of the day it’s about the Greenbck not lyrics!!
Great band was at Stone henge 1975 76 also have always been a michael moorcock fan saw them at the corn exchange on their warrior at the edge of time tour the days live on in memory hail the hawk lords
Class act in so many ways. We were blessed. Lyrics pure poetry ->
Moonglum, friend without a reason
Moonglum, friend without a cause
Embarrassed by a show of love
But would stand by the man of the feeble blood
This bond meant much more to him
Than a kingdom offered by a queen
No words for this silent trust
As the Sword goes on to sate its lust
Moonglum and Elric hunting Theleb K'aarna
Myshella now replacing Queen Yishana
See them travel through open skies
See the amazing steel bird fly
Armies stand, soon to fall
Sorcery is the tune they call
Pitting wit against flesh and gall
Timeless searching in timeless halls
Wandering out to meet his death
To find this was no release
Searching for some sort of ease
Denying feelings that made him weak
Moonglum and Elric hunting Theleb K'aarna
Myshella now replacing Queen Yishana
See them travel through open skies
See the amazing steel bird fly
❤️
ありがとうございました😊
Thanks you for the lyrics 👽🕳️
If you can understand them when you listen....
Thanks for the lyrics 👍
wiping tears from my face, the absolute magic of Hawkwind, moved to the roots of my being. Thank you.
Was there...
Loved this Gig..
Rest easy, Huw..
Much missed❤
best hawkwind track never recorded in the studio but then who cares this is awesome - RIP hugh
It was, I have a copy
@@justinmorgan2126 My tape wore out in the for being overplayed in the car,i wish now that i had made a backup copy the whole concert was magnifico,i last saw Hawkwind in July 2018 at Weymouth Beach Theatre sadly minus Nik T and Dave B had put on weight the concert was sold out,the fans there mainly men of a certain age!
I still think Zarozinia is slightly better.
Chronicle of the Black Sword.
@@stubmandrel not on that album unless you have some live bootleg version
No idea why this was only on Chronicles live. Best song they did at this time
Therefore, it makes 'Chronicles Live' a very special album.. I bought a vinyl copy the other day.. woww!!
@@ephrimvael Live Chronicles is certainly one of the top 3 Live Hawkwind albums ever.
Both as a supreme guitar player and and a super vocalist.
Who? Dave? lol
@@nodiggity9472 A meant HUL, but the same applies for mr Brock...
Was privileged to have him teach me the intro and the chords: a truly great guitarist and musician and as honest and open a human as anyone I've met.
A great memory I'm sure, feeling slightly jealous :)
It's such a loss he's no longer here :(
I am not a special person - Huw would teach or speak to anyone anytime
Andy Mackie Huw was a real gentleman.
Andy Mackie you lucky blighter ;-)
Tell me the intro please love this song 🎵
I saw this gig live in 85, it absolutely blew my mind, a couple of White Lightning helped of course but no one can deny the Hawks then were surely at their peak, Huw guitar work is just amazing and beautiful, I cry to a lot of this albums tracks, coupled with the fact that his voice is so trippy, it just works, so sad to see Huw no more, very sadly missed!
Wow, bet it was amazing!
@@nickcox3026 it was Nick, a night etched in memory never to be forgotten, I was at the front at the feet of Dave, Alan and Hew, the whole atmosphere was medieval in a sense because of the clothes they wore, the theme of the album and so on, yeah it switched me on to Hawkwind in a big way, I actually managed to persuade my mum and younger brother to come along they sat up in the seats, I think it blew them away too and they were on nothing lol
@@alanburgess2203 I'm not jealous....honest lol Think I was only 6 years old at time and hadn't even heard of Hawkwind. Truly a unique band.
The best hawkwind song. best lyrics. best solo. so addictive.
Absolutely. Well said. So glad I got to see Hawkwind with Hugh in the band.
Fantastic music. Seen them loads of times. RIP HLL
Grew up listening to their music and still listening 35 years later!
Simply the best band in the morning sky
Without a doubt ..we are so lucky..I'm sick of trying to educate people..sod em ..keep it in the hawk family my friend ❤❤❤❤
Quality tune...chronicles massively underrated ❤
Alan Davey looking very impressed with Huw's performance at 3:40!
Legends 😎👍
Best Hawkwind song since the 70s
Still my favorite song of hundreds !! Long live the hawk !! In us ! And all around us !!!
This was Hawkwind at their very best, supercharged chemistry between them all. Huw was the nicest human being i ever had the honour of calling my friend...
For me personally, Hawkwind during one of their highest points. Huw Loyd Langton and Alan Davey, such a great combination, they are so in-sync working together.
There is a look between them at 3:40 that goes beyond words and shows how in tune they are with each other.
One of Huw's great songs.
We miss you mate!
@Motoroil Year, always brings a few tears to my old eyes.
globulant99 he’s genius ! Onward fly’s the Bird ✊🏻
There is a turn around and look and smile from Brock, right after a cool Bass run and Huw singing at 2:23, that says , yea, this is great.
Yeah, the way Alan looks at Huw says it all
It's a great song. Love rocky paths too.
HHL was world class! Seen him play many times, tasteful at all times & he played with the utmost of decorum. Brock knows they sound good here. R. I. P Huw Lloyd Langton ✌️☀ peace.
I had the privilege to meet Huw and Marion at the 2009 bday celebration and told him how I loved his distinctive style, fresh, positive sounding tone and playing skill. That is one of the most satisfying moments of my life so far. He was genuinely stoked that I held him in such high regard. Marion is lovely too. Its a good day when you meet your fav musicians and they are as cool as you think they are. Just wish he was still with us...
I'll always regret never seeing this lineup ..seen before and after and now ..I'll see the fan family in Newcastle this year ...the greatest band to ever deserve the oxygen we breathe . End ..my opinion of course..😂 this is your captain speaking your captain is ❤❤❤❤
Amazing tune. Never fades.
fantastic song, world class, brings tears to my eyes. delivered with conviction
A big part of hawkwind that is gone but never forgotten.
Saw the Black Sword tour in Sheffield in 1985 and Moonglum was by far the standout of the entire gig. How often can you say that about a song that no one in the audience had heard before?
I love all the different eras and lineups of Hawkwind but HLL was by far my favorite guitarist they've ever had.
Dave knows their playing well, just take a look at that smile on his face bloody brilliant.
I bloody love this song it's Great!
Big hawkwind fan what happened to this legend 😢
What an excellent song it’s been an inspiration to me countless times and I remember meeting y’all when you did the first space days festival back in New York quite some time ago. Happy to see and listen to every note one of the best psychedelic punk metal bands ever. Texas author Michael Moorcock is also totally brilliant, and the combination of the two has been simply superb. Long Live Elric and Moonglum. Proving brotherly love, and also an excellent camaraderie to work through life, thick and thin together. ~ respectfully Reverend Adam 656.
What a track! I don't think there can be much that comes close to this performance. Wish I'd been there... RIP Huw Lloyd Langton
Huw Lloyd-Langton was a criminally underrated guitarist.
Brilliant Guitar player with an amazing vocal presence .
Easily up there with Eric Clapton, Angus Young and Slash....just to name a few.
@@nickcox3026 Totally agree with that- he had a melodic sense that maybe the other three didn't.
@@timskelton4383 I call Huw the best guitarist most people haven't ever heard of!!!!
@@nickcox3026 That absolutely nails it!
Hello hawk family..we know who we are ..we are the best ..I love you all .this is your captain speaking your captain is dead 😂❤❤❤❤❤
Absolutely Timeless
I've loved Hawkwind since I was in middle school. Elric was the gateway for me; my dad would listen to this album, Live Chronicles, and would tell me about Elric and his tales. Soon thereafter, I became a fan in my own right. To this day, this album is my favorite of theirs, and this song my favorite for sure.
It’s like a pop song, luv it, thank u mr Hu
So glad I got to see the band play this live in 2000. The Hawkestra gig was a mess in a lot of ways, but it still stands as a singular, irreplaceable evening.
R.I.P Huw..saw him play many times..played Rocky Paths just for me in Nelson, Lancs 1990..great guy.
went to amsterdam in the early 80` to see them play for 2 nites at the mlky way club best i ever saw them, huw was on fire, caught the ferry back with the band what a nice bunch of boys. been following them since 77, met huw 4 times over that period such a layed back guy, beautiful song and recording thanks for upload, takes me back 30 years
Thanks huw, THE sound of Hawkwind and tooting ska moon were my life, blessings to ALL technicians of spacehip " Hawkwind"
Amazing vocals by Huw and Alan too.
My fave HLL song. Saw him perform this at Hammersmith in 88, and then I saw HLL solo acoustic gig at the Kings Head pub in Fulham. Everyone cross-legged on the floor and way cool peaceful vibe. What makes it more special is that I recorded both gigs on a Sony Professional walkman, so I can still reminisce
Paul Watson I saw Hawkwind at the Roadmender in Northampton and Huw supported with just a twleve string and perched on the edge of the stage level with the crowd. It was fucking awesome, especially "In search of space"
Got to say this was the best Hawkwind gig I ever saw. They were tight, coherent and really with it as a band. Obviously lots of practice but also the musicianship just gelled.
Love me some Hawkwind
Love me some Cure.
Does anyone else hear 'Just like Heaven' ?
Yeah I saw them when this album came out. They had a glorious lightshow but also they were really tight.
For me this is the best line up in Hawkwinds history.
Same
Not only was he an amazingly original and innovative guitarist, but he had a great voice too.
in the list of unknown greats..Huw is number 1.
ive had to make folk listen to him for years, only hawkwind fans and a few others know his work.
when they hear him, they remember him though ;-)
I love HLL's playing style and sound, and his voice, and his compositions. Unique combination.
Hairs just stand up all over my body listening to Huw!!! God bless you and thanks for the inspiration
I was at this gig, the last track before HW came on was the Joe 90 theme, we were "unsteady" at the time and absolutely loved it! Cracking night.
Don't remember Joe 90, but Song of the swords got my attention. Great tour.
I had the privilege of seeing Huw LL on a few occasions. First was 87 on the Xenon tour which is one of the best gigs I've ever seen. Huw was such an awesome guitarist, his tone and sense of melody was up there with the best. Great guy, I would have loved to seen him one more time.
I was there too brother. 🤗
Saw him in 1988 sang this track too such a special night
still one of the best concerts i ever went to.
This song made me research Michael Moorcock. Gimme Hawkwind any day lol
It was the other way around for me. In 82 I was researching a book report in high school on Michael Moorcock. Looking into his musical alliances lead me to Hawkwind. Been a huge fan since the first album I played!
Bloody Outstanding, good old HLL may he RIP. Never forgotten 👍
Absolutely Andy, he had something special.
Melody, soul, genius
Berak jaio zan Hakwind en jotzeko ta eroi arte, berantzako ezkerrak
Best version of Moonglum by far just love it ! RIP Huw , you absolute LEGEND !
Great song brings me back to my coal mine days when just 20 years old 😊
Great song, great line-up, Huw's voice is great. Great great great.
I saw them twice around this time, once at the De Montfort Hall in Leicester, I was right at the front, Dave Brock's sweat was all over me at the end... happy days.
One of the best!
Leeds Uni on the same tour. Drove from Hull there. Left car near the Uni. Great gig. Drive home but no car - nicked! Hey Ho.
Don't believe there's a Studio Version of this. Awesome song!
Unfortunately, I am almost positive there is not, at least not officially released. My research of the band is not tops, but I am very familiar with their back catalogue.
This version from Live Chronicles is still amazing!
I might be wrong but.....im pretty certain there is a version on the night of the hawks 12" single ?
Great! Live Chronicles is an excellent album, sadly I never got to see them live.
Great gig..
Goosebumps every single time
My go to hll/hawkwind tune, saw this live back in the day, praise to michael Moorcock 🙌
had a pint with Huw in the pub opposite the Ipswich Gaumont before a Hawkwind gig in 1980 something..magic times...
Met Huw outside the cathouse in Glasgow a few years back when he was supporting hawkwind, put me on the guest list that night. Thanks for the music and the memories Huw. One year today, very much missed.
Huw, one of the most underrated guitar players ever.
I was there that night, oh what a show!
Sort of got to know Huw a little bit (only a little though) at his own shows later, damned fine chap he was too, may he RIP.
Ashamed to say this may be the first time I've heard this song and I've followed Hawkwind for 40 years, mainly as a '70-'79 material fan. Lovely sound on this vid; smooth but heavy, just the way I like it.
Richard Markham Same here! I've just posted it to youtube for more info. wow Bril
Well going on the number of albums they've made, and the relative obscurity of the only one this appeared on (Live Chronicles), we'll let you off.
Huw one of our best guitarists, amazing, seen him back in the day in small pubs.
This band never knew how to retain talent. This guy is the best of all their guitar players.
Non esistono espressioni, sorrisi, chiacchiere che non possano sostituire il feeling che si instaura attraverso la MUSICA!
Great tour and unforgettable memories. Met Huw and Marion in Nottingham playing with his own band. Still see Hawkwind now but not the same.
Whenever I am at my lowest. I come back to this. It hurts with its beauty but somehow keeps me going. Hawkwind really are the masters of the universe.
Excellent song... pfff... so many hours I've spent with this tune... wonderful version :)
I was blessed with meeting Huw and Marion for a chat in 2009 at the anniversary gig. A more lovely guy and couple you couldn't meet. I'm so glad I got to thank him for his wonderful guitar playing style. We had a chat about his distinctive set-up and about playing in Leo Sayers band.. I can't listen to Levitation or Chronicles without a tear in the eye .. If there's a better place to transcend to - Huw is definitely there!
Would love to have been at this gig 💓
The heart and the best . Thank you for 1983 mate RIP
I so wish I Was there. Timeless and at his best
! God bless you hugh
Me to. This is my favourite line up.
I have never heard this before. I love it.
How could anybody not love this song...rip Huw Lloyd Langton..x
agreed, its incredible..............maybe the subject throws folk off lol
RIP Huw Lloyd Langton, was lucky enough to see him with Hawkwind in 2002 with Tim Blake in the line up a great gig!
@Jessy Topcat ..Huw died Dec 2012 from cancer.. he was 61 years old.... a true legend and all round nice guy... truly missed..
Was it 2012? God, seems like only yesterday :(
Love this song so much. Was at the 85 Hammy Gig - brings back memories of better times
I saw them at Newcastle on this tour and at Hammersmith on the Live Chronicles tour the following year. Just awesome
saw Huw perform this in 1988 in Birmingham brilliant so brilliant so glad I was there
I'd give my right arm to see this tour again.. Phenomenal
I'm a child of that generation. Since I did Lemmy was a member and sang the silver machine. A great guitar player and vocalist. Really good atmospheric sound. I was born one year of the concert.
This is very much late Thin Lizzy stuff, with updated guitar tone.
This and Needle Gun.. I listen thousands times. I really can not live without it Some things hard to tell...
I was at that gig. I’d taken two black microdots. The experience was epic, mindblowing. I left still tripping and my ears ringing. I was young and reckless. I wish now that I’d been sober and enjoyed the performance for what it was. I was young and heavily into hallucinogens at the time. When I went and saw Motörhead I was cracking the whip hard on speed. It was so incredible that I saw Motörhead a number of times afterwards. Most of the times I was using speed, sometimes I was sober as a judge. They were always amazing, but in my opinion Motörhead were better when experienced on speed.
“speed don’t kill and I’m the proof”. 😤
sidenote; moonglum is the unsung eternal hero of moorcocks elric multiverse and really imo his self sacrifice is what brought in the new world at the end of time. xoxooxo
Spoilers! But a good read of the character, yes
