  • ''I'm so stiff, I can't even touch my toes!'' - we hear this a lot. Watch this tutorial on how to forward fold properly to slowly increase your flexibility, while protecting your back and body. This will help beginners and people new to yoga but also people that have been practising a while and want to get more of an understanding of some of the basics behind their yoga practice and why we might have a micro bend in the knees in order to stretch more efficiently, to begin with. The main focus is to show you how to forward fold for beginners.

There's nothing wrong with not being able to touch your toes when stretching into a fold. What can be problematic though is if you're trying to force the movement incorrectly. That won't make you more flexible or prevent any injuries!

After about 2 years of powerlifting/bulking, I am finally ready to resume my BJJ journey. My muscles are incredibly tight and immobile, and this channel has been massively helpful in helping me regain my mobility. Can't wait to play inverted guard as a 100kg+ buff dude

@@yogaforbjj I had wondered, tried and failed for many many years, extremely lucky that I did not hurt myself in the process, to practice this yoga pose.
My dream finally came true after several months of practicing and following your instructions from this video diligently
Please accept my deepest gratitude from the bottom of my heart for revealing your trade secret. Without your generosity, I'd still be at ground zero as of this writing.
      Best regards and God bless.

and its great that someone like you brings yoga to a complete new audience. i would never try something called "yoga" as a 21 year one boy and im sure im not alone, because i would imagine my mom doing some cool down exercises, but thats simply not true. switched like 90% of weight training beside bjj for yoga, feels so much better :)

When you correct him in seated forward fold, when you bring him back having gone a little to far that is,: what was it about his posture that told you he went to far into still with stomach to thigh contact? I hope my question makes sense thankyou.

I started going to martial arts school in Feb.22 and had some good progress becoming mobile and be able to stretch. But being tall as I am, the forward fold is way harder to learn than a split because my lower back was (still is) very stiff.

I have searched for the answer on why my psoas muscles always cramp after dowing forward folds without any luck. It is extra noticeable when lying on my back directly after a fold session. Do you have any idea why this happens?

    • @yogaforbjj
      @yogaforbjj  3 роки тому

Try and do pigeon pose each side for a few breaths after folding to counter it. It is good to counter and open the front if you have spent a long time folding.

Is it bad to start doing this every day? My goal is to achieve butterfly stretch... will this help for that? What is bad about overly stretched hamstrings? Like what other muscles must I strengthen or loosen to compensate for stretched loose hamstrings? Please help me

    • @yogaforbjj

Just make sure you aren't only doing that and work other areas too. Strengthen your hamstrings too by activating them someways 👍

      Hi Uttej
It sounds like you need to bend your knees more and ease off slightly.
Try following the tips until you are comfortable in the pose.
Then you can start to stretch 😎

this is just like any other "forward bending guide" that shows you how to do it by showing already flexible people to demonstrate. They always fail to show that actual stiff people can't even get to the starting position where you touch your thighs to your belly. this tells me they don't know a thing about how to help inflexible people.
