    Nice blue. I have been using chicken breast and thigs for a number of years, works well year round. We do us latex gloves on all our bait, not just for safety but for scent. I am a old coyote trapper and both are apex predators, figured it can't hurt. Soon as it cools down again will try squid.

      Makes sense, might try gloves sometime, see if it makes a difference on fish.

    I have cought some nice ones on chicken. My waters are full of mussels, so I think it resembles them. I prefer live bluegill because they are fun to catch, and eat.

    BTW, Back in the late 70's, before catfishing was cool lol, I fished over to Santee Cooper and the locals turned me on to beef liver. It worked great there so I thought I had found a secret bait that would make my homies jealous. Wrong, fished with it for near a year and I could not get my local cats to touch it. No idea why.

      Never tried beef liver either. Just chicken liver

      @@JonBoatRiverCats That was the first, and only, time I had heard of it. Back then it worked good on SC but I don't even remember the turtles liking it up here. lol

      Yeah its strange how that works. I guess fish in different waters just like different stuff. I'm sure theres some baits that work just about anywhere but still.

    Real life has been nuts for a while and my time and luck getting bait has sucked. As a consequence I have had to use chicken far more than I would like but I can't complain too much, it does catch Cats and bigger Cats will take it. In fact, the only time it has let me down I doubt that any other bait would have prevented the skunk.
    Shrimp not so much, Channels will take it but I have yet to get a Blue or Flat on it.
    I have yet to try squid.

      If they would let some serious water through the spillway there would be shad and perch stacked up. Normally i can get bait. Seems like it's out of bait now, but there are plenty of bait options out there that work that I'm willing to use.

    I've been fishing with chicken my whole life and never worried about sterilization just washed my hands in the water!!! That's why everyone gets sick so easily they don't have a immune system because they are too worried about sterilizing everything!!! People have gotten soft!!!!

    • @JonBoatRiverCats
      @JonBoatRiverCats  2 роки тому

      Very true, but salmonella kills, and doesn't discriminate. No one ever got sick from fresh bait like cut bait. Promise you I'm not soft. I work around asbestos, mold, pcp and phosgene gas. I don't wear gloves, eye protection, hard hats, or respirators, when I work. Nor do I wear gloves or use fish grips for handling fish. I've drank from rivers, and ponds, swam in the nastiest water you can think of. As far from immune suppressed, or soft, as they come. But I agree you need germs to keep your antibodies up, but I'm also not in the mood for hospitalization or dying yet.
