    I have this and actually really like it. I'm left handed and Dyspraxic, so I find using scissors quite difficult, these are a lot easier to use for me, I use it mostly to cut up chicken and veg.

  • @gimok2k5
    @gimok2k5 6 років тому +74

    To be fair, you only started to struggle AFTER the handle broke - so it might have something to do with that why it didn't work as well as it claimed.
    Still probably better to just get a knife and a cutting board, longterm.

    • @KaseyWynne
      @KaseyWynne 6 років тому +16

      Yeah, but to be unfair to the scissor slicer, it broke after he tried to cut something it claimed it could cut. Tho i think the one in the infomercial was made of metal, so that would make it more robust. The big problem with this thing is that it's impossible to sharpen, and once it's dull, it's worthless.

    • @ozziescribbler
      @ozziescribbler 6 років тому +7

      To be fair to the Scrissor Slicer/Clever Cutter, the corn in infomercial seemed to be cooked beforehand and Mike used an uncooked one.

    • @KaseyWynne
      @KaseyWynne 6 років тому +2

      Well, yeah, but they don't show it being cooked, so it's a mistake anyone who'd seen the infomerical could've made. It's not Mike's fault they were deceptive about it's capabilities. Also, most vegetables in commercials like these are parcooked to make the item seem to work better. However that doesn't mean they aren't implying that the CC can't do it. Especially as they say "So sharp, they can cruise through corn on the cob." I mean, a butter knife could cruise through sufficiently cooked CoC.

    • @Agamemnon2

    I feel bad for the inventors of these products because I have a hunch that they design something that legitimately works, but then the company who they sell the patent redesigns it to be cheaply mass-produced in China to sell for $19.99 or so to the point where it's no longer able to perform the basic functions that the prototype was able to successfully do. Either that or it wasn't that good of a design in the first place.

    • @neeneko
      @neeneko 6 років тому +33

      The ones I feel really bad for are the ones that design something for the disabled community, but whoever tries to bring the thing to market both makes it cheaper AND tries to gear it to the 'general' community, so it ends up ineffective for one and a joke in the other.

      It isn't just a dumbass idea at all, I have one of these (albeit a different brand, mine is 'Clever Cutter' and not 'Scissor Slicer') and it works absolutely brilliantly.
      Mike seems like a great guy and I'm not that much of a penis that I would take shots at someone for buggering up a video but he wasn't using that thing correctly at all, and if he hadn't broken the bloody thing then it would have chopped the other things easily if it was used properly.
      I''ve been chopping fruit and veg with mine for at least a year and I think that it's great. Unless this one Mike was using was just a really cheapy model or something that cost half the price of the one I got.
      You get what you pay for more often than not in this world. :)

    This thing actually sounds like a good idea, provided you get one made with better materials. Of course, after breaking it nothing else was going to be properly cut by it. Perhaps the "Clever Cutter" is better built, who knows. Of course, it's a problem to cut larger things.

    4:44 I think that corn not only broke the handel but also make blade blunt. If they didn't claim it can do corn, you could use it longer, then again, it woudn't last long anyway.

    I have a product similar to this and it's actually great. This one does not look the same, on mine the blade slides below a platform so it fully cuts through, instead of leaving an awkward skin. It also has some serration. I actually find it to be a very useful device, it makes for much less clean up. I haven't cut corn on the cob with it, though. I have no idea why one would want to, either.

  • @Terrakinetic

    0:00 It looks like one of those products that are good until they stop working and there is no way to fix/sharpen/replace any part of it without a huge amount of hassle.
    2:38 Never mind... that doesn't look like it would slice through cold cheese. 5:30 Well it was working better than I thought... I am not sure if my initial estimate was right or if it was because you broke it on the corn.

    I actually have something that looks identical to the "clever cutter" but is a rip-off from Hong Kong, and I love it! Admittedly I've never tried cutting bread (what the heck) or cheese or corn on the cob with it...I mean, you kind of have to use your common sense with it. I use it to cut small fiddly things like garlic so as to save having to scrape it off the chopping board into the pan and just...have it go right into the pan. It lasted me for about a year although it did recently break. :( I'm hoping to replace it though.

    Wait, the Scissor Slicer you have IS different from the Clever Cutter. The Clever Cutter has more metal going up the handle; it seems to have more structural integrity compared to the Scissor Slicer's cheap, thin plastic handles. The Clever Cutter could clearly handle more 'oomph' without breaking, so cutting through onions and corn might be possible with the original product.

    Is it easier than a mandoline? You can use it if you need scissor sounds for your videos.
