Override function overrides the current setting until the next event, whereas Hold function will stay at the current through all the upcoming events. With Hold you would have to release it in order for the programming to continue operating.

Can somebody please show how to program the lux9600ts on heating the house without the day to day time I want to control it myself too much to understand for my 86yr old mother

Peace, this is probably the wrong thermostat for you and your mom. If you want to control it manually I would replace it with a simple non-programmable. If you would rather not then try setting your desired temperature and then pressing the hold button on the lower left corner of the screen. It will hold the desired temp until you turn off hold. The manual is available at luxproducts.com go to SUPPORT>Instruction Manuals. Hope this helps.

It doesn't matter what time I set it to. When I set a time for it to come on it will not be correct. It is 11 AM and the display read nite, which is also incorrectly spelled. It's night. Cheap piece of junk.

Actually "nite" a simplified version of night has been in use since 1904. Have you tried removing the battery, reinserting battery after 30 seconds and resetting the clock? Then programming an event. I have had this thermostat for several years and it only drifts a few minutes in a year. If rebooting doesn't solve the problem then the unit might be defective.
