  • Fernando González is famous for the most brutal forehand in tennis history, but his backhand ain't too shabby either! Fernando Francisco González Muñoz "Stone Hand" or "El Bombardero de La Reina" is the fourth male tennis player in history to have won each Olympic medal - gold in doubles and bronze in singles at Athens 2004, and silver in singles at Beijing 2008 (lost to Rafael Nadal. He spent a considerable amount of time in the top 10 rankings, reaching a career-high ranking of No. 5. He won 11 ATP titles in his career and has reached the quarterfinal round of all four Grand Slam tournaments. He played his only grand slam final at the 2007 Australian Open, losing to top-seeded Roger Federer.
Throughout his career, González defeated many past and present top players, including Lleyton Hewitt, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer (all while they held the top spot), Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Carlos Moyá, Gustavo Kuerten, Marat Safin, Pete Sampras, and Andy Murray.

When he had confidence on his backhand he was pretty much invincible, lookup Hewitt vs Gonzo in AUS 2009, I never saw him unleash his backhand so much as that day and it was unstoppable. The power in that forehand is the same arm driving that backhand

His backhand was very underrated because obviously compared with that forehand any shot could be saw as weak

It's a shame how much his backhand fluctuated throughout his career. On days it could be unreal, other days, an exploitable wing.

If he had maintained that regularity with his reverse, without a doubt he would have been number 1. A great one.
