I wonder if on some level it's ironic watching Mike seem to unduely struggle with these things given infomercials wont for showing unbelievable amounts of struggle to preform the "before" task
Well, after he couldn't figure out not to put the Strutz on upside down with the box, instructions, and the informercial itself on hand to tell him how to do it correctly, and ignored the comments of the video telling him exactly how badly he screwed up, I've pretty much given up hope of him even caring whether he's doing it right or not.

i actually kinda like peeling eggs by hand. it's oddly satisfying to get the shell off in (mostly) one piece.

I love how the commercial also tries to sell you eggs. It's like "What, you don't have a problem with opening eggs because you don't eat eggs? Well, eat some friggin eggs! You know... Proteins!"

The detailed instructions do mention you have to put the eggs in ice-water right after boiling them, to let them chill down. I think this is where the magic happens that the egg-stractor's functionality banks on, in that it loosens the "skin membrane" of the egg inside the shell, due to shrinkage from the sudden temperature drop. It's the oldest trick, rinse eggs with cold water before peeling, and the shell comes off much easier.

Where does the bottom of the shell even go in their dramatization? It's not attached to the discarded husk. I guess we know why they used white eggs instead of brown ones.
Also, it's incredibly simple to just shock the eggs with ice water after you boil them, and the shell just pops off.
He overly cracked the bottom. It's supposed to just crack it a bit, but then he just. Cracked it too much at the bottom.
Notice they used white shelled eggs in the demo - crafty, that.
They're using white eggs because that's the normal kind of egg in the US.

White eggs aren't any more common than brown ones in the US. They're both sold in the grocery stores and farm markets.

1:10 it’s amazing how this infomercial single-handedly proved that you don’t need to buy the product. All you need to do is crack the top and bottom of the egg and blow on one side for the exact same effect. The egg just pops out of the shell. Well done!

I also love how according to the informerical the only thing complicated or time consuming in creating all of those different egg dishes is the peeling...which is probably the easiest part of creating any of those dishes.

See, the problem with the "put your willy in it" comments is I'm pretty sure this thing started life as a sex toy and got repurposed. We're all too scared that, in this one unique instance, he might actually do it.

This product did not live up to my eggpectations.
Okay, A, the egg salad they show on the box isn't egg salad, it's a salad with eggs. B, my parents bought one of these and they suck. Even worse, the egg has to be fully cold to use it and I like my egg still warm from cooking.
Google tells me the "air cell" is in the broader end of the egg, try it the other way round Mike!

This is actually how I peel eggs. You make a tiny hole in top, a slightly bigger hole in the bottom, blow into the top hole, and the egg pops out. I suspect the problem is you might have cracked the bottom a bit too much. But the important thing here is that they're acting as if this is some amazing new scientific principle, rather than a trick I learned from my Nan when I was four.
Congratulations on the subscriber milestone! :D I enjoyed you riffing on the infomercial at the start. A pity this thing didn't quite work. Peeling a couple eggs for breakfast is nothing, but you start wishing for a fun way when you've made a dozen for deviling. XD

I personally like runny egg yolks with a jam or jelly, but I've always liked that savory-sweet combo. I can see it being an acquired taste. I definitely wouldn't do it with hard boiled eggs.

Congrats on 100k! For me, this looks easier than when I peel hard boiled eggs, but I'm sure I just suck at it. I've seen people peel them with no problem, and I'm like, "What am I doing wrong?....." O-O Still, this isn't perfect nor ideal. I'll definitely check those life hacks you mentioned.
One thing that I noticed is that they used white eggs in the infomercial, where you used brown ones. There's no real difference in the taste or structure of a white egg vs. a brown one, but it looks better on TV when you don't see the rest of the shell that didn't get pushed out because it's the same color as the white. So, Unfortunately, I think it was working as intended, it was just a bit of camera trickery that might have given you the impression that it removed the whole shell.

I literally peeled and ate for hard boiled eggs while watching you use the eggstractor and still finished before you did

I don't get how people struggle so much with peeling eggs. You just need to take the eggs out of boiling water and *immediately* dump them in cold water. That way, the membrane properly lets go of the egg while sticking to the shell. Just slam the egg down on a cutting board and roll it from your fingers to your palm, exerting light pressure. If done right, you'll have a ring of cracked shell all around the egg. All you have to do to peel is take one bit of cracked shell off, break the membrane (with your nails), and pull on the membrane. The membrane should come clean off, taking all the broken bits of shell with it. After that, you're just left with the top and bottom, which you can just pull off cleanly.
You can also not bother peeling at all (if you just want to get the egg, sans shell, into your stomach asap). Do the same thing (slam and roll), but exert more pressure. The egg will cleanly split into two halves. Push a teaspoon into the egg white right at the edge of the shell, and you can scoop the entire half-egg out, without a single bit of shell sticking to it.
I'm thinking the issue here with this thing, is that it's made with American eggs in mind. European/British eggs actually tend to have a thicker shell than American ones, among other things.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

I kind of wanted to see it tried on white eggs too. It kind of works, but not like in the demo where it was a perfect egg dump. Though they could have just used white eggs to make it seem like it was a perfect peel since the shell and the insides are such a similar color.

I always love how commercials over exaggerate to the extreme. Like peeling a hard boiled egg takes maybe twenty seconds (and that's being generous, it takes like ten if you do it properly). Peeling something like twelve eggs should take like four minutes. Not really a lot of time at all.
You failed at using it...LOL Over cracking the bottom, do like the TV and hit the small end then a tap on the bottom and put it in. Really simple and works every time.

There's nothing more delicious than a lovely egg snag.
Pretty sure eggs in the US have much thinner shells than UK/EU ones due to them being heavily treated with chemicals and disinfectants that strips away outer layers (hence why the eggs you see in the US are nearly always pure white) it's also why eggs in the us are sold refrigerated, the taking away of those layers means they go off really fast.
This will only work with U.S eggs because of the way they treat them before shipping.
They annihilate the shell by bleaching it for some kind of quasi-cleaning reason thus making the shell super brittle.
This is the reason why you can keep British and EU eggs out of the fridge for weeks (the way eggs should be kept for culinary reasons) while U.S eggs HAVE to be refrigerated.
It does change the flavor. From mildly enjoyable if not bland to the prestigious flavor of sadness as you realize what you bought.
I was really hoping this one would work as advertised. I love boiled eggs but I can't be bothered with pealing the shell off afterwards. This would have been a must buy if it actually worked.
If you don't mind the taste of vinegar.
You can just melt the egg shell with White vinegar since it will eat the carbonate that is a shell.
Takes a day tho, and again hope you don't mind a vinegar taste.

Here’s a hack to make peeling hard boiled eggs easier:
Put baking soda in the water before it boils then put the eggs in and the shell peels off with ease little or no trouble.
