Honestly, I came to that conclusion too. Like, RE4 remake Leon sounds like he’s bullying the Plagas victims sometimes, but it sounds like he’s doing it because he’s trying to get out some stuff he had gone through from RE2, you know? Like it feels like he’s working through some past trauma when he says “Aw, Sorry!” Or “Present for you!” In this game

It's easier to notice the differences when you see OG Leon for the character he really was all along. OG RE4 Leon in reality was Dante from the Devil May Cry™ Series. I mean, considering DMC was originally going to be RE4, OG RE4 Leon is the closest we'll ever get to getting a DMC x RE crossover assuming Dante only has his human side.
      Remake Leon is... well, Leon.
You can play DMC 1 and just assume that Dante is Leon with extra skills, and you'll notice that there aren't really any character differences. So I get why people prefer the original over the remake, to them it feels like losing Dante for another character, but it feels to me like the original wasn't the true intentioned character development for Leon.

8:10 I'm sure you noticed at times where some encounters gave more ammo, healing items, and support items vs others that gave mainly money. That's actually a background system of the original RE4 where it calculates your inventory and makes adjustments to the item drops accordingly. Got too much ammo at the end of encounter? Heres a bunch of money drops. Barely scraping together a full Mag? Here's enough ammo to level the starting village. It's brilliant for tension.

@@marvinn6044 you're thinking of adaptative difficulty. Wich is an different system altogether. Let me explain: Adaptative difficulty was the system by wich OG RE4 changed certain encounters by taking into account your inventory, how easy or difficult you found previous encounters, how many deaths you had, etc. This changed the damage enemies made, and if certain enemies even spawn or not (the prime example being the crossbowmen of Water Hall). This was disabled in Professional difficulty, with the setting cranked to max all the time.
This was an different sub-system that runs parallel to Drops. Even in Professional, the game prioritizes giving you enough ammo and healing resources accordingly as to not soft-lock you. It's the reason why Sniper Ammo only drops from enemy or breakable boxes/jars if you have an Sniper in your inventory, except for the Fixed Loot wich is part of the Map and remains the same every time you play the game.

Aye, though her response to the criticism leaves something to be desired. And I really would like to assume that it really was all on the voice director, but the fact is there's a possibility it was still her fault. This is biased as fuck and I'm characterizing her with only the response to go off of but:
If she is someone's brat or got into acting through something other than skill (I'm chiefly suspecting quota hires) or any other reason she could be an actress without the skill, and/or the voice director didn't have the backbone to set her straight while she was tryina do "the correct ada wong" then you can easily get the current situation, where she turned in an embarrassing performance and it got left in.
Point is, while I would like to believe that the voice director is at fault here, we can't discount the possibility that gao is just unpleasant and petulant to work with, since this could explain her reaction.

And I really want to put the blame on the voice direction as well except, the fact is, none of the other actors have any delivery problem (objectively speaking) and if you look her up in interviews, you’ll notice this is how she actually talks, so I’m assuming the voice director was aware of that

2-she WAS in control of herself, meaning the race and gender cqrd was something she deliberately chose to play.
Either way, not a good look. Pulling any such card outside of directly addressing bigots (which simply can't be the case for most people criticizing her acting) is a cheap way to acquire sympathy. Krauser is actually massively developed in the remake, it's just that parts of it are more subtle.
Go watch the video analysis someone made on him titled Krauser, the dark reflection and you will realize just how many nuances they added to him.
Also, Ashley is now fully a "heroic civilian" archetype (the same kind of character as Sandra Bullock's in the movie Speed).
She is honestly very impressive as a person now when you think about how much she does that is really hard for her to do, because unlike Leon she is not highly trained or experienced.
Her progression is also wonderful to watch as you go. In the village she is terrified and skittish and Leon thinks about their situation purely tactically, in the castle she opens up a bit more and Leon's word choice when talking to her also changes, making the two feel much more like companions, and in the island she becomes considerably more brave and proactive, jumping enthusiastically at any chance she can find to do something to help, and Leon shifts from telling her to do something to asking her.
Both Leon and Ashley also puts the safety of the other at a higher priority than themselves on multiple occasions.
In Leon's case it's fairly obvious, and in Ashley's case there are a number of occasions but the three most standout ones are the part where Saddler mind controls her and she runs away from Leon specifically to prevent herself from hurting him, the Ashley gameplay segment where she ventures into the fucking armadura infested mausoleum to help Leon, and near the end of the game where she tells Leon to use the surgical machine first.
They are both clearly shown to care about each other on a personal level and their growing friendship is really good to see.

I think a major issue with the side characters is that most of their development and backstory is done through optional files that you can read. Because most players, myself included, will skip out on that shit because they wanna get back to the game.
You get to read about Ramon’s descent into madness and betrayal of his family, due to his manipulation by and faith in Lord Saddler. You get to read about Luis’ tragic backstory about his grandfather killing himself in a fire due to being infected by the plaga, and how Luis’ mind was brilliant and he went on to work for Umbrella and actually helped create Nemesis. You get to learn about Saddler’s bloodline and their history with the Salazars.
And none of that is in the story itself, it’s in optional files.

Now that you finished RE4, if you are looking for a new game, I suggest Dredge, it has overwhelmingly positive (which, you know) and I can confidently say its one of the best games I played recently
You are a fishermen, that ends up In an mysterious place, you go travelling around the map meeting different people and slowly advancing towards the end of the game, with a whole bunch of surprises along the way.
This game is very calm and relaxing most of the time, until the night falls, when you start seeing weird stuff all over the sea, which might peek your curiosity, until you get close to whatever you are looking at and realize its too late.
As I said the game can be very calm and relaxing, but that doesn´t remove the fact that this game has some eldritch/lovecraftian horror, which make a really good and original mix
I highly recommend you check it out. Im sorry if this was a little long or confusing, but trust me, the game is at least worth a shot.

The Ada voice problem is weird because even the voice director getting blamed doesn't make sense either since every other characters in the game kills it except her.
Either Ada for some reason had a inept director solely for her character or it actually was a VA issue as much as people don't want to admit it.

    • @CapraDaAlbaRegia
      @CapraDaAlbaRegia Рік тому

I think the VD makes sense, because I do see the same problems with a lot of characters (Leon, Saddler, Krauser) that I have with Ada.
I also heard - tho not sure if it's confirmed - that they prioritised the race of the actress during casting which doesn't make much sense for Ada.
But I do think that there was ultimately a problem in direction where they made an effort to tone down the flirting (which might be a whole other issue) and it affected the whole attitude of Ada towards Leon. It seems like they wanted Ada to kind of put Leon down but it makes it very hard for the VA to get the tone of the lines right.

Krauser was absolutely the best thing about this remake, he was phenomenal, his tragic story, his tension and dialagues with leon, like it's actually a mentor and student relationship, hell you even feel bad when you kill him, besides that he is the best boss fight in re history, it's such a unique boss fight, like it was straight out of a duel of fates or Kurosawa samurai duel, like you can't help but fight him with a knife because it's so satisfying. And then the end line: "I trained you well, leon" brought a tear down my eyes, it was the first time he called leon by his actual name instead of just "ROOKIE" the moment where he was proud of leon, it reminds me of the line "defeated by my own son? The feeling is not entirely unpleasant" in sekiro where you defeat owl .not to mention his knife is the best looking knife I have ever seen in a video game.

I think the biggest problem with Ada is the sheer fact they chose someone who clearly isnt used to doing voice-work, and I'm not talking about the performance. You can physically hear the difference in audio quality between her and the other characters. That right there tells me she wasnt using the same kind of professional studio/recording environment as everyone else. It wouldnt shock me to learn that the voice director either wasnt present, or at least couldnt set up the same lines of communication they had with everyone else, which would've made actually directing her... difficult at best.

I would also say they didn't really utilize the regenerators as best as they could, seeing as every encounter with them can be fought one-on-one, which when you compare it to its spiritual successor in Dead Space the Hunter where that feels more like a combat puzzle and less a test on how quickly you can humiliate them like it is for the regenerator.
