This Opener from July 1998 introduced by veteran Anchor Jim Waley and including the news of the day and week together with the week's "Cover Story" .. "The Rise of Pauline Hanson" to be reported by Ross Coulthard.
Pauline Hanson's newly formed "One Nation" party had won 11 seats in the Queensland Election just a month earlier .. and this "Cover Story" aired 3 months before the October Federal Election of 1998 in an atmosphere of trepidation that she and the party would be a real threat to the Howard Government retaining power taking votes away from the traditional conservative base. Ironically though Hanson would loose her Federal seat of Oxley at that very election 12 weeks later but she managed to dent the Liberal majority as the Howard Government lost 14 seats .. Labor picking up 18 .. One Nation - NIL.

It'll never happen... These shows existed because of Kerry Packer. For all his faults, when he was in charge of Channel 9, he made sure that the news division was always well funded. He saw news as a fundamental part of the role of the media. When he died that was all lost. The Bulletin was also lost at his death.
Back when Channel 9 had some modicum of journalistic integrity......now sadly replaced by a bunch of second rate reporters laughing like school girls and prattling on about the latest cat videos, what Meghan Markle is up to, new wonder drugs for weight loss and avocado on a stick......🙄

I heard that this Sunday on the Nine Network w/Jim Waley was somewhat fashioned after Sunday Morning on CBS here in America w/the late Charles Kuralt-- is that true?

When 9 was a quality channel. Levels of childish immaturity has destroyed this kind of free to air TV.
