    Thank you so much for making this. I'm a t6 complete, only 11 months post accident, but I really miss traveling. I was even considering a Mitrofanoff procedure, but if I can get as good as you are with transfers, it should be ok.

    You affect this world perhaps more than you think. You make me realize that I'm so lucky to have most things in my body work well for many years now. I'm grateful for the low number of disabilities I have to overcome or deal with. One day soon a great miracle in medicine will change your life.

    I love all of your videos Kathryn. You are truly inspirational. I am recently wheelchair bound as a result of spinal stenosis. I purchased hand controls for my car (after watching your video) and they work just fine. My question is, which wheelchair do you use and how did you choose it? I don't think the wheels come off of mine. Thanks again for your great videos.

    Rehab, had some fun with my rehab nurses during the training for release day, transfers were easy so one told me its more difficult when you are naked, I quipped you didn't have to get me in the bathroom to get me naked, boy did she blush, by the time it got to bed transferring she and her partner were across the room, I told them I didn't bite, I was well known to have a pretty dark sense of humor, coping mechanism due to my surgery didn't go as planned, MRSA outbreak in triage, I was left infected at rehab with a doc trying to cover it up, I had gotten quite sick, so when I finally made it back to rehab after my second surgery, I was very difficult. I was caught outside the building rolling around on the sidewalks building my strength back up, being in a hot pink chair I was not hard to miss, its the best thing you can do to get ready to go home, build up your ability to push the chair, find your technique. Bathroom is best with a roll around shower chair, tho I did enjoy a bench over a traditional tub, shoot off the bench into the tub and sit the bench out and you can take a bath, put the bench back in and you can lift yourself back on it with a rail and the lip of the tub, fold down bench is best as it lifts out of the way.
    If you get spasms that refuse all oral treatments you can get a baclofen pump, it can totally wipe out spasms, but activity must be limited, as in no leaning and twisting, like wrenching on vehicles, the motion of changing a tire can flip the pump and cause some serious damage, leading to surgery to fix it, guess how I know.

      @Maples01 Рік тому

      Wait 20+ years and NO, it does not get better, you just learn to accept it and move on, things will worsen with age, takes about a year for your body to adjust, where you know the dos and don't, keep your eye out for pressure sores.

    You are the most beautiful person I've seen in and out. I can relate to your disability a little bit. Although my legs aren't fully paralyzed. I have this disability called spina bifida. Which is a birth defect. I have no sensation down my foot all the way up to my ankle. Although I can move them a little bit. My right leg is a little worst than the other. I use one crutch to move around. I can walk to anywhere I want. But can't drive. Atleast not yet. I am still working on that. And I have a shunt on the back of my head. A while back I got my shunt replaced with a new one. I can ride a bike, make my way back to where I need to be. Living pretty much a normal life. Alhumdullilah.

    My wife recently had incomplete spinal cord damage from a failed spinal implant surgery that caused a blood clot that left her with limited movement in left leg and almost none in her right. She's currently in rehab and we'll find out what she is capable of doing. I'm trying to learn how and what I can do for her. She's 67 and I don't know what is in store for her now. Thank you for sharing.

    People build up strength in the areas they need as time moves on, right after any accident you have no idea what’s what & how you will cope, that’s why they tell you at rehab you need lots of things. You still have a paddled seat on you wc at home? 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍

      @David Butterworth I have a T4 injury and it is really hard when wet. My spasms happen at random times. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing it can happen whenever and that’s why I take certain pills to help with the spasms! They don’t completely stop them though.

    I’m having some health issues with my joints, but we had a family trip planned for New York City. This ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxuxJwamLFanm476LC5WPeTouyyU1GXomC was perfect! It’s lightweight enough that my friend could carry it up or down stairs when we needed to. (I can walk very short distances) It was comfortable for me to sit in, I would say if you’re super tall it might be a little cramped. I’m 5’1” and the foot rests were the perfect height. This may not be the best one for long term use, you get what you pay for, but for something that fits our budget that gives me accessibility while we deal with my health this was amazing.

      As much as pray for healing, I am also a realist. I don't think you should say things like this because it's a false hope. I've researched so much, trying to find an example of someone who could walk normally after paralysis. I couldn't find one that was a success story. Be careful about telling people that God will heal them. Yes, miracles happen, but the spinal cord doesn't grow back together.
