    They were called Kaiten. They trained around Etajima in Hiroshima, they weren't expendable and they were considered some of the best new recruits and where recruited due to them being top of their class. They didn't want to do it... They were forced, I know this because my grandfather was one, he was lucky that the war ended the same day he was meant to be deployed.

    Italian Frogmen invented the "slc" (siluro a lenta corsa or "slow speed torpedo", also called "maiale" (pig) for the shape), it was attached to the flank of enemy boats and a timer was set, long enough to let the two men driving it escape.
    They could drive it 100% underwater or only half submerged, they could also "spolettare a 0" (immediately ignite explosive"), making the "maiale" (pig) a kamikaze torpedo.

    Simple history also made a video about this topic. There's actually quite a lot more suicide bombing tactics committed by the Japanese military during WW2 than you'd think

    The Kaiten was a really bad suicide machine, the kamikazes did a good ammount of damage while the Kaiten did little damage while also sacrificing people. There was originally gonna be an escape door but it was canceled, and the hatch could only be opened from the outside so the driver couldnt even get out. When the hatch closes the driver knew they were gonna die even if they try to get out they cant, they are stuck and have a limited ammount of air. If the driver runs out of air before hitting the enemy they will sufocate and die before hitting the target.

    • @schwarzerritter5724

      The kaiten would also be a significant danger to the submarine transporting it. A kaiten could not take nearly as much pressure as a submarine, significantly limiting its diving depth.

    Your videos are great, but I see a problem in the maps used in your animations. I have noticed many time, you have marked the Indian borders with Pakistan and China wrong. North-western part of J&K is a part of Indian territory and India shared a small land border with Afghanistan as well. Same goes for North-eastern part of J&K is entirely a part of Indian territory and China is far away from borders. You can check more on this over the internet. Hope that you fix this error in future videos.

    Broken propeller on the plane at the bottom of the sea. I believe the shadow is misaligned on the moving one. It would be an oversight I would skim over animating this series too!

    • @bobthegoat7090
      @bobthegoat7090 2 роки тому +1

      These animations are made quickly, and "good" animations, like the plane, might be drawn with shadows, but it is only meant to fool at first glance while allowing it to be animated quickly. You could say they are anticipated mistakes. If you were to count every mistake, you would not have enough fingers to do so. So, even if you point out the mistake it is not going to be fixed in a future video as it is the animation production speed that is the problem and not that they don't know how to make aligned shadows.

    Why were they so determined to die?

    • @bobthegoat7090
      @bobthegoat7090 2 роки тому

      In Japanese culture, they have a much bigger focus on the society in whole, compared to the big focus on individualism in the US. So, your duty is extremely important. Even so, if you didn't go, it would have brought shame on your family. They weren't determined to die. They were determined to serve their country and bring great honor to their family. Also, sometimes you have to put yourself in their position. What if the Japanese were just about to invade the US? How much would you be willing to give to protect your country and family?

    • @nnennav
      @nnennav 2 роки тому +1

      @@bobthegoat7090 I’m just saying, there is a difference between sacrificing yourself for the greater good and dying just because someone told you to.
