I am not familiar with the John Deere 420, but from what I can see, is that is has an electro-magnetic clutch just like on the 300 Series garden tractors. If that is the case, then I have already replaced one and can explain the necessary steps: -Remove Front Grill -Remove PTO Clutch housing (typically 3 bolts) -Remove PTO clutch disc assembly (Armature) -Remove snapring in front of ball bearing -Remove/extract ball bearing I always use Weingartz to help with technical drawings and this drwawing here: bitly.ws/KqYM should assist you with your disassembly and assembly process. The Bearing is still available, but this can be esily purchased from a 3rd party (not JD). The ball bearing part number according to Weingartz is JD AM39420 and the sizes are metric: Inside Diameter: 45mm (1.772 IN) Outside Diameter: 75mm (2.953 IN) Width: 16mm (0.629 IN) The bearings I opt for are made in Japan by a company called NACHI. Your specific bearing number would be "NACHI 6009-2NSL" Before you got out and purchase what I just wrote, confirm your sizes with the old bearing you pull out. I hope this helps to get your pto clutch bearing replaced. Regards Andreas
@@WorkshopRebuild That’s a very good detailed explanation and I’ll print that out for future reference as i do work on those once in a while. But what I’m really after is how to repair the shaft and and bearings that go through the pivot pin underneath the front end. Ive got it partially apart and need a new front ball bearing and while I’ve got it apart a new rear needle bearing. Once I’ve got those two bearings replaced what kind of grease should i repack them with. Thanks for whatever help you can offer! John
Hi i wantet do knwo where is the hydraulic line that goes back into the tank/pump and a hose where is constant presure Lg from germany i have a 400 but i changed the motor
Thank you Paul! It wasn't easy to share the PTO system since many parts are involved, but I think it was well worth it to show on camera. It wouldn't be easy to show this through pictures. Best regards
I don't remember exactly how much I added, but it was well over 5L! Tractordata calls for 5.2L, but that might not be 100% correct. Hydraulic systems do make noise and if the "wining noise" seems to get louder then you might have an issue. If your lift is slow, there could be a flaw within you valve block or charge pump.
I need to know how to change the front pto bearing on a John Deere 420 garden tractor.
