I'm an atheist since about five years, previously Christian, converting from lutheranism to catholisism at the age of 19 - I'm now 41. It took a while for me to able to appreciate all the beauty in the church again, because losing ones faith is very much like a divorce you neither wanted nor expected to happen, cutting deep into your very core. I am now at a state of mind, where I can see videos and hear music reminding me of my time as a Catholic - with the aspiration to become a nun too, in my youth. Sister Mary Angelique's face of pure happiness at 4:05 makes me smile too, hoping with all my heart that she and other sisters' lives in any kind of monestary/community, will be filled with a deep sense of purpose, peace, joy and community. People of any or no religious faith, should be able to see the values in cloistered life and the benefits and struggles it holds. I especially think that today's world needs a lot more silence and I also carry with me the beautiful work ethic from my teenage years as a frequent convent visitor in a Benedictine community: that every task/job that needs to be done should - if possible - be performed with the same work ethic and dedication no matter if you're a medical doctor or the garbage collector. I work with horses now and I can tell with absolute certainty, that I've gotten a lot of my work ethic from the nuns I used to visit in my youth. I wish more people were to catch a glimpse of the joy one can find in working a very "unglamorous" task in silence, and not think about oneself but the sense of purpose that can come from from putting your pride aside and realise that sometimes the best reward is to not need any cameras, titles or extra money/benefits at all - because the good labour in of itself, is the best reward.

None of my business of course, but 18 seems a bit young to make a life altering decision. I wonder if she stuck to her vows ?

Honestly, I'm very surprised that an 18 year old would be admitted into any order. I thought in these times most orders prefer a postulant has already received a college education. That said, Sister Mary Angelique looked radiant. God bless her and the community.

At times I've felt the need to be called and yet have a difficult time trying to pick out an order to belong to and a name to choose from since there are quite a few I like to reflect both my personality and spirituality. If I did choose a name I feel in some ways it should reflect the spirit and history of the order I belong to, including its saints. For example, if I wanted to be a Passionist nun, I would love to have been called Sister Maria Dolori (which means 'sorrows' in Italian in reference to Our Lady of Sorrows) of the Cross and Crown or Maria Magdalena of the Passion; As a Dominican, I'd select Maria di Sancta Rosaria (Mary of the Holy Rosary (part of my given name and confirmation names), among others. I'm guessing when one enters into a religious community and is fully committed to that service, even some of the postulants and novices find themselves in a similar quandary. After all, they're in this for life and in an eternal commitment to their Bridegroom, whose love is infinite and unconditional. I presume this requires a lot of prayer, thought and study, however.

I come back to this video every so often and it stirs something deep in my heart each time. I have a deep love for Franciscan spirituality and the Poor Clares.
