  • On March 18th of this year, the Poor Clare Order celebrated the 8th Centenary of the investiture of St. Clare . At our monastery, we were able to celebrate in the best possible way: by having an investiture ceremony ourselves! Postulant Joscelyn Voight followed in the footsteps of our Mother St. Clare and became Sister Mary Angelique of the Infant Jesus. This video shows the simple, yet dramatic and symbolic transformation of a Poor Clare postulant into a white veiled novice. For more information, please visit our website at www.poor-clares.org

St Clare please look after our dear Claire in heaven, a kindly soul taken by cancer, and only just a mother, the tears we have cried only reflect our love for her, God rest her Soul with all the blessed saints and her loving faithful Irish family in Heaven.

...it points us to living only for God's love. It shows us that nothing is too hard to give up of for God. Celibacy shows married people what is the goal of their marriage (to be God's completely, to be united with him in heaven) and marriage shows consecrated people how great is God's love. In marriage we see in a symbol how Christ loves his Church, but in celibacy one lives that reality even here on earth, by the grace of God who enables a person to live in this way, and by his calling.

At times I've felt the need to be called and yet have a difficult time trying to pick out an order to belong to and a name to choose from since there are quite a few I like to reflect both my personality and spirituality. If I did choose a name I feel in some ways it should reflect the spirit and history of the order I belong to, including its saints. For example, if I wanted to be a Passionist nun, I would love to have been called Sister Maria Dolori (which means 'sorrows' in Italian in reference to Our Lady of Sorrows) of the Cross and Crown or Maria Magdalena of the Passion; As a Dominican, I'd select Maria di Sancta Rosaria (Mary of the Holy Rosary (part of my given name and confirmation names), among others. I'm guessing when one enters into a religious community and is fully committed to that service, even some of the postulants and novices find themselves in a similar quandary. After all, they're in this for life and in an eternal commitment to their Bridegroom, whose love is infinite and unconditional. I presume this requires a lot of prayer, thought and study, however.

I have been intrigued by this notion shared by people like No Facist Ideologues, that is, one is "wasting life" by doing something like entering the monastic life. Is there a specific standard as to what exactly constitutes a fulfilled life? I have always figured it to be "happiness", or more specifically "happiness found in one's relationship with God" - but that is me, YMMV. Having lived in a monastic setting as a seminarian, I can vouch that the ones I knew in monastic life were indeed quite happy and fulfilled. They worked, they taught, they traveled, they had fun. Their food was basic but completely natural (grown on their farm!) and they raised their own funding. Most importantly, they were at peace. Sounds like a good choice! I wish Sister Angelique well and hope she finds the same.

as someone who is looking in to being a nun its very personal to each person but I see my calling as a sharing my faith with other. I see my bearing fruit as bringing people closer to god the creator of our being. It not about being married it about LOVE. LOVE is also sacrifice and it not an easy option to choose either. Earthly marriage is our best metaphor for our relationship with Christ, yet the reality far transcends the image as a person surpasses his portrait. In the heavenly kingdom, to serve is to reign! We have chosen to live in the freedom of Cod's children rather than be enslaved in the self-ism promoted by the secularist society.

What about giving up family, doing things on her bucket list, becoming a mother, a career? Is she losing out as some would say? Perhaps but...
"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then IN HIS JOY went and sold all he had and bought that field. "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.” Matthew 13:44-46
Does she look happy? Oh yeah, as happy as a bride on her wedding day.
In today's society, being religious is pretty embarrassing...won't people will ridicule and look down on her. Perhaps but...
'So if anyone declares himself for me in the presence of human beings, I will declare myself for him in the presence of my Father in heaven. Matthew 10:32
    What about giving up things?
Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me….Jesus looked at him and said, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!" Luke 18:22-24
She is choosing God over the distractions, busyness, joys and sorrows of a normal life. Is she getting the short end of the stick?
“…She had a sister called Mary, who sat down at the Lord's feet and listened to him speaking.
Now Martha, who was distracted with all the serving, …my sister is leaving me to do the serving all by myself…Please tell her to help me.' But the Lord answered, 'Martha, Martha,' he said, 'you worry and fret about so many things…and yet few are needed, indeed only one. It is Mary who has chosen the better part….' Luke 10:39-42
No sex, partying, romance, freedom to do what she wants and always being told what to do?
"Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. Matthew 16:24-25
Thanks be to God that he still calls those He has chosen to be a beacon, a witness for all of us in the Body of Christ in the midst of our daily lives, to the message that this transitory life is not the purpose and end-all our existence.

In heaven we will be "partakers of the Divine Nature", One with Christ. Further, this Nuptial connotation is spiritual, not physical, and therefore virginal. These beautiful women are only doing on earth what we all will be doing in heaven. This is nothing new, the early Church fathers taught this from the very beginning of the Church. Hi, I wanted to ask, how to know If you are called to a contemplative monastery? All I think about is being a nun, being with God all the time. Is it possible that, if you desire so much to give all your life to God, he's calling you to do that. I read somewhere that these kind of dreams can only come from God, and If you really want to become a nun, it means that The Holy Spirit comes to your heart with these wishes. And one more question, is it bad, that I don't want to study after finishing school and right after it, I want to enter the monastery? What about Joscelyn? She didn't study? And how Joscelyn find out, that God is calling her to be a nun?
P.S. This video touched my heart so much. And what are these beautiful songs on the this video. :)

Dear Jurinta, It sounds like you might be called! The best way to find out is to visit a contemplative monastery and spend some time there. Write to the superior and ask to come for a visit and an interview. It is not bad to not want to study after finishing school. When God calls, you want to respond right away! The songs are from a group called Regnum Christi. Yes, I did hear about the Imagine Sisters. God bless them! I am not much of a music fan so I shut it off. It seems strange to me that so many will critize those picking up their cross and following the Lord. Yet offer no insight beyond except to attack others as though they serve the Lord. How many people look at themselves: their greed and lust; their sloth and wrath;even the envies! They justify themselves as though their lip service is worth something. This young lady gave her life to the Lord in this way.Praise the Lord for his selection not opinions.

    why they cut the hair...
is there any differences between black and white veil??

Their is Big difference between the White Veil and the Black Veil.
💞Sr Mary Angelique is a Novice, meaning, Yes indeed She Accepts Christ as Her Groom. Just as St Claire did, She Cut Off All Her Hair for Her Beloved. Depending on Each *Federation/Congregation, (Walking Barefoot or with Sandal's), She is a Poor Clare Colletine's=PCC.
Sisters Receive the Black Veil, After 2 year's of their Novitiate. She Will Profess, Her Simple Vows.
Then after 3 Year's, They Receive Their Ring, placed on the Right Hand Ring finger. They Will Also Profess their Solemn Vows, And Renew Them Annually.

Instead of “loose”, I would prefer to call our interpretation “mystical”. When God became Man in Christ, he contracted a marriage bond with humankind. Not only the people of God as a whole, but every individual soul is called to be the Bride of the Lamb. (cf. Revelations). Nuns simply make explicit in their lives what is meant for everyone. We image that profound, intimate and irrevocable union with God which is the blessed destiny for all who say “yes” to Him.

Yes sister, a lot of people misunderstood Only Nuns, Virgin Saints are the only one Bride of Christ. They forget that EACH INDIVIDUAL SOULS, ALL of us called Church, the Bride of Christ, whether were married to Earthly spouses still they Church Bride and Body of Christ. Earthly spouses are also Bride of Christ. Thats why a lot of heresies come and go, because they misunderstood the Mystery of Jesus the Bridegroom and his Bride The Church both individual souls and group. Theirs Da Vinci Code heresies and New Age Religion proclaimed that ALL of us is not Bride of Christ for them, its A real woman its not Magdalene either, they make another false claimed and for them shes a godess. Shes a god and a human just like Jesus, Divine and Human. Off course. I dont believed them. but Lets just Pray for them and Open their hearts and feel the Love embrace of Jesus so that they will Repent and feel the love of God as Bridegroom to themselves That God will make them feel that he is really their Spiritual Spouse and meant to worship, Love and Respected above All.

..Before and during marriage Catholics practice chastity. Before marriage it is chastity to God to be pure and in marriage it is chastity to one's spouse-not to lust for them or any other. The celibate life is unique because it is a very spiritual vocation to be more in union with God on Earth. A nun/priest devotes their life to the vocation of serving the Church and God's people.
