today I'm building an indoor koi tank. It will be a fully functioning tank and filtration system where small koi or other fish can be temporarily quarantined. The system will consist of the following materials. For a basin, I’m reusing this 700 liter food-grade pallet box. This 90 liter large concrete mixing tub will serve as a pre-filter and sedimentation tank to filter out the coarse dirt. There are also various small parts that will be used, like this wall bushing and a suitable sealant compound. With this and the pipes, the whole system will be connected to each other. Then we have this ball valve as well as High Temperature pipes and PVC pipes. These brushes will later be installed in the mixing tub. I didn’t want to build a filter with any sponges because they clog up immediately and have to be cleaned often. Therefore, I bought these brushes that are 15cm and 10cm in diameter, and we’ll see how we make them fit into the tub later. And then we have this rain barrel, which I want to utilize as a biofilter with Hel-x Biomedia. This basic pump that runs 2000 liters per hour will provide the necessary circulation. These are the main components at a glance and I'm looking forward to the assembly and the end result. The unique thing is that the filter system will work as a gravity system. The water surface in all three connected tanks is at the same height and the pump simply creates the circulation from one spot. This saves energy in contrast to pumped filter systems and the functionality has been proven. But one thing after the other, then the structure will be clear. First we’ll begin with the construction of the brush filter from the rectangular 90 liter mixing tub. The water should run straight through the tub and the floating particles should settle at the bottom and on the brushes. To achieve that affect, these 75 mm wall bushings are installed at the front and rear of the tub. These are installed with the included stainless steel screws. I put the flange piece on the outside and mark the opening. With a 10 mm hole, I can then easily use the jigsaw to cut it out. Use a file to clean up the cut edge. Then I insert a 75 mm pipe through the opening, and it fits. Now the flange piece can be placed in the center and I can drill the holes to fit exactly. Next, I roughen the surfaces with sandpaper, so that the sealant has good contact with the components. All the surfaces should be smoot . I wipe off the dust and then use Aquaforte’s Superstrong Fix & Seal. This can be easily applied with a silicone press. I apply an outer and inner ring on the surfaces of the wall bushing. I start with the flange from the inside and align it with two screws.

It's amazing what can be learned on UA-cam
Wow
I’m from the uk 🇬🇧 and this is” in my opinion the best home made filter ive seen made on UA-cam top quality job👍👍
Your product very sistematic..like from Malaysia..👍
thanks
Very good set up and well explained...without unnecessary waffle! I'm surprised you haven't had more views and likes...lots are missing out!
Nice set up
thanks
Loved that run down of the system you did at the end! Haven’t seen that brush filter idea! Love it!
Awesome & unique tanks for the kois love it wish I could keep one like that in my room.
I like how you link all the parts!
GREAT!!! THANKS...
welcome
这嗓音听着好舒服
thiết kế thông minh :), rất đáng học hỏi
Very nice build .
Probably more heavy duty than most ( expensive ) commercial filters too.
Welll done indeed !
Awesome video thanks 👍.very informative and beautiful healthy koi
Nice setup. Well done.
Great video enjoy the explained step-by-steps on your indoor pond & filter setup keep those video coming.
A very nice QT pond set up Carl. I have a main 1k pond but do not have a QT tank yet. I might have to build something similiar
What a nice voice.
this is one for the books
Awesome tutorial. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome ideas. Keep it coming.
Very nice pond setup
If you don't like getting jiggy wit it, hole saws are cheap and precise.
true thank you but also was too small for this size pipes
Love your koi video's
awesome & i love this video detail.
This is a wonderful idea thank you Mr. Carl. Great video as always. How are your Kois doing in the pond?
Nice little set up carl do for growing fry on.in the future .
Hey mate, cool work - 👍
Very nice good work
I do not recommend you use those slip on o-ring connectors. The weight of the water on those 3 inch tubes may well bring that down. If it is for a drain tube with minimal water rush its ok but not for pumped water especially in 3 inch caliber. You have rubber clamped connectors for that in order to maintain the flexibility of disassembling all. I did an aux tank with a 600 gallon intex pool and the filter was made with a 25 gallon trash bin with a vortex setup and worked a treat with just foam and a decanting vortex on bottom. I even used the intex pump with no filter wich is really low energy use.
Well explained, keep the good job
Thanks a lot!
do you have a build plan on this build? this is amazing
Another great video Carl can't wait to see the out come been watching all your videos are you going to try a different breed of fish or are you sticking with the Yambukie Ogans?
Those “wall bushings” are called bulkhead fittings in the US.
ok thanks 👍
Very well made video mate, I'm confused about the filter system though, you appear to have absolutely no mechanical filtration, just bio filtration, is that intended?
Is your UV light permanently active? how long does a lamp live, beautiful job
I made an indoor system with two 275 gal IBC totes, cut the tops off, pump from each of the totes to a 70 gal tank with expanded clay as my filter, then gravity feeds back to the two totes. I use cam lock and flex pipe between the 70 gal tank and the two totes and the totes already had ball valves. Added some air to each tank x 2 for back up. Just need a way to suck the crap solids off the bottom better, maybe just use my shop vac? The fish seem pretty happy, big blue tilapia that are 2 1/2 years old and up to a few lbs.
What kind of tank is that white tank? Where would I locate one?
Man i wanna try to copy this set up with ibc tote
Nice video but with timelapse it will be better
Nicely done, but overbuilding for a small tank!
I was wondering why he was making this much effort in filtration for a prob 200 gal tank. Then i saw kois, that checked out my doubt
All that for that little pond? Is there a 1,000 gallon indoor pond someplace?
😀👍🙏
Is the UV light good? What does it do for the water quality?
Use as sanitizer to kill germs from water..
How can I buy the fish from you
Where about are you location pls I where you get all pipe
hi, those are german plumbing pipes (HT Rohr)
I would hesitate calling this a koi tank as it is much too small to properly house koi and it could give novices to the koi hobby the wrong idea. It is however definitely a decent size for a quarantine tank with a relatively small water volume therefore keeping medication costs down compared to treating a large pond. My outdoor pond is approximately 22,200 litres (6,000 US gal) for summer and an overwintering pond indoors sized at 7,400 litres (2,000 US gal) and a 600 litre QT tank should the need arise to treat or medicate for any reason.
Nerozumím a podle videa zmatené.
Wouldn't putting a UV lamp in your bio chamber kill all your beneficial bacteria? 🤔🤔
yes, thats why i installed it in the pipe and not in the bio chamber itself, the light should not hit any bacteria on the helix
