I feel extremely privileged to be alive to hear this man play. Something about the way he constructs phrases has some crazy nostalgia for me.

I will never forget this person for the rest of my life, and I will never forget this music either.

so much ragtime is just slick keyboard athletics; this is puts music first

Oh wow, I love Tom's original compositions so much, maybe more than anything else. I make sure to always have some Tom Brier wherever I'm going

So true to genre and tradition, but oh so refreshing with that toney joplinesque I crave. It really hits the spot. I've devoured rag time over the years, a million times over, but hearing Brier just perks my spirit. He is a once in a generation talent and I'm grateful to have found his work.

Tom was rear-ended by a large truck in the middle of 2016, and was in a medically-induced coma for about a month. Unfortunately, he can only play basic chords in his left and very simple melodies in his right and seldom speaks so much as a word. It is doubtful he will ever be able to play at this level again.

What a great showpiece for Tom's skill in composition and variations -- and an exercise in self-control ... up to a certain point! Blue Lampshade falls into a new category of music: romantic ragtime. (up to a certain point). I agree with Ozarka741 - listening to it over and over. Thanks for a fine recording, 'rifle.

Glad you enjoy.... He is a supreme talent.......As of Sept 2 2016 he is still in a coma after a tragic auto accident 4 weeks ago, where he was stopped and hit from behind. We all pray he recovers. ..........VBR

@@verybigrifle how he is today ?

@@autumnwinter3639 I haven't heard in a while. The last time on a site that posts updates seems to be closed or discontinued? But he will never recover to play again. His parents made their home wheel chair accessible and are taking care of him. His brain damage was severe and too much damage to ever recover. Such a tragedy. Thanks for asking.......VBR

@@verybigriflesuch devastating news 😞 do you know if he can still talk at least?

Haven’t heard anything in couple years but I think speech was difficult then. Traumatic brain damage from car wreck that was another driver’s fault. What a tragedy.

For slow music, try playing The Entertainer very slow. That brings out so much pathos in the piece...

He's a genius. I saw another version of his playing from Keeper1st's channel which is fantastic. This is beautiful as well.

@Chris246t8kr ..As mentioned I have heard this song since it was new. Approximately 9 yrs ago he played it still written on binder paper. At that time it was his latest "Hot Rod" composition and the way I have heard it since, until this late after hrs playing. It was a surprise to me and since listening to the intracacies of it, I really like it. Tom does play and compose slower stuff, and more often now as he is approaching 40 :-) ANother side of his skills he is revealing. Thanks Chris-VBR

I wonder if he purposely telegraphed the one-step at 2:37.

oh, and considering how it ends, I would say that rather than "melancholy" it was a very fine tease

This slower version sounds like the credits theme for a show or movie.
