    Hint: Try using your pear butter as a ham glaze instead of the normal cherry or sugar glazes when making a holiday ham.

    Just look at the fruit of your hard labor! Beautiful jars. I enjoyed this video so much, and was touched when you talked about your mom. Hey, I grew up in Detroit too. Thank you for making us feel so welcomed in your kitchen! Looking forward to the next video.

      In the "D" girls! hahaha I lived on the east side..... 8 mile and Schoenherr.... until we moved to 6 Mile and Gratiot. Moved back up to 8 mile in my teens. It was funny when that movie 8 Mile came out, people all of the sudden thought I was cool, like my kids, because I grew up there..... actually a couple of miles down 8 mile from where that movie was filmed. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I miss my mom so much..... I think I appreciate her even more now that she is gone.

    Honey I just have to tell you how much I'm loving your channel. I just found you recently and I'm so overjoyed!! I love that you take the time to do step by step instructions and understand that everyone is new to "something." You're just a doll. I love, love, love it!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. My story is similar to yours though I'm a grandma 👵🏼 now! (Geesh! When did that happen? LOL) I grew up in the inner city of Dayton, Ohio when parents divorced. When I got to be a momma myself I was determined as you are to make sure my girls had everything they needed and a lot of what they wanted too. I did a lot of "make ahead freezer meals" then. Now I've gotten back to my roots when I'd visit my dad in TN, his grandmother canned. So I'm learning now and trying to teach my adult daughters who LOVE IT! So again, thank you! Thank you for taking so much time out of what I know is an already busy day when you have littles. 😍 Sorry I rambled a bit too. Take care. God Bless you and your beautiful family. ~Lisa

    This looks so good! and Simple too. I NEED to try it. I also NEED that jar grabber! I do enjoy watching the whole canning process instead of missing clips here and there. I totally agree. Canning is very relaxing and it is an awesome hobby! I LOVE the feeling of a full panty ESPECIALLY when It is something that I made myself. I grew up poor too. Which is how I learned to cook a good meal from nearly nothing. I remember the same thing when I was a kid. My mom said she was not hungry and we would eat. NOW I know what was going on. Anyway, sorry for the long post. lol I was writing bits here and there as the video went on. Love your videos! and I think we share a LOVE for breadmaking. I was kneading dough today and was saying "wow...this is the prettiest dough.." and hubby thought I was crazy. haha!

    They don't like the sweet and sour? I guess it's a result of growing up in the middle of the country. I've liked it ever since I was a kid. It's got so little ginger in it I didn't even know any was in there. I never saw it with the sauce on the side until I came here from California. The breading gets a little soggy as it sits in the sauce, so there's an advantage to having it on the side, but I miss having it in the sauce. The ones that don't put the sauce on the side also add pineapple chunks (oohbaby) and onions and bell peppers (I can do without the peppers).

    If you leave the lid ajar on the crockpot the water will evaporate and your butter will turn out thicker.

    looks wonderful! what is the difference between pear sauce (like applesauce) and pear butter? the ingredients & process look the same to this newbie canner so l’m not sure what l am missing. maybe “butter” is cooked longer to reduce & make thicker??

    I know this video is quite old, but I just stumbled upon your channel and have been binge watching ;)
    My question is what is the processing time for the pear butter?
    And also say your processing time is 10 minutes if you accidentally over process say by 5 minutes will that effect the finished product?

    Thanks for the video. I too don't care for the taste of ginger so am glad I stumbled upon your site. How much sugar did you use?

    • @TheKneadyHomesteader
      @TheKneadyHomesteader  10 років тому +1

      Hi Kevin, and THANK YOU!!!!! :D I used 4 cups of sugar..... it will be about 50% of however many pounds of pears you used..... 6lbs would call for 3 cups of sugar.... 8lbs of pears would call for 4 cups of sugar.....10lbs is 5 cups...... and so on.... but definitely have a taste and tweak it. I always start with less sugar and move up if i need it that way I dont screw anything up. HAHAHAHA :D Let me know if you give this a try and let me know what you think. We LOVE it here. I want to make apple butter next! :D

    Oh how my hubby LOVES Fruit butters, I will be making your recipe, can't wait.... I can almost smell it from here. :o) And just a heads up, I have always used bottled lemon juice to can with, as fresh lemons, although super yummy, are not the same in their PH like you can get in bottled, , so, .. better to use bottled. :o) you rock Missy...

    A friend gave me some pears but they are Hard and they are called Winter Pears. Can I use them now and use an immersion blender while cooking or do I wrap them up, put downstairs in a cool place and wait till Winter and hope they soften and ripen up?

    There has to be an auto-focus setting in that camera. It'd be very unusual for a camera not to have that.
    Edit - Apparently only the T4i has auto-focus for video :/

    • @TheKneadyHomesteader
      @TheKneadyHomesteader  10 років тому

      yep! not on the T3i. :/ BUT, I didnt have an extra $400 to move up to that model..... so this is as good as it gets for now. HAHAHAHA I might eventually have to get a camcorder for my video's and use this camera just for my photo's..... which it is great for. Just not so much on the video. :(

    • @GodlessManitoban
      @GodlessManitoban 10 років тому +1

      I was told to get a professional grade video camera too. But I couldn't afford a camera for pictures and a video camera. So I went with a HDSLR ("H" because it does high definition video).
