Did you mention you can split the bridge humbucker with the pull up tone. I had problems with mine playing out of time with the 09 strings so I switched to 10s and solved that problem. I'm basically an acoustic player and press harder on the strings . I finally figured that out and everything is fine. Don't get a $50 amp to play through
    This guitar deserves better.

I’m tempted by both the Duo Sonic and the Fender Player Jazzmaster you reviewed. I play a lot of blues, punk, grunge etc so which would you recommend?

Sorry it took me so long to get to this.
It depends on your scale length preference and if you want to deal with a tremolo

I've had one of these for about a year now. I've used it for recording, jamming at home and for gigging. I find there are pros and cons for it..
    The pros:
Pro #1 this guitar is light as a feather, easiest guitar I've ever played. The neck is extremely comfortable and fast.
Pro #2 The bridge pick-up is amazing, especially for grunge rock. It sounds absolutely amazing with distortion.
Pro #3 Very affordable, especially if you find one used on Reverb or Facebook Market
    The cons..
Con #1 even after getting it set up professionally, the intonation is an issue. I find myself battling with tuning during gigs and it's become a liability. (I use 11's on it)
Con #2 The only pickup that has any life is the bridge pickup. The middle position and neck pickup just sound dull in comparison. And the coil split sounds even worse, very flimsy tone, it's cool to have the feature, but for the style of music I play, I have no use for it.
It's great for casual play but I would not recommend using it for a gig. It has really grown on me but I'm on the verge of selling it to make room for a more trustworthy guitar for gigging.

Swap the volume pot for a stack 250/500k. on the HSS. Stock pots are close to 500k. Which makes that neck pickup harsh.

      Couldn't tell you, honestly.
But with thick enough strings, a slight truss rod adjustment and and intonation adjustment? I'm assuming it would be just fine.
