Magestic. My son is onboard HMS PoW as it is coming in here. As a mother and as a local to the area, I am so very, very proud of our Royal Navy and ALL members of our armed forces, past and present. 🇬🇧
That is a size.....it would take some sinking to. It could obviously be damaged, but with all the water tight compartments etc, sinking would take a LOT.
They draft to much water and would be kicking water and mud all over, they are also very touchy on power so steering in small inlets is extremely hard and using small craft that draft less water that can steer better is a lot more efficient.
Modern tugs have 360 degree pods for precise steering, so being more maneuverable as well as redundancy in case of an engine failure. The last thing you'd want is a loss of power at the last moment and a ship that size drifting and getting grounded or damaged, if a tug fails the others can reposition to compensate.
It's still conducting sea trials. It won't have them for sone time and I hear we are rotating them..when one is in docks the other will be with the group
I think it's to do with lots of things, including what you mentioned,. Better efficiency, more economical, sails better through wind and water, that kind of thing. Also shaped to get the f/35 in the air faster, by utilising the wind directions 🤔
Part of it is to do with the diagonal angle of the intake/exhaust from the machinery room to the back of the islands, while also making the base of the islands as small as possible to maximise flight deck space for movement and aircraft storage.
Glad to see the UK navy being built back up. Wish the QE class carriers were nuclear but I understand the initial expense. Hope to see you pump out more carriers and a nuclear carrier before China. Keep it up guys.
We have no need for a nuclear carrier, as theirs no need for one when our escorts are conventional. And not just initial expensive is alot, it would cost alot more to keep a nuclear carrier running then a conventional one.
I think the lights were dimming because the Skipper stalled it and the battery is a bit flat, thats him turning the key to get it going again. She needs more choke Skipper.
Whats it carrying, wheat and food?. I am really curious about RN carriers, they seem to have nothing on them or American fighters?. How is this projecting power around the globe when it is plain to see this is pretty much just propaganda. I wish you wouldnt.
HMS Prince of Wales is named after the ship launched in 1765, so technically it's either named after George III or just the title Prince of Wales, Charles holds the title now but it'll eventually pass to Prince William Duke of Cambridge.
HMS Prince of Wales is not named after Charlie-boy, but is a traditional name for British warships (this is the eighth ship to be so named). Similarly, HMS Queen Elizabeth is not named after our present queen. Each of the ships carry five "battle honours" from previous ships of the same name, which include battleships which fought with distinction during the second world war. On the other hand, the only previous Princess of Wales was a merchantman taken up on government service during the napoleonic wars, which never fought in an action of any sort.
It's a waste. With due respect to the ship designers, but it's a useless ship. The ski jump ramp is useless. If it were to launch heavy aircrafts such as the Sukhois it would have been good but it has VTOL planes. Build a catapult instead. Planes like F 35 will prove useless in this role from aircraft carriers.
If it launched Sukhois instead they would be very limited in range and payload with a Ski-Jump, so much more useless. At least the F-35B can launch with a full fuel and weapons payload, as it's designed for short take offs.
Jaspal. You do realise that the Sukhoi SU33s, MIG29s & Chinese J15s can only takeoff with a very limited weapons/fuel load due to them not being STOVL, don't you? Then when their arrestor wires break, which they do on a regular basis, then nothing can land back on their decks.
And the ski jump was trialled, I think at RAE, and demonstrated that the Harrier could get off with a greater load with it than without it. Not exactly useless.

A big Thank You to your son and all the lads and lasses of our Royal Navy 🇬🇧
So proud of our lads and lassies that serve! God bless and stay safe. Thank you all for serving our wonderful country.
Is that you Boris?
Every day doubters are silenced bit by bit.
I love how Portsmouth and close up shots like this really put into perspective how absolutely humongous these carriers are.
Have a look at the old footage of HMS Vanguard when she got stuck, if you haven't already. The size of her compared to the buildings is incredible.
Big but not the biggest , queen Mary 2 nearly three times size fat Lizzie and faster also...probably a far better ship to be on in a storm also..

a.k.a. 'The Senior Service' over the Army and RAF.
I watch the three or four part special on PBS. It was all about the test trials for the F 35 and your new aircraft carrier
More info please. What's the title of the special? Thank you.
What a beauty!
How long will she be in Portsmouth? I'm going this weekend, would love to know
I love watch the ships come in. I wish I lived nearer
Note to Russia...this is the only time you should use a tug boat
Nyet tugboat is bart of russian battle group lol

Why big ships don’t anchor to the port by its own engine power instead of small support vessel help them to anchor?
They draft to much water and would be kicking water and mud all over, they are also very touchy on power so steering in small inlets is extremely hard and using small craft that draft less water that can steer better is a lot more efficient.
Even in the very large Puget Sound they use tug boats like here : ua-cam.com/video/F7EV6TRR7JA/v-deo.html

Was hoping to see at least one Aircraft on board. Are they all hidden below or on her sister
ship ?

It's SOP for Carriers to sail to and from their Home Port empty of Aircraft anyway - they usually Join/Depart the Ship when out at Sea.
@@paultanton4307 We've no F-35 and we're kidding ourselves. What's next ..Merlins as an excuse.

Hi watch you now at 20 hundred hour today
Don't laugh but these carriers have lots of sharp angles and flat surfaces. Is this to reduce the radar profile of this beast?

Yeah I think it is, it’s also one of the reasons why they have two islands

Not you again. The Royal Navy doesn't need Nuclear Powered Carriers. The power source is not really relevant. You Cretin.
Hope we beat China to the punch too. Would be amazing to see a UK flagged nuclear carrier.
We did not build nuclear because they would not be let into a lot of ports around the world to dock when needed to.

That's how Russian ships get around, either smoking heavily or followed by a tug incase it breaks Down
PoW is knackered anyway
All large ships use tug boats to get into narrow harbours. Hence the existence of tug boats.

And what's the reason there are no Luftwaffe around? Might it be because we already beat them?
Still bet there be lots weekend work from Monday fixing the donkey,,,,,,,,
Our Royal Navy needs about 20 more Aircraft Carriers.
How have you worked that out?
Weird comment. If you said 20 more destroyers and frigates I'd agree.
So long as you're paying for them. I agree 👍

Propaganda usually doesn't weigh 65,000 tons. The F 35s ordered by the RN have not all been delivered yet, hence the USAF complements.
