waking up early is essential for my selfcare too honestly. I feel best when I can do all the chores i struggle with (due to adhd) like eating proper meals, shower, do dishes in peace with lots of time to get distracted without feeling bad or stressed about it. I know it sounds counter intuitive that the biggest part of selfcare is chores but for me that is taking literal care of my physical self… which i struggle with a lot.. which makes me feel better mentally in the end since i can see these small accomplishments and feel good about them.
Honestly I think self care is such a personal thing, it can look different for everyone! Cleaning is definitely a self care thing for me because I feel so much more relaxed when my home is clean and tidy so I totally get that!
That's pretty awesome. In my self love journey, I have had to learn how to do things that seem simple for other people. I have to be specific and intentional with my chores from which ones I do to what time of day I do them. It's great that you found something that works for you.
I also have ADHD. I know getting up and doing things like this (small chores, too) would be so helpful for me, but I struggle SO much with getting out of bed. I just don’t want to do it even though I know getting up, turning my alarm off and not getting up and snoozing it and going back to bed, and not looking at my phone in bed would be so beneficial. I just … haven’t figured it out just yet.
I put on cuticle oil, without massaging it in, before I remove my polish. It works as a "buffer" between my nails and the remover. My nails are much happier now.
My most recent discovery for my cutical health is using Vaseline before removing my polish. I read and do skincare daily, and those are my most consistent things. Ido my makeup and paint my nails multiple times a week too. I think of those more as creative expression, but I think that's also how I care for me.
For anyone interested in cuticle remover, that one Kelli showed, Sally Hansen, is the most benign remover on the market as far as I know. I use it almost every single time I do a new manicure, upwards of a minute because it's so tame. All it does is remove cuticle, (the dead skin that comes out underneath the nail fold), it doesn't remove the nail fold or damage it. It doesn't burn. Nor does it really help you push the nail fold back. It doesn't give you a russian manicure. It wasn't presented here in a very good light but it's loads better than scraping at the nail roughly to remove the extra dead skin and it's very safe.
I agree, I don't find it very harsh and haven't had any issues from using it - for example if my polish was on for a while and I wasn't pushing the cuticles back (I'm not sure about everyone else but I find this difficult to do when my polish is holding strong).
I just started caring for my hands and nails in January, I'm 66 and I have to say my hands look better now then they did 20 years ago. I like Cuticle Buddy oil, I have one attached to my purse and on the table next to my recliner. Orly has a great Cuticle Therapy Cream it's in a 2 oz jar, I've had it at lease 6-8 months use it daily it's still 1/3 full, a little goes a long way. Great video, I need this type to remind me to do self care. Thank you Kelli. by the way I am up to about 300 polishes and I blame you for this hobby/obsession's. 😀
I bought those nail files a few years ago when you recommended them and love them. A key practice that has helped me is keeping a file, a hand lotion and a cuticle product at each place at home and at work where I spend the most time (plus my purse). This way they are always at the ready. I love the idea of keeping a lotion at each sink. Have been working to make rubber gloves a habit for dishes and cleaning. And finally, a sunscreen stick for the backs of your hands.
Jojoba oil is said to be the closest to our skin's natural oils so I think that's the big reason why cuticle oils that are predominantly jojoba oil (first ingredient) absorb so nicely. I haven't tried everything out there and I know there are some that are highly recommended, but my favourite cuticle oil is the one I make myself with mostly jojoba oil, a little argan oil (when I have some on hand), and some vitamin e, and I often add just a couple drops of rosemary essential oil cause I love the smell and it's supposed to be good for nails. Super easy to make and customize and a small bottle of jojoba oil will last a long time making your own cuticle oil.
Just got to add another comment. Totally agree with the nail care. I suffer from chronic severe pain due to my disability . Painting my nails actually distracts me from pain. It’s like a form of mindfulness for me xxxx
I suffer from depression and I'm always doing my nails I had acrylics for ten years until lockdown my poor natural nails😭they are still recovering two years later I'm glad it helps you with your pain sending healing vibesx
YESSS! Gimmie ALL the nail care routines! (I'm kinda obsessed with this video genre 😂) I've not even watched yet - just wanted to say yay because I got over exited 😂🤦♀️🥰
My go-to cuticle cream is the Burt Bee's lemon cuticle cream. It's so easy to carry around and the lemon scent puts me in a happy mood. Great video, Kelli Marissa! Good to see you again.
Thanks for the nail care routine! I love these videos so much. I recently bought a cuticle buddy and LOVE IT. It’s only been 3 days but my hands and cuticles are so hydrated. For self care I love a good candle, a cup of tea or hot cocoa and a nice fuzzy blanket. Sitting on the couch with those things is just such a nice treat. No cleaning, no work. Just hanging out with my cats
Watching and learning from your videos has become part of my self care routine. The saying about you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others has always been there for me. Watching your videos has given me some more ideas of how to take care of me! I just want to say Thank You!🤗 I will continue to watch and rewatch you.
I ended up making my own cuticle oil by filling up an empty essential oil roller bottle with jojoba oil and vitamin e. I made a few and keep them around the house, I love it!
I've tried the Cuccio Milk & Honey cuticle oil, but I find that it makes my cuticles drier and "addicted" to the cuticle oil, needing more and more to avoid drying out. I've since switched to just pure jojoba oil, and it works beautifully, absorbing quickly and moisturizing my cuticles for a long time without drying out worse afterwards.
I agree. I felt the same way about the Cuccio milk and honey. I'm much happier using pure jojoba oil. I buy a big bottle of jojoba oil and transfer some of it into a dropper bottle to use as cuticle oil.
It's much less expensive too. Some people find jojoba oil too runny, so you can also buy a small container of Vitamin E oil, and combine them to your preference. But I like jojoba by itself best.
KijinSeija: after the jojoba oil has soaked in, top with an occlusive like lanolin (brand name example Bag Balm) or petrolatum (brand name example Vaseline). It will seal in the oil so it lasts longer and works even better.
@@juliar332 okay that’s smart ! I’ve been searching around for some good cuticle oil/cuticle oil pen and there’s so many to choose from but this sounds good !
The Sol de Janiero Bum Bum Cream is such a nice cream. It is hard when some hand creams don't make your hands feel moisturized for very long. So good to have recommendations
@@laurazeinert3899 you're not the first to say it has a popcorn smell!! I got one in my Ipsy or Boxycharm subscription(I have both and can't remember which one it came in) and I haven't even opened it yet to try it even though I've had it for months and that's because of hearing /reading about the popcorn smell haha
I notice when my nails are filled in a almond or round shape they are healthier and don't break. I also stay away from gel manicures. The less chemicals and aggressive filing the healthier your nails will be.
I agree! My nails break so quickly in a square shape but almost never when they’re in an almond or round. Not sure if it’s because the corners catch on things or what but it’s a guaranteed nail breaker for me.
I know this is an older video, but I've watched this over and over along with some of your others - favorite base coats, top coats, etc. I just felt compelled to tell you that I started following your recommendations and my nails have never looked better and my nail polish lasts longer than it did before following your tips. I now love my nails (I used to be embarrassed of them), and save a ton of money skipping the nail salon (i would get extensions). The Cuccio Milk & Honey cuticle oil is AMAZING. I use it twice a day and it's lovely! Thank you so much for all you do. It really does help make a difference.
I buy shea butter, coconut oil, Jojoba oil and almond oil. I melt it together and it once it cools and hardens you can whip it into a smooth consistency and it's amazing for body and hands and cuticles! Also very inexpensive. I add my favourite smelling essential oils 😍
The Cetaphil body cream is a fabulous budget friendly night-time moisturiser. 👀✨ It’s barely got any scent, and makes my hands soft even after waking up. It’s an all around sensitive-skin friendly moisturiser for your whole body (even on your face if your skin is reeeally dry)
I use CeraVe moisturizing cream for pretty much everything. My skin is particular, and it never bothers me. Cuticle oil sits by work desk and I use it several times a day. I actually make my own.
I'm rocking my CeraVe as I speak! Love that stuff, very moisturizing/hydrating. I'm not diabetic, but I actually use their diabetic skin relief formula. I get 5 oz. bottles of jojoba oil at Trader Joe's for a very fair price and just load up my pens!
You make your own cuticle oil!?! Would you mind sharing your recipe? Making your own sounds so therapeutic somehow. Thanks in advance whether you share or not.
@@susanmiddlebrook5882 really all cuticle oil needs to have is jojoba oil, almond oil, and vitamin E oil so mixing those three things would be a perfect cuticle oil. I noticed that person didn't respond back to you so I hope this helps! 🥰
I love using my face products on my hands. I never apply it to my hands like it’s hand cream - you’re right, that would be expensive! But since I apply serums and creams with my hands, I just rub the excess into the back of my hands.
Came to comments to say this same thing. The advice should be that you use the excess on your hands especially the backs of hands. I’ve been doing this for a few years now and I think it’s made a huge difference for me. I’m now 46 years old and my hands look much younger than they did a few years ago with sunspots and skin texture. Face, neck, chest, and hands are the key areas that will make you look much older if not taken care of.
I got the Zoya Remove+ based on a previous video of yours, and I'm 99% sure it's the reason my nails have become so much healthier and less likely to peel (a problem I have always had). It's truly so good and worth it!!!
ordered the dermelect hand lotion because I trust your recommendation and boy, is it great! It really does melt into my skin and I don't feel greasy after putting it on. thank you!
I really enjoyed your tips for nail and cuticle care. I'm a nurse and I can relate with washing and sanitizing your hands. With the tips you provided I can give my hands and nails the proper care. Thank you so much.
I always swear by Lush's Lemony Flutter. It was also a miracle worker on a bad surgery scar for me (one that spans the length of my forearm). It made the skin feel not so tight and it helped fade the scar a little. Plus, it smells like lemon pez!
I just tried the Barrier Butter from Cuter Cuticles and it's GREAT. I was so tired of using up silly little pens - this is a thicker (but still oil-based, not opaque) creamy balm that moisturizes completely, absorbs well, and is spreadable enough to use on my knuckles and hands as well. I got it from the last PPU, it's marshmallow scented!
It does smell good. Actually, fantastic. I've used it for years and years. Soaks right in. From CND's website: "Solar oil is infused with jojoba oil and vitamin E." Exactly what Kelli said.
The Zoya polish remover is the absolute BEST!!! I was so glad I tried it after you had recommended it! Now I need to check out these dermelect products!
For me self care is definitely about making time for youself and doing small things that will make you feel good on the long run, for me that's stretching and doing physio for my runner's knee + skincare or more immediate satisfaction like nailcare + makeup It also means waking up early to have a cup of coffee or tea and watching my favorite UA-camrs 🥰 like KELLI 💌💌💌
So helpful to have this nail care step routine. I absolutely hate messing with my cuticles! I have had horrible experiences going to salons so I do my own manis/pedis. In all honesty, I think I have a bit of anxiety with cuticles now so I will start following your advice on after shower nail maintenance and applying more cuticle oil. I have to constantly use sanitizer and gloves due to work. I like to keep my nails shorter and makes it easier to not have to clip and just file. I did get a glass nail file as you’ve mentioned and it does help. Thanks again Kelli Marissa! Once again, your videos are appreciated more than you know…have a good one🌸
I lived in places with only showers for about 20 years and then this year moved to a house with a bath tub... lately my favorite self care activity is to light a bunch of candles, put some scented bath salts in the bath, set up my laptop next to it, and take a long hot bath! I got a nice bath tray as well so if I want to read a book it holds it without me having to. I get cold really easily so a hot bath both relaxes me and warms me up so I can sleep.
You did it again. I had to go and buy all of those Dermelect products since you raved about them so much.. and I grabbed their foot cream while I was at it. Can't say I've ever been disappointed by a Kelli recommendation. 🙃
The Cuccio cuticle remover is the best cuticle remover that I have ever tried. It even helps to remove slight staining on the nails and cuticle after you remove dark or staining polishes 😉♥️
I make notes to your Nail Polish 101 videos that make me feel like I am back in university! I really enjoy doing it to your videos :) I learn so much from you!
Thanks Kelli for the updated version of this. I’m definitely going to check out the new products you mentioned. Great video and thanks again for all you do!!
As someone with very dry skin, I always put cerave healing ointment and cotton gloves on my hands when I go to sleep. It's very helpful to prevent dryness. You wet your hands, put on cerave healing ointment while hands are wet, then put on cotton gloves. You can also use vanicream or aquaphor heaing ointment. I buy a big bottle of jojoba oil and then put some in a dropper bottle to use as cuticle oil. It works better at nourishing my cuticles/nails than other cuticle oils I've bought. I agree about moisturizing your hands and cuticles often, especially right after washing your hands. Also wearing gloves when doing dishes or cleaning is important for keeping your hands moisturized.
I also always put aquaphor healing ointment around my cuticles before removing my nail polish. It keeps the polish from staining your skin, and it helps prevent dryness of cuticles. I use aquaphor for this because it's cheaper than cerave, but I prefer the ingredients in cerave for using on my hands at night.
I agree 100%, Julia R. Wearing gloves when doing dishes or cleaning is a big one. Also when gardening. I constantly have to remind myself to wear gloves when digging in the dirt. It's terrible for you hands and nails.
@@juliar332 If you ever find that Cerave alone isn't cutting it, you could also try putting on Cerave and then putting Aquaphor on top. I know this is more expensive, but I get eczema and it helps. The Cerave has ingredients that sink into your skin, and then the Aquaphor (or just pure Vaseline, though I prefer Aquaphor) acts as a barrier to keep those ingredients and your body's natural oils in your skin.
Kelli you should try Udderly Smooth!!! The hand cream saved my cracked hands during the winter time and it is unlike anything I’ve ever used on my hands before. It doesn’t smell amazing but I think the lack of added fragrance is great. It absorbs super quickly and doesn’t feel super greasy but it’s not a thin, watery cream either. I don’t need to keep applying it every few hours either which is awesome! It’s also pretty inexpensive which is surprising.
Fantastic advice!! Also if you're someone like me who needs to be mindful of breakouts/acne on your face but have never had such an issue on your hands, then I definitely have different products for both areas. I sometimes use a really intensely moisturising body cream during the winter time (my fave one at the moment that's both fragrance free and has occlusives that I like is the La Roche Posay Lipikar Balm AP+ Moisturizer), and whatever is left I just rub onto my hands as well; works great. 👍
I also love my glass nail fine. I do recommend running it through the dishwasher every now and then. I also love the nail polish remover called Mineral Fusion.
The lotion I love and have been using for a few years is the Vasoline Intensive Care for hands and nails. It keeps my hands soft and moisturized & is fairly inexpensive. I have been in love with the cuticle oil From Bliss Kiss! Been using it for over a year and it's been doing wonders, far less breaks especially during the cold winter months.
My hairdresser does this year round. Her hands are always wet from her work, shampooing her clients and other tasks, and although she wears gloves for color treatments, there are still a lot of chemicals she's exposed to on her hands and nails. Her hands look beautiful! (I wish I could stand wearing cotton gloves overnight, but I just can't!)
This was very informative, thank you Kelli for sharing this with us. My self care routine is, I like to wake up very early in the morning myself. I don't have to leave for work til 5:45-6:00 am and I wake up at 3:00-3:15. I take my time getting ready, doing my hair and makeup, then I get my breakfast and lunch ready. Then, I usually get a cup of coffee and watch UA-cam videos or I make a video to put up on my channel or I do my nails while watching UA-cam. People think that I am crazy getting up so early, but that is my alone and quiet time to relax before my hectic day starts. I am a healthcare worker and I really need to rest my body as much as I can, especially having severe fibromyalgia and bad arthritis all over. I am definitely going to try some of those strengtheners out. Thanks again Kelli and you look beautiful as always. Are you going to be doing any more makeup tutorials??? I really like those.
I understand what you’re saying about the face verses hand product, and while I haven’t seen the tiktok, advice I got years ago is if you put product on the back of your hand to put on your face, rub in the leftovers on the backs of your hands, especially sunscreen. The woman showed me her two hands and the one she had used product on more over the last 30 years had noticeably less sun spots (hence the recommendation to spread the love haha)
Totally agree with using leftovers on the hands, but I wouldn't dream of using my face products on my hands on purpose haha! I think there are a lot more products nowadays that are great for hands, even anti-aging stuff!
My favorite cuticle oil is the Cuticle Buddy, and each color does different things, I have the pink and black and the 3 summer ones, obsessed with them
I actually love using face products on my hands, as long as they’re affordable, or if I end up not liking to use them on my face but don’t want to toss them. Natural Moisturizing Factors from The Ordinary is my current favorite hand cream, and it’s about $8 for 3.3oz. I’m also using up a moisturizing toner and a peptide serum on my hands, and they make more of a difference than anything else I’ve ever put on my hands! I feel like actual hand and body moisturizers help with trans-epidermal water loss, but they don’t really hydrate very well or add moisture if that makes sense. But even if the skin on my hands does well with face products, my nails themselves definitely have different needs. Thanks for sharing your winter routine!
This is a great idea! I do the same, but if a product is one that for some reason won't work well on my hands, I use it on my feet at bedtime. I feel so much better about trying new products if I have this little "backup plan" to still make use of them, even if not for the original, intended purpose.
Since I have been working from home for the last 19 months, self care for me is getting outside and being in the sun and air. If I don't remind myself to get outside, I would literally be indoors from Sunday night till Saturday morning when I go out and run my errands.
Thank you for sharing this, Kelli! I have a Gemanicure glass file that is a little stick like an orangewood stick. I use it to file up my sidewalls, cuz I have CRAZY raggedy sidewalls. I use a Holo Taco regular glass file and will NEVER go back to sandpaper. I use the cuticle remover when I do my weekly full manicure, using a metal pusher to collect the dead skin (GENTLY!). I do it every time because my cuticles are about as raggedy as my sidewalls...I am just 'blessed' with a lot of finger skin I guess. I agree that one should be very careful when using cuticle remover, but some of us have to use it more regularly. I was denting the heck out of my nail plates trying to push back the more tenacious cuticles, and the remover allows me to stay nice and gentle on the nails. I really want to try the Zoya remover. I plan to order some next time I order polish from them. Question to everyone out there--do you use a dedicated dehydrator product, or just isopropyl alcohol? I use iso to dehydrate and seem to get good results, but I wonder if it would be worth trying a dehydrator. Like, what's different about dehydrator vs. iso?
Hi! I have tried both but don't notice a big difference, most dehydrator products just have a nice scent added to the main ingredient, which is alcohol. I hope that helps :)
marycarnival: The reason your cuticles have extra "finger skin" is *because* you push (your cuticles) back". Dermatologists will often say one of the top three things they would NEVER do is remove or push back cuticles. What we have been "taught" are cuticles is actually wrong. Look up "What’s New in Nail Anatomy?" By Doug Schoon, April 15, 2019. The cuticle is the adhesive that holds our proximal nail fold which is living skin (what we all THINK is the cuticle) to our nail bed in order to protect our fingers from bacteria, viruses, contaminants from entering our bodies and causing infection. They are there for a reason. When you push back your proximal nail fold, you are causing trauma to living tissue which causes it to become inflamed and forces it to try to grow back which often it is harder skin because it's been traumatized. It is completely unnecessary to push back the proximal nail fold. It's a waste of time, money, and is damaging to that living tissue. Our bodies are designed they way they are for a reason.
I also think it's helpful to remember climate. I got to the point of sleeping with heavy cream and cotton gloves on, and I would still wake up with crusty cuticles. But I live in Chicago, and we finally got spring last night - I woke up to 55% humidity in my apartment (in winter it's often 10%) and beautiful cuticles. So if this stuff isn't working, maybe get a hygrometer and a humidifier. You won't need it every night (that's what the hygrometer is for - it measures humidity) but it makes a difference on those rough days.
loved this video!! it's good you made a post-covid version :) I've been using gel polishes and doing Russian manicure for several years until i recently rediscovered the bliss kiss blog and the importance of leaving you nail fold be, just push it back. and yeah, just like you said, once i started moisturizing regularly and just gently pushing the cuticle back, i don't even need remover, not really. and it was a really quick shift from dehydrated skin with hangnails to normal fingers. two weeks maybe

So agree about the bathroom...always happens. lol. Thank you for updating your nail care 101 routine. Oh yes earlier and relax, slowly waking up is very important!
If anyone else is interested in the Cuccio oil but wanted a brush applicator, C Care Oil on Amazon is exactly the same product, ingredients are the same etc. but it comes with a brush and a dropper. I oil my nails about 5x a day lol Don’t listen to those people who say you only need to do it when you wash your hands! Listen to Kelli Marissa, do it while you’re working etc. 💞
Thank you, this reminded me that I needed to oil my cuticles. Maniology's Joyful Jasmine oil is good and I also use Essie's apricot nail & cuticle oil.
I use the Vaseline hand and nail one mainly for summer because it soaks in fast and leaves my hands silky, I just got the Sol De Janeiro hand cream in collab with Lights Lacquer and I love it so far for the cold weather, thicker but absorbs just as nicely and doesn't feel greasy or sticky.
The absolute best cuticle product in my opinion is Qtica. It's a very dense balm and you need the tiniest amount. I've just thrown the very end of my first jar away, and I've had that for at least fifteen years, if not twenty. I don't use it everyday, but I know that when I'm having problems with dryness, that's the one I go for. I also use it over cold sores to help them heal (a tiny bit on a cotton bud, no double dipping).
I loved that overnight Qtica cream but of my gosh my squeeze tube was SO HARD to get anything out of that it felt like a workout every time, I havent repurchased haha! Was it a fluke or do you have the same experience??
ROFL! "Go to the bathroom." Yes, yes, yes! I always tell folks, "Go to the bathroom before you start because the easiest way to pooch a manicure is heading there with nails that aren't fully dry." I'm glad to pass on how easy it is to do a good manicure when folks ask (most don't know about clean-up brushes) and that's the first step. I've used OPI Nail Envy for years (both clear and "Hawaiian Orchid"). I think I'll give Duri Rejuvacote a try. I've noticed, and friends have commented, that my nails grow very quickly. It'll be interesting to see if the Nail Envy has been the reason.
Hi Kelli! I find for me that clipping my nails is better because even with the glass nail file, my index and middle fingers peel like crazy, but since clipping them instead, that has stopped! It took me about 40 years to figure that out!! LMAO!! Thanks for the great videos!!
Glock Girl, if your nails are peeling, you need to work on repairing the structure of the nailplate. Also, there is a difference between glass and crystal nail files. Kelli does not mention that her Germanikure file is crystal which is a much higher quality than glass. Use a nail oil like jojoba oil with vitamin E or Bliss Kiss every time after you wash your hands and every night before you go to bed for two months. Your nails will be healthier than ever.
Great timing, was just looking up cuticle oils to replenish my stash around the house as the weather cools off. Everywhere I look (desk, night stand, purse, bathroom drawer) my oil pens are empty!
If you don't want to buy dehydrator, I found that pure acetone (not polish remover) or isopropyl alcohol (or a mix of both) does the job just as well! Thanks for the tips Kelli 💗
Christi Camba: Acetone is often used as a nail polish remover, and it does have some dehydrating properties. However, it is a harsh chemical. Exposure to acetone can dehydrate the nail plate, proximal nail fold, cuticles and the surrounding skin. Nails can become dry and brittle, and cuticles can become dry, flaky, red and irritated. For these reasons, it is not recommended to use acetone as a nail dehydrator-especially on any regular basis. If you don't have a nail dehydrator product, it’s easy to make your own at home with a few simple ingredients. Mix together one part white vinegar and two parts rubbing alcohol. You can store this in a small bottle and label it homemade nail dehydrator and include the recipe for future reference. Use a cotton ball or pad to apply the solution and wipe it over your clean, dry nails.
I’ve been wondering how you keep your nails looking so healthy! Thank you for this. And I’m glad I’m not the only one who hates bath & body works lotion! It feels sticky and filmy to me. Ew! I love that bum bum cream 😍
Have some of the products you mentioned. Agree about the Zoya polish remover and glass files. Would never go back to emery boards. My favorite cuticle oil is from Bliss Kiss. They have pens and now larger easy to refill larger pens. Sales in January and July!
Zoya Remove+ is the only remover I'll use. There is no comparison in how well-conditioned it leaves your nails. Quick and easy removal, even with glitter. I love it so much I've gifted it to every polish-loving friend I have. It's seriously that good. LOL
I absolutely love the Orly cuticle oil! Also, I will never go without the NailsInc Back to Life base coat. You can wear that as a base coat or over naked nails. Definitely a holy grail for me.
Now that I’ve been into Polish pickup for a few months I’m starting to narrow down which ones are my favorites and for the cuticle cream, I LOVE the Cuter Cuticles Barrier Butter. It’s sort of an oil but it’s solid and a tiny bit goes a long way. And the hand cream from Paradox Polish is amazing. Thick and rich but soaks in quickly. I have it in a pineapple scent and it’s just 🤤.
I really needed this video! I have a really bad cuticle picking habit and it's gotten way worse with my hands getting more dry due to the cold weather, so I've been looking for some good products, and you delivered! So thank you, queen Kelli
I use face cream and sun screen on my hands daily, because my dermatologist recommended it for me to combat wrinkles in the hands. It really isn’t that much more expensive.
Another plus for the Zoya remover: it smells really good! My husband hates the smell most of nail polish/remover/etc. but he has never complained about Zoya.
Thank you for sharing all your expertise in nails and nail care.. I really appreciate that. My question is about nail polish removers. I've decided to not use Acetone anymore. It dries out my nails and fingertips too much. Are any of the polishes that you showcase removed with non acetone remover?? If so which brands? I'm using Ella and Mila at the moment. Just wondering and thank you! Stephanie, December 2022..
My new favorite nail polish remover is ELLA+MILA Soy Nail Polish Remover. It’s acetone free, really moisturizing, and doesn’t smell chemically like others. The bottle is tiny for the price, but a little bit goes a long way. Not sure how well nail polish would stick right after using it though, since it is pretty oily.
Thanks for putting this together, Kelly! I like to use the GoldBond diabetic healing lotion as my once a day application. And, I have the BIG bottle of the Cuccio! ❤️👍🏻💅🏻
I just ordered most of the products you recommended; my nails are in terrible shape!! I’m hoping this will help me grow long nails; if it does, I’ll comment soon!! Thank you for the good advice:)
I really like the spray on lavender lotion from Kiss My Face, especially at work! It's moisturizing, and smells great! Since it's a spray on, it's also light and doesn't leave my hands feeling sticky. I keep a can of it on my desk at work, which is perfect because I work with my hands a lot and my cuticles get destroyed on a day to day basis.
For those of who are on a budget or who don't want to buy a dehydrator for whatever reason, pure acetone or isopropyl/rubbing alcohol is a good alternative. I've personally found that my nail polish lasts waaaay longer using acetone before my base coats and my nails hate most base coats so this comes recommended highly!
Felicity Boulianne: Acetone is often used as a nail polish remover, and it does have some dehydrating properties.
@@violetviolet888 I've been using it for around four years now and haven't seen any negative side effects. Then again, I've got very sweaty hands and use nail oil on a regular basis. I've been using acetone because rubbing alcohol doesn't help and it was suggested by a trusted nail tech (Nail Career Education). Your alternative does sound better for sensitive skin though. Also, I'm unsure about acetone being harsh since it has such low exposure time. The reason it smells so bad is because of it's inability to stay in liquid form, it just immediately evaporates. Just because acetone dissolves paint doesn't (edit: necessarily) mean it's strong, it just means it's chemistry is suited to putting it back into solution. Water can dissolve most things (given varying time frames) but it's not seen as bad. You know?

I wake up early as well! I didnt realize it was self care. I was just doing it so I didnt feel rushed and can mosey my way to life lol. And long shower for me is the hair wash, shave, exfoliate and moisturize. Ive been trying to find a better routine for my feet. They are SO cracked 🙁
Waking up early really does make such a difference! I love the feeling of the rest of the day when I'm not scrambling to get everything done so I can have time for myself haha. And oh man, my feet are dry AF, I really need to start using these products on them lol
In the winter, I apply plain old Vaseline to my feet, heels, toenails, etc and wear socks to bed. It keeps my feet warm on cold nights and when I did this last winter, instead of using any other products or lotions, my feet were the softest they've ever been and looked so healthy. All the problem areas just went away. And you don't need to smear on tons of product, which might feel gross; just enough to be able to rub it in and create a barrier to air.
One other interesting fact about glass nail files they help stop layer splits by help to seal the keratin layers, I am in Australia and unfortunately many of the products you used are not available here but your video was still very informative. We are also short changed on the colour collections of those brands that we can get here like OPI Sally Hansen and Sinful Colours, I always use the Sally Hansen Complete Care 7 in 1 Nail Treatment as it is a really good Ridge filler and I unfortunately have age related ridges. Love your videos
waking up early is essential for my selfcare too honestly.
You’ve described me!
This! Totally makes sense for me as well!
I’m growing my nails back after some bad breaks, and I was just thinking “I wish Kelli would post a nail care routine!”
I read your mind!! Haha!
My thing is having a ton of hangnails from a bunch of field work, but exact same! I was about to go through my saved videos and find the original one!
You’re awesome!! This was great, and actually very similar to what I’ve been doing this fall :)
I really like using either A&D ointment or the Nivea creme in the blue jar for hangnails :)
I avoid any petroleum based products for good health and due to sensitive skin.I’m enjoying vegan, cruelty free products. 🌱🌿
I totally agree. I can leave it on forever with no damage. It softens the dead skin in the nail so it is removable. 👍
I agree, I don't find it very harsh and haven't had any issues from using it - for example if my polish was on for a while and I wasn't pushing the cuticles back (I'm not sure about everyone else but I find this difficult to do when my polish is holding strong).
Hard agree. Shes just peddling over priced uncessary items. Sure if you have the money blow it but why when you font need all that.
Which nail file did she recommend?
@@debbiemarsh4491 GERmanikure - they have a website or Amazon.
Love your DIY
Just got to add another comment. Totally agree with the nail care. I suffer from chronic severe pain due to my disability . Painting my nails actually distracts me from pain. It’s like a form of mindfulness for me xxxx
I suffer from depression and I'm always doing my nails I had acrylics for ten years until lockdown my poor natural nails😭they are still recovering two years later I'm glad it helps you with your pain sending healing vibesx
YESSS! Gimmie ALL the nail care routines! (I'm kinda obsessed with this video genre 😂)
I've not even watched yet - just wanted to say yay because I got over exited 😂🤦♀️🥰
Haha! Well I hope you enjoy it!!
My go-to cuticle cream is the Burt Bee's lemon cuticle cream. It's so easy to carry around and the lemon scent puts me in a happy mood. Great video, Kelli Marissa! Good to see you again.
I just finished my first one and repurchased another one!
So smart to use a roller bottle!!
I’m wearing Cirque Spellbound today and I’m in love with it !
When I’m feeling down , Self care is very important tfs
Ooh I love that color!!
The Sol de Janiero Bum Bum Cream is such a nice cream. It is hard when some hand creams don't make your hands feel moisturized for very long. So good to have recommendations
I really love it - and it smells so good too!
I am on my 2nd jar of the Sol de Janeiro coco cabana cream! It feels like cool velvet. And what I think a perfect day at the beach should smell like.
This lotion smells really bad on me, like caramel popcorn lol. The blue container scent.
@@laurazeinert3899 oh no 😢. It's not cheap
My nails are the same way! When I had more square shaped nails, they broke all the time.

Oh yay that makes me so happy to hear! 🥰🥰
I buy shea butter, coconut oil, Jojoba oil and almond oil. I melt it together and it once it cools and hardens you can whip it into a smooth consistency and it's amazing for body and hands and cuticles! Also very inexpensive. I add my favourite smelling essential oils 😍
Ooh that sounds AMAZING!!
For a quick absorbing, after hand washing, I love using Gloves in a Bottle. Lasts on your hands but feels like nothing! Love it!
Ooh I haven't tried that one but I'll check it out!
You crack me up - but yes, going to the bathroom before starting any of it is pretty much the most accurately helpful advice there is!!!!!!!!!!! 😆
I always regret it if I forget to take a bathroom trip before nails haha!!
Yes CeraVe is amazing! I also love their handcream, it keeps my hands soft for literally 24 hours!
I love the cerave moistutizing cream! It's one of the only moisturizers that doesn't irritate my super sensitive skin.
The most waited video. Really helpful video
Yay glad you enjoyed it!!
CND Solar Oil is my go to cuticle oil. I love the pens and keep them everywhere!!
Ooh I haven't tried that one yet!
And it smells so good!😍
It does smell good. Actually, fantastic. I've used it for years and years. Soaks right in. From CND's website: "Solar oil is infused with jojoba oil and vitamin E." Exactly what Kelli said.
Same! I just found them in my local Marshalls for $3.99!! I bought 2, love 'em

The Zoya polish remover is the absolute BEST!!! I was so glad I tried it after you had recommended it! Now I need to check out these dermelect products!
For me self care is definitely about making time for youself and doing small things that will make you feel good on the long run, for me that's stretching and doing physio for my runner's knee + skincare or more immediate satisfaction like nailcare + makeup
It also means waking up early to have a cup of coffee or tea and watching my favorite UA-camrs 🥰 like KELLI 💌💌💌
🥺 I'm so honored to be a part of your self care routine!! ❤️
Ooh I LOVE that! I've been trying to scrub the hair dye stains out of my tub so I can have a relaxing bath haha!
I have been using Ella +Mila nail polish remover and it’s so good, hydrating, removes nail polish very well and your nails are not stained.
Oh yay I'm so happy to hear you find them helpful!!
Thanks for sharing your recommendation!!
@@KelliMarissa No problem Kelli! 😊

Mary Kay's "extr emollient night cream for hands", aka "orange goo". Nurses LOVE this!
I use cotton gloves with moisturiser especially in Winter, I find it works best if you keep them on overnight,.
That's really smart!
I don't have to leave for work til
5:45-6:00 am and I wake up at 3:00-3:15.

Sarah King, or just apply sunscreen to your hands and exposed skin daily.

Great point! The humidity makes such a huge difference for me, in the summer here in NJ my nails are always looking great haha!
loved this video!! it's good you made a post-covid version :) I've been using gel polishes and doing Russian manicure for several years until i recently rediscovered the bliss kiss blog and the importance of leaving you nail fold be, just push it back. and yeah, just like you said, once i started moisturizing regularly and just gently pushing the cuticle back, i don't even need remover, not really. and it was a really quick shift from dehydrated skin with hangnails to normal fingers. two weeks maybe
Mary Mary: You don't even have to push the proximal nail fold back. It is *completely unnecessary* to push back the proximal nail fold. It's a waste of time, money, and is damaging to that living tissue.
Just stumbled on ur channel...love it Love all things mani/pedi...I subscribed
Love the crescent moon necklace you're wearing in this video!
So agree about the bathroom...always happens. lol. Thank you for updating your nail care 101 routine. Oh yes earlier and relax, slowly waking up is very important!
It's been SO nice so far, I feel like I have way more time to myself!!
@@KelliMarissa I so much agree!
Ooh I used to love the Essie cuticle oil!!
Essie’s apricot oil smells Devine! I love that stuff!
Kelli, thank you so much for this. I have learned so much from you.
Cuticle is the dry skin on your nail place the skin around your nails is the proximal nail fold
I’m so excited for this video!!
Yay hope you enjoy it!!
I love gold bond moisturizer. Many nurses use that. Cerve cleanser has ceramides which are extremely hydrating. Both products are so cost effective
Same! I have them everywhere and they are all running on E!😭
If you don't want to buy dehydrator, I found that pure acetone (not polish remover) or isopropyl alcohol (or a mix of both) does the job just as well!
Thanks for the tips Kelli 💗
Yesss great tip!! ❤️
Yessss Bliss Kiss!!!!
ashes of Roses, thanks for the tip about their sales.
this great !love your channel
I definitely agree about the OPI Nail Envy it grows my nails but doesn’t really strengthen them.
Okay I'm glad I'm not the only one who's had that experience haha! I thought it was in my head!
Im a big fan of the OPI hand and cuticle cream and the OPI cuticle oil. I also enjoy the Lanolips hand lotions theyre incredibly hydrating!
I am shocked I haven't used Orly cuticle oil haha! I need to get on that!
@@KelliMarissa It smells amazing too!!
Barrel Butter is my favorite, I’ve gone through so many!
I really needed this video! I have a really bad cuticle picking habit and it's gotten way worse with my hands getting more dry due to the cold weather, so I've been looking for some good products, and you delivered! So thank you, queen Kelli
Ughhh me too!!! Got over my nail biting habit, but never got over the cuticle picking
My favorite hand moisturizer is straight coconut oil. Takes about 2 minutes to absorb and it works great :). No smell at all either.
Ooh that's a great idea!
Cuccio is the best!!!
Gold bond is soo great, I don’t have diabetes but the lotions are so nice and thick

You know?
Love cuticle oil! No brand has really worked, so I make my own with just jojoba oil and vitamin e. My nails are long and strong
ASMR Digits: Try the cuticle oil from Bliss Kiss, it's the best and she works with a nail expert who is a scientist and understands nail anatomy and composition. Learn more: "What’s New in Nail Anatomy?" By Doug Schoon, April 15, 2019.
@@violetviolet888 oh, cool, I can try that one as well 😁
I wake up early as well!
Thank you so much for doing an update! ♥️ I bought waaaaaay too many things based upon your recommendations 😅
Ahh yay I hope they help 😄😄😄
One other interesting fact about glass nail files they help stop layer splits by help to seal the keratin layers, I am in Australia and unfortunately many of the products you used are not available here but your video was still very informative. We are also short changed on the colour collections of those brands that we can get here like OPI Sally Hansen and Sinful Colours, I always use the Sally Hansen Complete Care 7 in 1 Nail Treatment as it is a really good Ridge filler and I unfortunately have age related ridges. Love your videos
