  • ATV10’s annual Deafness Appeal Telethon raises funds for the Nerve Deafness Foundation.
This aired on Saturday the 29th of August 1981
One of many hosts "Good Morning Australia" host Gordon Elliott supervising some of the star power at the time as donations came in
Swinburne Student Radio 3SW News Director Matthew Carden came on board to be interviewed by the late great Bruce Mansfield (former Anchor of ATV-0 Eyewitness News)
It marks 40 years since I first appeared on Television
It was an interview with the late great Bruce Mansfield during the Channel 10 Deafness Telethon on this day Saturday the 29th of August 1981
    I had just turned 18
Host Gordon Elliott with other stars of the day including the late Jono Coleman from "Wonder World" and Tina Bursill from "Skyways" got things rolling with a viewer request for an on screen pash.
It was a super day .. I remember sitting in the "Green Room" waiting to go on when the amazing Jana Wendt walked in and said hello as she was on her way to the stage to sing.
Later Newsman Rod McNeil gave me a tour of the Channel 10 Eyewitness Newsroom.
At the time I was truly just a nobody studying at Swinburne in Hawthorn but I also ran the Newsroom at the Student Radio Station 3SW so I decided to ring the Producers of the Telethon and see whether they'd like to learn about what we did there and they did .. so out I went on that Saturday afternoon and had a great time
I was lucky enough to join GTV Channel 9 the following year in March 1982 as a cadet Journalist. The rest has been history but this is where it started 📺
Completely self indulgent I know but a day I will never forget 😉
