    PDGA needs to start a certified instructor program and you need to be Head Instructor! Seriously. I’m a Silver level bowling coach (one of around 550 worldwide) and have seen the benefits of such a certification program. There are good players and there are good instructors, and the two aren’t always the same. Great instructional video.

    Great video Scott. Thanks for the tutorial. Easy to understand. Watched old video of you a while back 99 Worlds in Rochester. My hometown.

    T-Rex reference was hilarious. I lost my sidearm few years back because of shoulder problems, now trying to get it back.

    WOAH I just realized why anheizer forehand scramble is my favorite. Its because I was using the right angle!! I just went out and tried the same angle, but with leaning over as taught, I was almost throwing farther then my old way, most importantly, 0 pain after throwing. This changed my life man!

    @Scott Stokely
    1) power by facing toward target, let torso twist upper body away and then forward to get a spring effect
    2) use active wrist to spin the disc and finish in front of body. to do this...
    3) don't tuck elbow

    Scott is coming to my area very soon and I’m excited to attend one of his clinics, but that’s not why I’m here. In the information about the clinic it says that any child with special needs and their family can attend his clinic for free, which I think is awesome. Subscribed, thumbs up, sharing your videos around as much as I can for being such an incredible human being and disc golf teacher.

    I've gone from never throwing a sidearm to about 300 feet of distance and good angle and distance control in just about 9 months and your tips are the best!! Not quite there yet in hitting tight gaps, but otherwise extremely pumped with the progression

    Your sidearm videos are the reason I didn't embarrass myself when I went to my first League doubles night on Tuesday. I actually made some birdies for my partner and I. Thank you for doing all that you do for the sport!

    The sidearm master. Two things that also helped me control my sidearm the most; flicking putters/understable discs and letting your elbow lead the motion. Keep that thumb tight Scott come to clearwater!!! Please?

    Love this. Proof i was doing it right 10 years ago, lol. My buddies insisted on keeping that elbow tucked. I was throwing from my shoulder. Love this explanation.

    it is so true that you actually angle down your torso to be level with your arm. if you stand up straight, the disc goes like a baseball throw. never noticed this wow . just do it naturally.

    Love it! I find that I generate lots of high speed turn on my sidearms so I need to throw my most over-stable discs flat or on a hyzer.

  • @joconnell8145
    @joconnell8145 3 роки тому +1

    This is helpful and I am looking forward to trying this during some practice. I guess my main problem is how the disc sits in my hand and finger placement....it just feels very awkward. Would love to talk with you if you plan on coming to Vegas for the LVC next year.

    I messed my shoulder up, seriously "f'd" it up... My fault entirely because I did not get proper information about the mechanics and motion and position of my body to throw sidearm... Two months of recovery, still haven't thrown a disc,,, and worried to death that I will never fully recover...Major Bummer,,, I hope in two more weeks I can at least get out to back hand some putters, and see how that goes..

    Hi Scott. A question. The spring analogy is quite clear in a sidearm and you can really feel it happening in the body. Is the same thing happening in a backhand throw? Where and when would it be happening in a backhand? Thanks a bunch!

  • @oliround

    Scott, I watched this video the other day, then watched you play 1st rd 2017 Nick Hyde Memorial... your form from back then had your forehand throwing pretty far, but nowhere near the 15° angle you talk about here. Not criticism, but is this a lesson you formalized more recently? Here's hoping you'll be getting some more Jomez coverage soon! Thanks for reading and responding, Scott.

    I have been playing nearly as long as you have and am embarrassed to say I never got the sidearm in my game. My solution has been to throw offhand. What disc would you recommend as the one to try to start learning the sidearm throw or maybe a couple recommendations.

  • @jayjames8026
    @jayjames8026 3 роки тому

    i think i can throw a better sidearm with these tips but i feel like im not holding the disc correctly because i get a good amount of wobble on release... hitting 200-250 accurately but id like a good 350 accurate for those right turn lines.

      Hey Jay, same issue here. One potential remedy: Start your walk-up with a relaxed grip. As your backswing nears it's pivot point, gradually increase firmness of grip.
      Also, I've found that softer plastics (Gstar or gummy Star) tend to release with tighter spin- for me, at least.

  • @thepbrchannel9792
    @thepbrchannel9792 3 роки тому

    If you are facing forward, doesn't the last snap [wrist and even flick of fingers] push the disc to the left [right-hand thrower]?

    • @ScottStokelyDG
      @ScottStokelyDG  3 роки тому

      No. remember, you are throwing a ball. Nothing goes right/left.

  • @BillFromAZ
    @BillFromAZ 3 роки тому

    Scott, I do a sideways walk up throwing forehand, because when I face forward as you describe, I throw the disc across my body and end to the left. How do I stop throwing across my body so I can start doing a proper forehand walkup?
