Brilliant. Love this. I was looking for a flexible way of tracking attendance for the players who I coach (game time relates in part to attendance at training). This is a very clear, very easy to follow instruction. I would only suggest that for those not familiar with entering a 'code' that it be made clear where there is a space between parts of an entry and where there is not. Often times the kerning (space between letters) can be a bit misleading. However, that said, thank you very much. I appreciate the effort you have put in to making this available and do easy to follow. Good pacing too.
I have 6 classes that I am working with during a youth group. I have setup my form so I can select what class I want to take attendance for - Class 1 - Class 6. After I select that class, it takes me to another form section that lists my student names. The issue that I am having is trying to capture the attendance in my sheet - time area of your video is 17:16 - using the =iferror(if(find(B$1, Copy!$B2),"x")). On the copy tab of the sheet I have the columns of Timestamp, Classes, Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, Class 4, Class 5, Class 6. Then the rows data contains - 1/26/19 16:35:27, Class 3,"empty cell", "empty cell", "Alexander Williams, Andrew Heam, Seth Scott, Ethan Spinola", "empty cell", "empty cell", "empty cell". I can't seem to get the if/find/copy formula to work properly. I think I would need to look at the Classes column and find that class - "Class 3" - then search for that name within that cell under the Class 3 column. If you can provide any help on this it would be much appreciated.
Worked great!! Had an issue Working on my smart phone because the auto-complete put spaces after the names.Took me an hour to figure that out but after that everything else went fine!
There are three different semesters running in degree course in 10 different subjects like computer , physics, chemistry , zoology geography etc and attendance is taken after every 1 hour . so how will solve this problem .
I am looking to do something like this for my class, but it is a different type of class. I need to keep track of students signing in and out from my room, but any student from the school could potentially walk in. I have ti right now that I can get all of the "Sign-in" information to work and it works well for me, but the problem I have is when the students need to sign out of the room and go back to their other class. We need to keep track of the time they are in our room, but I don't know how to do it. In essence, what I want is: - when students sign in(using the form), they are added to a list in a sheet. - Then I want them to be able to put in their same name or student number, when they are signing out and it should match them up with their original sign-in. Any thoughts?
This is what I'm looking for to track attendance in my sign language club. One additional function I'm looking for is to monitor consecutive days of attendance. If students are late/absent for 3 consecutive sessions, they are dismissed. I would like to provide a warning after 2 consecutive sessions. Can anyone direct me to formulas I can look at to help me out? Thanks.
I am having a problem with the "iferror" command. It is only showing that the first student has attended every session (incorrectly) and shows no other attendance for any other students. Any suggestions?
Thank you Jeremy for this useful tutorial! Followed it closely and managed to create what I need! But at the very final part, what I require is a little different from your tutorial. I am trying to use this attendance sheet to track a tuition class. At the start of every month, each student has to pay fees for 4 lessons. Attending each lesson will mean that an amount is deducted off, and if they did not attend the class, the credit is brought over to the following month. Is there a formula to track this credit system?
1. Attendance is a part of life, whether or not you grade for it directly or not. 2. Even if you don't use this for school tracking, there are plenty of other areas in which you might be able to use this as well.
Mr. Physical Education Also, life doesn't award what you say you can do, it rewards what you go out and take initiative to get done. Why limit the grades to knowledge? We should also be grading motivation and drive.
John Meyer Attendance is a part of life. I agree, but we are supposed to grade according to the standards of our content and no standards that I have ever seen in my 20 years of teaching have ever mentioned attendance. Attendance is an expectation not a standard to be graded. Debashis Biswas I never said that life awards you on what you say you can do. You made that up! School is about showing what you know and can do. Just like I said before. Attendance has nothing to do with what you know and can do.
I followed the video very carefully and have to say it was very good and we used it lastnight for the first time for tracking attendance in our choir. My only one problem is , every person that is bottom of the list , even though they attended, the spreadsheet is putting them down as zero attendance, what have I done wrong???
tried that, it didn't work unfortunately, the members name is coming up in the form responses and in the copy sheet but no X value being returned in the Transpose even though the cell has the formula copied into it. I do get an 'X' in the next cell even though its not a column with a student against it.
I initially had that problem. then I realized I had spaces at the end of my names on the attendance page. I did mine on my phone and auto complete put spaces after my names so the formula wouldn't read the names.

AMAZING! I needed this coding. Thank you so so so much

Anyone 2020?
Marvellous!! Thanks a lot. Great stuff!!
Hello, Just set this up and it works great. But, How would I add people to the attendance list?

When I type in the =index formula, all I get is #ERROR....how can that be...? But if I change the comma to a semicolon, it appears to work...???
That's where I'm straggling and I have never done it before... Still trying to put formula but somehow doesn't work
terima kasih banyak video nya sangat bermanfaat

I have open enrollment (students begin/end course at their own pace); will I need to add new students manually?
hi , is it possible to shift the position of the time stamp information from row to be on the column (B3) and the student names to be on the row (A2)?
Thank you Jeremy for this useful sheet tutorial
how can I compute the number of absent days ?

I, too, would love an answer to this question!
Great tutorial! Very easy to follow. I’m wondering though, is there a away to indicate if the student is late but not absent?
Thank you man! Gratitude!

I figured out my error! I put the second $ in the wrong place. I typed "(B$1,Copy!B$2)" not "(B$1,Copy!$B2)".
Hi, can someone can help me on how would I go about tracking morning, afternoon and evening session?
How would I enter attendance prior to today's date?
Excellent tutorial!
My roster in always increasing...Would anyone know how to add a students?

=IFERROR(IF(FIND(B$1,COPY!$B3),"X")) HI ! I TRYPED IN THE FORMULA, IT SEEMS "COPY" DOESN'T WORK i DON'T KNOW WHY NOTHING APPEARS.
I know this is almost a year ago, but "Copy" is a sheet name. if your sheet name is different, you'll need to put that in instead.
Hi. Can anybody share working (without formula errors) Sheet? Thanks.
Thanks! Great stuff.
YOu shouldn't grade on whether a student is in class or not. They get their grade based on what they know or are able to do.
Participation is a factor.
1. Attendance is a part of life, whether or not you grade for it directly or not.
2. Even if you don't use this for school tracking, there are plenty of other areas in which you might be able to use this as well.

Is there sound in this video?
yes
very nice

you have to copy the formulas down into more cells.
tried that, it didn't work unfortunately, the members name is coming up in the form responses and in the copy sheet but no X value being returned in the Transpose even though the cell has the formula copied into it. thank you so much, that worked. Life saver!
I was so hype for this until he started to talk about coding. whywhywhywhywhy.
