Niolox is awesome! I accidentally hit the 90° edge of my kitchen water tap straight on with the cutting edge of my Lionsteel M3 that has a blade made from Niolox. The damage was a tiny chip in the blade and a 3 millimeter deep gash in the tap.
ooo brother thank you for this great video you put me up to date with your knowledge is a great steel I look forward to your evaluative video of your knife made with the material, many blessings for you and yours
Thank you for your very informative advise, I am new to knives, and am just learning about steels, at first was very confused, but slowly starting to click, I was looking at Kizlyar echo in niolox, so was interested in in its value thank you for your clear and informative but easy to understand knowledge well done
Bigbrownbear love your commitment to constant content updates on your channel. Having a really tough time today and this is really helping me keep my mind in a better place. Thanks for being awesome.
Interesting to hear about some non powdered steels. My vg10 spyderco calypso cuts for a long enough time and is easy to sharpen / touch up on a fine diamond
I have a Lionsteel T5 in Niolox at 60-61, haven't had it long enough to put a lot of use on it. Everything seems great so far., though the burr does seem stubborn. Looking forward to how your samples work out for you. Also let us know how that Cru Forge V compares to good ole' carbon v /1095 cro van/ 50-100B. It looks like it is chemically very similar except it has 3 times the vanadium! I am thinking of getting some for my first stock removal knife attempts. I think it may give O1 a run for it's money !
I am captivated!! I would love to get my hands on a blade made of Niolox . Apparently I already have one but I find it hard to believe . I’m still wondering ...,., The new Rambo Knives ( HeartStopper and Last Blood ) , all of a sudden -- I am being told that they are Niolox. Blade HQ ( and other knife stores ), only listed the steel specs as “ Stainless “. I just checked Blade HQ again and They updated the steel to “ Niolox “. What drives me crazy is , why not have that info from the start ?????? They still have the scales listed as G10 but in reality they are just plastic . Machine made plastic . Ok . I will keep typing ( on my 3 rd cup of coffee ☕️). I just subscribed too 🤠 Stop over some time . Thanks for posting this . Learn something new everyday.
Compared to RWL-34, niolox is inferior in corrosion resistance and attainable strength. So far only toughness test published on the internet showed CPM-154 to be multiple times tougher at the same hardness. More trials are needed to make conclusions. Additionally, niolox cost only about one third of the RWL-34.
You may have already read this , but if not , it is interesting , especially the part about how Vanadium does not form it's own carbides in high CR steel but is dissolved into the Chromium carbides , boosting their hardness a bit. Niobium does not dissolve into the Chromium carbides and forms it's own small harder carbides. www5.kau.se/sites/default/files/Dokument/subpage/2010/02/21_269_287_pdf_18759.pdf
Scot Scheideman Larrin talks a bit about this on knife steel nerds. It's the reason s30v, s90v etc have only 14% CR. They learned that from 440v/s60v which has 17% CR. What's interesting is Elmax and M390 have so much CR it's reducing the actual MC type Vanadium carbides in the matrix. Hence one reason why it's much easier to sharpen. Thanks for sharing I'm going to geek out on that link
Yes he has. I own Luong' s bushcrafter in Niolox and it is a very nice performing knife. IMO Luong has also nailed the HT on CPM 10V and CPM S110V. When time permits, I also put his B&T in CPM S125V to use and be in a position to comment on his Ht of this steel as well.
BD1N is the fucking AEBL killer.... Now im not talking devin thomas customs... In the production knife world its just shit. For kitchen, folding or fixed blade knifes its just shit. Its not tough, doesnt hold an edge and really isnt super stainless lol (yea.... Ive seen it rust. It was neglected... But still.... .68% carbon... Come the fuck on!) Now BD1N.... ive been beating a 210mm chef knife up on the line for 6 months and its a fucking beast! For a kitchen knife.... It very well may be the best ALL AROUND steel. Pretty tough, very keen edge taking, at 63hrc good edge holding and is stainless at all hell. Now... My brother from another mother... This Niolox you speak of... I am super interested. Bad ass vid again bro!

Very interesting information. Can't wait to hear about B75P and Nitrobe 77.
GPKNIVES me too!

Of course you would know about Niolox. Thank you for the information.

Interesting. Explained that very well.
Great Descriptive Video Triple B ;-))) Sleipner Modified D2 Is Quite Interesting Too!
Can I buy this small Niolox blade somewhere?
Very informative, thanks.
Hi, I wanted to know how you are with this Niolox steel? is it very difficult to sharpen? Let me know how you are with this steel, thanks Michele.

any new niolox testing?
Thanks for the informative video, I learned a lot from it.

Scot Scheideman haha well I guess I already have that PDF you sent me. It tried to replace the one I downloaded.
I'm looking at getting a t5. How do you like it after 6 years?
Do you think a DC4 would sharpen it?
What’s your opinion of the DPX gear knives/Lion Steel Knives Niolox Steel?
He mentioned they play these steels safe
Subbed. “What the fuck is Niilox?” Hahaha 😂⚔️
I am captivated!!

I think i tried emailing you about a wharncliffe petty knife but i don't know if it ever sent. I gotta get your email again and hit you up.

Austin Fox great question, let me think a bit.

Best steel review i have ever seen! WHAT THE FUCK IS NIOBIUM?
Just FYI, it's "be-all and end-all", not the other way around.

You didnt say you made EDC cleavers... lol you are really rockin in 2018 bro lol
Mos Matic haha yup, I'm still waiting for your blade to get back from heat treatment. Everything is clog up because of bladeshow
Big Brown Bear it's all good. Gives me a lil more time to save up for my custom leather sheath. Is cru-wear better than elmax? #random
Yup
Yep, Luong thinks highly of Niolox
hes nailed the heat treatment for sure

steve callari Niolox has my interest but it seems the heat treatment needs some love. It'll take some work to figure it out
