Same old and new units, your video was helpful... My old unit only had a W. The new unit had a W1 and W2. Read instructions, were not clear, but it did say W2 was for a backup which I don't have, so used W1 and all is working.
That last bit about how to remove the front cover was what I was looking for. Thanks!
He was leaving out the steps that he felt was not important for us to see and that's the part I wanted to see.
Thats because he had no idea why the wires went where they went. Totally useless
Yeah. It looks like he hooked up W to W1, but not why he didn’t use W2, nor why he didn’t jump the two together, like RC and RH are from the factory.
I have a single R wire on my old one. Where do I put that?
At 4:01 he shows how to remove the unit's face plate. This is GOLD, as there's nothing in the owner's manual about that.
Joel, appreciate the feedback. As I recall that was one of the reasons for making the video.
@@cfldriven Well, I got mine installed & operating perfectly on the 1st try. Your video help immeasurably!
@@fobbitoperator3620 Glad to hear it helped you get it installed and working. We had ours programmed with 4 events per day, and with a tap of the screen we could override any setting. Thanks for commenting.
@@cfldriven Indeed!
Say, how do you keep yours from auto adjusting the temp. Mine keep going to 88 degrees by itself, & it's making my gaw'damn hair fall out. (figuratively)
Haven't been able to fix it...
@@fobbitoperator3620 The Hold function will keep a constant temp and ignore all programmed settings.
how you managed to loosen the screw on RH? O cant do it
to open this i used both hands. I made sure not to press the down as i applied pressure. Sure its not natural but once I pushed straight out it popped off. I put put my thumb on the middle tab and index fingers on outter tabs to apply pressure evenly and then pushed straight out and a bit up. The unit finally opped open.
Sorry I should have included that step. I finally did a video ua-cam.com/video/3ALiXl3LdXA/v-deo.html
Exactly what I am doing same old broken one and the new Lux thank you I wasn't sure how to put the wires in the new fangled clip place Thank you so much!
Good to hear this video is still relevant today. Thanks for watching.
@@cfldriven I just don't know if I should use the jumper with 1 red wire?? looking at the instructions #6 1 stage heating with two separate 24v transformers. IScematic #4 conventional (non-heat pump) 1 stage heating and 1 stage cooling. I dont know which scematic I should use? The jumper was up above the screw plate is that where it goes? I thank you in advance...This Gramma needs a new thermostat.
@@klashinsky9841 Don't live in that house any more, but as I recall I pretty much matched the wiring from what was on the old Lux. If your heating and cooling unit don't use a heat pump and are in one box with a separate condenser coil outside, your probably #4.
literally only reason I came here was to find out how to take the lux thermostat apart
I have 2 wires, red, white, do I need the jumper that pre installed?
+cfldriven does your thermostat make a buzzing sound when the display turns on because I have the same one as you and mine buzzes
Yes it does make a slight buzzing sound while lit.
I wanted to see how you removed the faceplate to open the unit. The Lux instruction manual doesn't say.
ua-cam.com/video/3ALiXl3LdXA/v-deo.html
So how do you keep the blue display on all the time? I like to be able to see the display without having to touch the screen every time. My unit is in a dark location. If the light doesn't have the option of staying on, I will have to return it. Thanks
Back in 2014 it would not stay on. I don't if the latest version is any different.
What is the screw spacing on the new Lux you just installed?
This was a few years back in previous home so I don't recall. The backplate does give you some wiggle room to go right or left.
How do you program each of the seven days, how do you set thermostat when on vacation ?
If you lock the screen can someone still change the temperature and hit hold? I basically want a stat that I set at 68 and cannot be changed until I enter the code in to change it. Brochure has me confused on what you are actually locking.
If you lock out the screen, someone else would need to know the code to unlock it before they can make any changes. Or if they knew how they could reset the thermostat and reprogram it.
Thanks for watching.
cfldriven thank you. I will finally have control of the thermostat
is there a way to over ride the password lock? i forgot mine
sean green I realize this an older post, but it might help anyway. First, you can get directions for this online. If you want to print them, each page from the manual is a full piece of printer paper (will end up with a small book). Anyway, it is easy to reset your thermostat if you have not done so already. You have to remove the front piece from the base plate like you would do to change the batteries. You then have to find and press the button labelled "HW RST" which is located on the circuit board.
Anybody know how to turn off the beep everytime I touch the screen?
Good question. Since the making of this video I have moved, but in looking over the manual there doesn't seem to be an option for turning off the sound.
Just installed this same model, my screen doesn't light up blue though, did you have to do anything special to get it to do that?
No it was the trend color of the time, what color are they now?
cfldriven oh there's no back light on mine at all, guessing it might be a defect then. I can still read it fine without it, just kind of a bummer.
Definitely comes in handy in a darken hallway. Is it the same exact model? Could it be a model that doesn't include a backlight? If it suppose to have one and it is not too much trouble to de-install, I would try to exchange.
It says it's a TX9600TSa, book with it says there's an LCD back light, though the box has no mention of it, and it looks exactly like the one in this video. Was thinking about an exchange, but since it's -10 degrees out right now, and I'm not terribly inclined to reinstall the old thermostat, I'll probably just leave it as is. If I find something else to be wrong with it I'll reconsider. Thanks for your input though, I appreciate it. :)
Once programmed we hardly ever touch it. Stay warm!
how do you open unit.
Here a video that I hope helps. ua-cam.com/video/3ALiXl3LdXA/v-deo.html
I think my unit is glued shut. lol It's new out of the box, and I can't get it open. I think once I get it installed it might be easier to open/close
this video is pointless due to the fact you don't show how to wire the new thermostat back up. Its fine that you labeled all the wires but when the old wiring doesnt use the same codes to what wires go where i still cant rewire my thermostat.
Wires not the same i have a heat pump with w o y c rc rh g wires in new thermostat do not have w i have w2 w1
The manual does show different hook ups for heat pump systems www.luxproducts.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/tx9600ts_manual_en.pdf and depending on your system you may either plug into w1 or w2. I suspect if you have a one stage heat and cool you would use W1.
I can't open the unit......I noticed that you didn't show how to open the unit.....WHY?
So, I read some comments and realized that you showed how to open it at the end of the video...clever...
@@ultramajik That way you have to watch the entire video. lol
Hope you found it useful and thanks for watching (to the end).
When you make a video pls do not leave out the most important, i did not see where you connected the wires in new unit
Sorry, you align the wires to the same connectors as in the old unit. That why it is important to label the wires before removing from old unit.
If you post videos is not a bad idea to FOCUS the camera.
You are so correct, unfortunately that particular could not focus that well. We hope the information came across. We have switched cameras so hopefully focus won't be an issue. Thank you for your input.
Really bad video. He edits the most important steps.
Sorry to hear the video was unhelpful. Thank you for commenting.
Not any more helpful than the instructions in the box. How do you actually attach those wires? Not useful video...
Sorry the video was not helpful. There are several set ups depending on system configuration and we could only show one. Best to follow the wiring from the previous unit or get an HVAC pro to configure it. Sorry I can't give a better answer.
Wow. Focus issues. No mention of c-wire (granted this vid is 8 years old) and may have helped sone individuals if the connection of the wires was included. Since this gentleman replied and appreciated the feedback, I cannot dislike his video. At least he took the feedback and reacted. That’s admirable.
Thank you for the feedback and sorry about the focus and SD video quality.
