    Description: Nietzsche is profound and powerfully insightful, psychologically. He wrote many uniquely stylized books that expounded upon a deep historical and philological (study of languages and their texts) understanding of our ancient and even prehistoric behavior, beliefs, and how these have shaped our "modern" attitudes (conscious and subconscious) toward each other's actions and lifestyles.
    We have a life, and we can chose to exercise it or let it atrophy. He encourages the former.

    Is it me or does the three metamorphoses seem to model similarly to the Dunning-Kruger curve?
    Take some intellectual endeavour of whatever, Lets say some science guy wants to learn economics.
    Camel = Low knowledge, high confidence in knowledge, continues to persue knowledge.
    Lion = High knowledge, low confidence in knowledge, begins to question the knowledge he/she has attained.
    Child. Apex of knowledge, can use knowledge and play with it to make more knowledge.

    Thank you for going through this. I tried to read Beyond Good and Evil by Nietzsche when I was 16 or so and just could not get though it, but I've always wanted to familiarise myself with at least one of his works. I'm struggling to sleep right now and sometimes it helps to have something more to focus on than just triggers!

      Which is why his work is ironic when it comes to answering moral questions. But it could not be otherwise, and he is not alone in these sorts of contradictions either. Albert Camus for instance, also criticized any form of conviction and sought to accept this absurd part of life, but at the same time landed in his own conviction that no end may justify human deaths as a means. I love Thus Spoke Zarathustra, but one has to be aware of the irony of Zarathustra himself, being a sage-like figure who laughs at any other concieved ideal, while reaching for his own. It seems however that he himself is very aware of this irony, which is represented in Zarathustra's moments of hesitation and anxiety.

      Also, I don't think we should assume the "greatest good" for most people concludes with "mediocre equality". I know you said you're not a philosopher, neither am I, but doesn't that seem like a bit of a jump? It's not an individualism v collectivism argument, I think it's more nuanced than that.

    • @admiralkipper4540
      @admiralkipper4540 6 років тому

      well i believe from my observations and reading of mein kampf among other things that they clearly valued considerations of the spiritual health of a people, and used the state to try and realise a situation in which the German people could flourish in a long term sense. I find myself agreeing with most of the things they did honestly, i don't think that fundamental motivation can be detrimental in itself.

    • @admiralkipper4540
      @admiralkipper4540 6 років тому

      i would recommend it if you get the time, it really makes what he believed alot clearer. Although the most important thing he believed was that the state exists to protect the ethnic people as a cohesive group, seeing as he thought that was the foundation of any nation.

    • @admiralkipper4540
