Thanks for the video. I had made jelly like this with peach scraps and the pits years ago and it struck me while I was canning pears that I might be able to do the same with the pear scraps. I looked on the web for such a recipe, but all I found was for apples. I was not going to let that stop me but sometimes you just want confirmation. Yours was the only one I found. I have not finished the jelly yet. I had so much light syrup left from the canning of the pears that I decided to use that syrup in the making of the jelly. I have so much syrup left that I will keep this spiced, somewhat pear-flavored syrup and use it in the making of my next batch of apricot tea. Not a thing goes to waste.

My mother always made jam from the scraps. She did not make jelly. I could never find a recipe online and she did not write down any instructions. But I know she boiled the scraps, got rid of any seeds, stems or hard centre bits. Then pureed the pulp. It made a gorgeous tasty jam that my mother labeled "Pear Skin Jam".

I love this idea. Homemade jelly is the best.

Thank you for a simple, clear video! I have a pear tree ready for harvest and I hate to waste anything!
Now I can make preserves and jelly.

So glad we can help you! I'm also VERY jealous of your pear tree. Hopefully we can get one planted next year.

@@caitlinscanningkitchen81 Mine aren't "pretty" pears. I've heard mine called hog pears bc they never seem to completely ripen and get soft, plus they have a rough skin. I think they'll be amazing for preserves bc they're extremely firm.

I know this video was made in 2017, and this is 2021, but I was wondering when you put the 2 TBS lemon juice in the syrup? I am trying to make this for the first time. Can you help me out? Thank You

In general jams and jellies that require the use of pectin are difficult to multiply because they are less likely to set. You are more than welcome to try but be cautious that you may end up with a delicious pear scrap syrup instead :) Feel free to add in more liquid pectin as well to improve the chances of it setting.
