Thank you for the great video. I can tell you take good care of your birds. I raise quail, too. My kitties don’t bother the live quail, but when I start dispatching them, the cats come running. Could be the fresh livers I give them. Quail meat is delicious and nutritious.
Thank you, I do try to make sure every bird has the best life possible until it's processing day ❤️ I hear you about the cats - our dogs do the same thing!!
You can use the same scissors for the whole process. I find poultry shears cut through better for the processing part. The poultry shears are not my favorite to use for dispatch though, as the groove In the poultry shears can cause dispatch mishaps in my experience. I like a regular shaped pair of sharp scissors for dispatch 😊
A cold bath while they go through the rigor mortis process helps to tenderize the meat. It's not 100% necessary, but is a common practice with poultry and game birds
I just can't. We have quail. My brother in law culled a whole bunch. I wasn't even home that day. Now we have a sick quail, she needs to be dispatched. My brother in law is overseas. Maybe cutting the head off is the most human way. Yikes!
Thanks for your reply. We isolated the sick female and found she has bumble foot. It was really bad. I soak her foot in provodine iodine once per day and at the end of the day I put on a big glob of Neosporin (original formula no pain relief agents). It's been over a week now and her condition is healing quite nicely and she's more lively now.@@AliBell13109
@@chickensquailandbirds5650 I don’t eat cats and dogs, do you? 🙄 But I’ve purchased chicken, quail, rabbit, beef and pork at the store. And, I know that my animals have a MUCH better life than the animals sold in Supermarkets.
Wow! Nice, quick, clean process. Thank you for sharing this. I am getting quail soon and this was very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!

It really is, sharp scissors are key, keeps things very quick and humane! 😊
@@AliBell13109 I use a bonsai scissors I find they are the best for the job and stay very sharp for a long time

The wings make a good Mink treat.
I bet so! Our cats and dog love them 😋
Who would want a mink?

great job cheers

Question: Why use different shears to remove the head vs. to remove the wings and feet? (Sorry if you said and I missed it.)

I wonder if you can put needle inside the... how it's called, that nerve duct in the middle, like japanese do with the fish

What does the overnight soak, prior to freezing, do for the birds?
